Happy New Year! I hope everyone is happy and healthy and looking forward to whatever adventures this new year brings.
I'm trying to resist going into stores for after Christmas sales. I did succumb to buying tissue paper and one package of gift tags for 75% off.
I've stopped into Walmart a couple of times waiting for Christmas markdowns to go to 90% off. I'd like to pick up a few heavy duty extension cords and a couple of jumbo containers of ornaments for one of the kid's tree for their room.
Two trips to Salvation Army so far. Nothing on the first trip. On the second trip, I picked up a pair of gym pants and a gym shirt for one of the kids. And, a planter for myself and a Pop figure of Linda, the mom, from Bob's Burgers. I was hoping some people were purging Christmas decor. There was not a single piece of it in the store.
Someone was definitely doing some major cleaning in their home. There were four complete sets of dishes, and they were priced so cheaply. There is only one set left.
Have you been out doing after Christmas shopping?

I found 2 more berwick/boopie glasses. I think my collection is over 2 hundred of these. If anybody wants to sell theirs, pm me. I will pay $1 a glass plus shipping.
I also bought fake plants at Walmart. A little ribbon and now they are in the bathroom.
Robes on sale.
Wrapping paper.

I went into my favorite thrift shop the other day to drop off two bags of toddler things, and walked out with 3 pairs of jeans for me & 2 shirts for my ds for a whopping $5.50! They were having a half price sale.
I could not pass it up, even with trying to keep shopping to a minimum in January.

I will be picking this up tomorrow. I found it on Craigslist. I plan to use it for my 8 1/2 x 11” card stock storage, my larger steel rule dies, and whatever else that will be handy to have in there. It is 6’ tall and will take up less room than my current paper storage. I am going to need to do a bit of cleanup on it, possibly just painting the exterior and wiping down the shelves. I have a perfect spot for it in my current project room. It won’t be there long, but at least it will help make the room look well organized when I list the house. I have a real thing for cubbies and have a few really nice antique ones in my office downstairs. This one looks pretty generic, so a coat of fresh white paint on the exterior should be all it needs. Each shelf is 3” high which is more than I need per color, but it will make retrieval of a sheet of paper much easier. I like that I can label the front of each shelf with the type and thickness of some of my white card stock. I have a lot of card stock that I acquired when a local paper manufacturer closed down. PLurker, you have to promise us that you'll show us what your lamp looks like "dressed." Excellent find! Lexica, that's an awesome storage unit.

I stopped into Salvation Army on the way home from work today. It was crowded with people but I still found some treasures to take home with me. For my sister: 4 bone china cat figurines, and a vintage bone china, English creamer and matching open sugar bowl. A rooster planter, and a vintage USA ceramic vase in burgundy glaze. A glass eggnog bottle from a dairy farm about 45 minutes from my house. A fun fact, the owners of the dairy farm sometimes go to my Saturday night auction place, they are really nice people. The weirdest, yet oddly cool thing I got is something I plan to sell to help pay for my thrifting excursions. It's this: www.ebay.com/itm/Trina-Turk-128-NWT-Fox-Pin-Brooch-Faux-Topax-Gold-Tone-Amber-Teal-NIB/202659666359?hash=item2f2f7519b7:g:xVIAAOSwEzJbDG8d I paid $7.99 for it. There is an estate sale the next town over this weekend. If I go I'll let you know if they had anything good. Enjoy your weekend!

PLurker I woud use fringe and turner her into a fancy old time burlesque showgirl. Great minds. I was thinking of beaded fringe skirt as an option. With pre-strung beaded fringe. Can you imagine actually stringing enough beads... My mind wanders with possibilities. Of colors, finding and/or making a shade and on and on. Maybe iridescent beads. Or gold to match her top embellishment. Hmm... As I do little else today having pre-declared it a snow day. But as with scrapbooking & many creative outlets, the thinking part always takes the longest. Right?!

PLurker, I like your idea of possibly using beaded fringe. The pictures with the lace layers makes her look more like a debutante. I think with her eyes and pose something more sultry could be good.

She probably had some sort of sultry look to her, I think thekamp in the photo was redone to make her look respectable.

I thought so too until I found multiple photos of different dolls in same lace skirt, same number of rows and all. I think it is original to doll but wouldn't have been my first choice for her look if I was the maker/designer.

I found this little needlepoint turtle. About 5 by 7 I would guess. I love his shell and his little face. ETA Do you think the little sections of the shell were to show or practice different stitches? I think I've heard of that being a thing.

PLurker, your turtle looks like it's crewel, and I can't say that I've seen any showing "stitch samples" unlike floss embroidery. It is definitely possible though. It's really well done and he's very cute.

Yes, crewel. I remember projects like that turtle from the 70's. We never finished one though.

I went to Salvation Army with one of the kids yesterday, it was fun. They weren't actively looking for anything. They were face timing a new friend quietly (not in a disruptive way, no one else was around) and I was periodically asked to show stuff to the friend that they could see. The friend likes to go thrift and antiquing.
I got the thumbs up on a pair of vintage art pottery swans, which I did buy. I'm trying to figure out who made them, they're unmarked. They are in a green matte finish.
I also bought a small glass bud vase. The bottom is bullicante, and reminds you of a paperweight.
The three of us had a good time, lol.

We use lots of stitches on every canvas. It makes it so much more fun.

Ooh super fun thread! I love thrifting. We are lucky enough to now have a Goodwill Outlet store (you pay by weight!). We went there last weekend and got 18 items for a total of $15!

Went to Savers Monday. That was kind of a bust. Maybe I’ll go again in a bit. Found shirts for my doxie. That’s about it.

theroadlesstraveledp, Do you have a Saver's members card? It earns you rewards, and is just like any other store savings card. It is NOT a charge card. It just tracks spending. If you give your email address they will let you know when sales are going to be happening. And, what you might like the best, people with the card usually get to shop the day before the rest of the public. So, if you had the card, you could have shopped Sunday and got first dibs at the sale prices. Welcome aboard, shmoopea. I'm dying to go to one of the Goodwill stores where you pay by weight. Feed my daydreams, please tell me what you got. lol I sometimes watch YouTube videos with resellers and have noticed that not only do some pay different prices per pound, one even pays a set amount for items with an electrical plug. Can you fill us in on how yours is?

My sister, the knickknack queen, just sent me a text with photos of what she bought at Goodwill today. She bought:
- 12 Hallmark ornaments in boxes for .99 cents each
- 17 metal, two-sided snowflakes for $3.99. They look like Pottery Barn.
- vase for .99 cents
- platter for .99 cents
- lastly, a glass plate that looks like it was hand blown for .99 cents
She gets some of the most amazing things for the best prices. Much better selection and prices than the one we had in town.
I swear she can ferret out a treasure anywhere.
