I’ve been in menopause almost 5 years now. No periods at all.....until this weekend . Dr google is scaring me, and I just need to find out if any peas have had this happen, and nothing serious wrong. When it first came on, I thought it might have been a UTI, but it’s been a fairly steady/light flow along with cramps. My family Dr. Moved over the holidays (closed almost 2 weeks for the move) and today was supposed to be the first day for calls and bookings and I couldn’t get through all day. I’m going to keep trying to get in as soon as I can...but just need some reassurance that it can happen.

I had this experience years after menopause. Went thru the test protocol and everything fine. Dr said ovulation isn't exact shutoff. She likened it to that residual popcorn kernel that pops long after the others. It happens but good to rule anything else out. Hang in there!

I had it happen about 2 years after my final period, it lasted about 3 days I think. I had biopsies of about 5 areas and apart from confirming I have some smallish fibroids I was all clear.

I imagine it could be several things that are no big deal. But make sure you Get checked. I know several women who were diagnosed with breast cancer after they experienced postmenopausal bleeding. My mom was one of them. Lumpectomy and radiation and done.

When my dr and I discussed menopause, she said that any bleeding after menopause is a problem.

Many years post menopausal I had a full blown regular cycle for me. I never had much in the way of pms, and my cycles were 5 days. My ob\gyn was able to see me quickly and kind of likened it to my body sneezing out the last whatever. Everything came back fine and it hasn't happened again.

When my dr and I discussed menopause, she said that any bleeding after menopause is a problem. I don't think it's a problem. I think it's something to be investigated as a potential problem. There are a lot of reasons that this can happen and not all of them are bad.

Same thing happened to me two months ago, no periods for 18 months so officially through menopause based on the definition, then suddenly sore boobs and a relatively normal 4 day period. WTF??
As it was like a lighter normal cycle I decided to wait and see what happens, if it happens again I'll see my doctor. I figured it was just a last gasp from my hormones/ovaries.
In general after menopause if you have ongoing spotting or irregular bleeding or bleeding after sex, you should get it checked out, but mine was none of those, just a one off almost 'normal' period.

It was not a period. If you have been post-menopausal for years, then it is post-menopausal bleeding.
Now, the vast majority of cases of bleeding in menopause are completely benign. But it is the one way that cancer of the uterus shows itself. Therefore, all bleeding after menopause requires a doctor visit.

You need to have it checked out asap. It’s probably nothing but any period after one year of menapause should be checked out.

Yes, this happened to me about 18 months after I hit menopause. I went to the dr and she did a uterine biopsy (which was not a big deal at all), and everything was fine. Just a last hiccup. Make an appt. just to make sure.

Wow! This just happened/is happening to me. On Christmas morning I started spotting, despite my last period being almost 5 years ago, and by Boxing Day evening I was cramping and bleeding just like I used to. On the 27th I was able to get into the surgery and while it wasn’t physically possible to perform a smear that day, an examination found my uterus wasn’t enlarged and my blood tests came back first thing the next morning completely normal (including the CA125) but significantly they didn’t confirm menopause - all my hormone levels were actually within the normal, pre-menopause range and my thyroid function was also normal. I’ve just had my smear test today, after the bleeding had lasted for about 7 days, and should get the results back within the week. I also still need to have an ultrasound scan but apparently it’s looking likely now that I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome?! I’m still feeling quite shell-shocked (but very relieved and grateful) as my GP had previously been happy to assume I’d gone through menopause after 12 months of no periods (I’m in my late 40’s) and saw no need to confirm this with blood tests at the time. PCOS has never been suggested to me before but I have had 2 large ovarian cysts (that I know of) in the past - the first one resolved itself (it burst - very painful) and the second was surgically removed, then happily was found to be benign. It’s not known when or if I will have another period but we have completed our family so my fertility isn’t a concern. And as long as my smear and scan results are clear no further treatment will required - just routine smears etc like anyone else - I still have menopause to look forward to now though. I hope sharing this gives you some encouragement until you can get some qualified and concrete answers about what’s happening for you - I know how scared I was. Sending hugs and wishing you the very best of luck!

Our vicar had uterine cancer last year, and the only symptom was post-menopausal bleeding that she put down to a period, years after she had stopped menstruating. She stood up and did a PSA to all the congregations of our 2 churches, to tell us that we should not ignore post-menopausal bleeding. Yes, it's likely to be only your body's last hurrah, but it's always best to get checked out.

I just wish I was in menopause... im in my 40s!!! I dont need the hassle... when will it ever end??? I'm 51 and I am beginning to think it will NEVER EVER happen. So sick of it.. and it just gets worse.. You THINK you are done.. go a few months and get a period (and it is like a freaking war zone that you have never dealt with before).. then you go even longer and bam another period (but this time it's light spotting for 10 days). Then 10 months.. you think you are FINALLY in the clear.. BUT HELL NO.. another freaking period. I swear it's a joke.

She was ONE week from going a full year without periods and being officially in menopause. She was 52. Not sure what's going on now but she was so pissed. I'm 48 and in perimenopause. I was going about 6-7 weeks between periods and then late this summer I'm back to 4 weeks every time. WTH?

Don't we just love our bodies?
I had a period about 7 years after menopause and no periods. I was on my first trip to Europe and was very tense about everything. I was traveling with 4 sisters and all the arrangements had fallen on me. I chalked it up to nerves, though I was very annoyed with having to go to a store and seek hygiene items in a foreign language. I don't think I even discussed it with a physician when I got home. Lucky for me, it was not anything else.
I'm sorry for those of you still dealing with this. I did menopause at age 40. For me it was like turning off a faucet. No perimenopause time, just "boom--case over"--confirmed by my dr.

Sorry I haven't been around!
A period after 5 years of no periods by natural causes (ie no IUD or other medication preventing menses) must be worked up. This requires an endometrial biopsy and ultrasound to assess the uterus at a bare minimum. I hope the OP has already made an appointment to begin the process.

Thank you for this post and my apologies for bringing it forward, but this is me today. I will call my OB-GYN tomorrow and see if I can get in to see her sooner rather than later (I do see her annually, but my next appointment with her not until September).

I remember you from SJ, all those years ago. It's funny you've resurrected this post, because I can see I commented at the time. Since then I've had the same thing, been U/Sed, hysteroscopied and biopsied, and they found womb cancer. I had the cramping, but for me, after the tiny bleed settled down, it was more a strange pinky brown discharge which didn't go away. I had surgery last week to remove everything. I don't want to scare you, because the chances of that are not as high as the unpopped popcorn kernel analogy, but please go and get checked. Let us know what they say? Hugs ETA: I'm going to take the Old Thread label off, because this hasn't been bumped by a spammer, but by a legit Pea.

So I see no problem with you removing it I asked in the pinned thread and got a very sensible answer - it's for both spam AND for legitimately reopened old threads, so that if we've already read the thread we can go straight to the end if we want to. Or, if you're like me and have forgotten what everyone said, you can still read it all again!
