Admittedly I am a bit cranky today, but this has been driving me nuts for a while. Can someone please tell me when all the crazy hand gesturing during YouTube videos became a "thing"? It's horrible. It is definitely "filler", and they may think it's helpful, but...no. It's not. It's like word salad that everyone hates so much...except with hand gestures.
I notice a LOT of YouTubers approach their videos this way lately and I am not understanding why they do it. It is such a distraction to see hands moving all over the place as the scrapper is talking that I just can't watch the video. It's like Vanna White or a Price is Right model trying to video a scrapbook video with lots of attempts at flowy (sometimes not so graceful) hand motions. Please stop.
<I am now done ranting>

Drives me crazy and I'm not cranky today . The other thing I've noticed with some of them is constantly repeating the same thing over and over. It's like they feel they have to stretch a 15min video into 30mins for some reason. Just get to the point!

And I totally agree about the repetitition. I don't mind watching a 25-30 minute video if it's all content and a little bit of backstory but, but when it's filled with so much unnecessary chatter I lose interest real quick and move on.

There’s also one I’ve been watching live that has some weird constant noise in the background that pretty high pitched, and I have to turn the sound down.

I agree on excessive hand gestures.
While we're ranting, what's up with having 6 or 7 ads? I have no problem with watching one or two ads at the beginning of the video or one at the end. But 6 or 7? I unsubscribed to Nicole Jones and I started watching another YouTuber's video recently, can't remember who it was, and she also had several ads. I've also seen people mention in the comments that there are more ads than usual and people jump all over them. How many are too many ads for you? Or does it not bother you at all?

And some of them are kind of long...3+ minutes! I know in the grand scheme of life 3 minutes is not long but most of the videos I put on are less than 15 minutes.

Excessive hand gestures are sign of nervous YouTuber. Every rhetoric professional or PR expert would confirm that. It's actually getting to a point now that I rarely watch scrapping videos anymore. I have a few that I still really enjoy, but they don't have hand gestures, ads or any filler commentary. Just the process video and end result, which is really always been why I watch.

I can't stand the hand gestures - I've seen videos in the past where they literally talk and show their hands for 10-15 minutes before they even start scrapping. That makes me unsub right away. If there's something I really want to see I'll fast forward right to the part I'm interested in.
Also, I've noticed Kristina Werner now chats to the camera for a few minutes before starting a card, and that annoys me, too, lol. I guess she's just trying to build her brand (herself).
Lately I've been watching Silhouette Cameo How-To videos, and it's super annoying how much extra chatter they make. I just want to see how to use the autoblade, how long does it take a person to get to the point???

I can't say I've come across the hand gesture thing whose channel are you referring to if you don't mind sharing.
In regards to the commercials she probably has a monetized channel and I don't think they have any control over how many commercials appear.
Personally I find her really over rated and she always has big plans but doesn't seem to follow thru.

Filming of the hands is not new. I've been complaining about it for quite a few years now. I don't know why they think I want their whole life story about crafting, I just want to see what they are making. For what ever reason, they think we're here to listen to them talk. It's beyond annoying. Too many ads, and I quit them completely. I like crafty videos, but the more I unsubscribe, the more shit I actually get done.

There are a few YTers who I actually like to watch for their chatting either because of their humor or funny stories but I get that not everyone is into that. I think part of the reason I like them is I get lonely and it feels like I'm bonding over some of the things they share and I reply to if that makes sense.
I used to upload a lot of content on to my channel but haven't since Spencer became ill. I have to say it's a lot of work making videos and I think in hindsight I was probably chattered more than peas would like by this thread LOL. I think I chat because I'm nervous and sometimes I'm sharing opinions, thoughts or asking opinions about something.
It's difficult finding that sweet spot of what will make viewers happy because some enjoy process videos, others don't like voice overs, some enjoy hauls others hate them but I totally get what everyone is saying.

I wave at the camera when I start and end my videos. I think that’s the extent of my hand waving though on recorded videos. I may do more hand waving type movements when I’m live. That tends to be more pointing and asking those chatting for their opinion. I try to get my videos started right away.
I find 6-7 ads to be excessive. I don’t know all the ad protocol yet as my channel isn’t large enough for ads. My plan is one at the beginning and one at the end if that’s possible. I would hope my viewers would be ok with that when the time comes.

There are not enough words for me to describe how much I hate all the unnecessary hand movements and unnecessary chatter in crafting videos The excess hand movements cause me to unsubscribe and close out of the video too. It’s distracting and annoying. I have no idea why so many have to do that goofy finger wave at the beginning, point down below at the subscribe button and some of the other stuff they do. I’m also not that interested in the crafters personal life. I’m there for the content, the ideas and the techniques. Not to make friends with them. I usually have 10-15 minutes to watch a video. I don’t want to waste my time with mindless chatter. When I give presentations at work I make notes of what I need to say and I don’t use filler words. I’ve even had a co-worker count my ummms because they are distracting. Ugh, excessive hand movements, ummms and chatter are my youtube pet peeves

Agree with the excessive chatter. No, stop it!
I don't want to wait until 5 minutes into the video for you to get to the point of it. I don't even want to wait 2 minutes!
If they chatter too much, I just skip ahead.

There was a Youtuber (forgot who) who would start her videos with chatter with the camera on her in her pretty white room, and then switch the view to her desk for the scrapping part. I appreciated that I didn't have to look at her hands or an empty desk while she was talking
(ETA: it was Suse Fish)

I recently uploaded more of a "chatty" video to my channel participating in a hop. And when I watched the playback I did notice that there were parts where my hands were flapping around a bit. I am a person who talks with their hands. And when there isn't anything in my video to keep my hands busy, well I guess they just went ahead and did their own thing. So I apologise if by some chance mine is one of the flappy hands videos you've watched. But, this was the first time that I've really filmed anything like this and it wasn't something that I was aware of to be aware of. Much like my first few videos where I "ummed" a lot during voiceovers without realising I was doing it. It's something I'm more conscious of now which will hopefully help me to minimise it in future

Ad blockers! No. More. Ads. None. It is glorious!
And the scrappers I watch don't do hand gestures. But I have a few friends who talk with their hands. To each their own 😊

Most of the time, I watch with the volume down. The word umm irritates me and I hear it a lot. I really can’t listen to anyone for more than a few minutes anyway, but I appreciate the content and time etc people put into it.

The only thing, other than ads, that I find really annoying in videos is when the youtuber has super long artificial nails and can't pick things up properly. For some reason that drives me crazy. I get wanting long pretty nails, but keep them short enough that you can actually do what you are trying to show us. I'm not sure any scrappy youtubers I've seen have them, but some other Youtubers do and I can't even watch them.

hat I find really annoying in videos is when the youtuber has super long artificial nails and can't pick things up properly. Iiiiccckkkkkk. I just started to watch a card making video last night and she could hardly pick up her stamp block with her claws. Her red, red claws. She dropped paper and scrabbled for it. I turned it off, thought it was gross...
