We turn it on when the house gets below 69. But we'll also turn on the air if inside gets warmer than 72 or 73. During this time of year, we've been known to run the air during the day, and then switch the heat on at night.

66 is too cold for me. If you set it to come on at 69 you'd be good. I try to keep my house at 70 degrees F all year round.
ETA: I do the same Devilty Doggity, heat in the early am or late evening and a/c during the middle of the day. I'm all for comfort.

We're not cold weather peeps per say (Southern CA) but it can still get into the 30's overnight/early morning come December into February. However, we still don't run our heater. It's old and inefficient so we get by with space heaters. Not sure what will happen this winter though as I have a job now where I need to be up early so the wood floors downstairs will make it quite chilly. I need to get a good pair of slippers at least. Our floorplan is pretty open downstairs so even if we ran the heat, it would all mostly go upstairs and the downstairs would be still be chilly.

I caved this morning just to take the chill off. It was 31 here last night and 60 in the house, so I finally gave in. It's off now and will be until it's 64 in the house. We burn wood for the winter, but don't need heat all day yet, so we're on oil right now and I can see the $ signs going up the chimney.

I wait, too. My SO turned on the heat just to get the chill off yesterday and I thought I was going to die it got so hot! LOL! We may be holding off another week or so here before it gets turned on. Supposed to be in the 60's and maybe to 70 this weekend. It is about 67 in the house now. Feels fine to me.

The house was 63 this morning and it was in the high 30s/low 40s outside. I caved and turned on the fireplace but then clicked the heat on. It warned the house to 67 and that was comfortable for me. I always say I'll wait until November for heat and May for AC, but Mother Nature seldom cares about my home heating and cooling quirks.

I don't have a rule about what temperature or time of year but I've put it on for an occasional hour a couple of mornings/evenings so far. Not bad for me - we've had a very mild autumn so far in the south of England!

I don't have a specific temperature or a specific date. I like when I don't have to turn the heat on, but I feel that my home is a place where I should be comfortable. After all, if not there . . . where??

Brand new furnace installed today and my heat has been on for precisely 50 minutes. After a miserable winter last year with a failing furnace, I will not be skimping on the heat this year.

I really do try to wait until October, but I had to turn it on one day in Sep. I turned it up a bit yesterday, since the high was 45. I got tired of being cold. We live in NO Maine.

I just caved today. It was 65 in the house, with the dryer running and I was home all day doing work on the computer. My hands were just too cold.
But it it was hard to do mentally. I just had the AC on last week. I was really hoping for a week or two where I didn't have to pay to change the temp of the house.

Some people just aren't bothered by the cold. And some homes keep the cold out/retain their heat much better than others. We have a great combo of both happening here, so we can do without heat for a long time and everyone is just fine with it. We look forward to the 60s here. We love the 60s. There's no way we'd want the heat on in the 60s. Different people prefer different things. I'd be thrilled to have temps between 55 and 75 all year long.

Ours kicked on the other morning at 64 degrees. Apparently I didn't turn it off last spring.
It has been a warm fall so far, so it only kicked on once

Temperature in the house dropped below 58° last week, so I turned it on.

I really can't handle it being warmer than about 64, maybe 65 in the house. We've had the heat on two evenings so far.. Last night it was 64 and quite windy out, so the house was drafty. A couple of weeks ago it was about 62-63 in here and felt a bit chilly. I usually prefer it under 63 for sleeping at night. Honestly, if it's above 60, I wake up at night totally sweaty.

I don't like it really warm but my sister is always cold so it's a constant battle in the winter. She turns the heat up I turn it down. We don't talk about it we just do it. Every once in a while I'll get annoyed and remind her how much oil costs and tell her to stop turning the heat and put a sweater on instead. I like it around 60 she likes 68 to 70. When it's really cold out she tries for 72.

Ours is set at 68. It comes on when it gets to 67. I don't believe in being unnecessarily uncomfortable in my own home. I don't need to prove anything to anybody.

Yesterday after spending 3 hours outside in 34 degree weather with a wind-chill at ds's football game. I came home and couldn't warm up so I looked at out thermostat and it was 63 (yes ours is old enough to still be Fahrenheit too.) So I broke down and turned it on.

I live in central NH and we've only had a few nights of 30's and our house is EXTREMELY well insulated. We typically don't have the heat come on until November. We've had a couple of years where it's even been December. This week will be a good test though - because it's supposed to be in the 40s at night and then only highs in the 50s. We have the heat turned way down right now - to like 50 or something crazy. When it starts being cold all the time, we'll bump it to 65 or 66.

Our thermostats is the same, you need to snip a wire or something. I'm not brave enough so ours is in Fahrenheit still too. Our mornings have been 65 at around 5am and right now it's 68, no need for heat on yet. We've had enough sun to heat our house but we are in BC and it's the start of our cloudy/rainy/snow season and I'm sure we won't see the sun until March so I'm thinking this week we'll have to cave and turn on the heat. We did put the fireplace on for about an hour the other night. I like cooler air temps in the house, especially at night so it's not about being saving money and suffering, I'd rather wear a cozy sweater and have the fireplace on a wee bit.

We are not in a major cold weather area but I have been starting a fire in the fireplace for the past two mornings. I don't handle cold very well.

We set it at 65 as soon as the overnight temps start dropping. My dh does not do well with cold.

My heat is set to come on at 60. It hasn't come on yet. However, this week it's supposed to be chilly and rainy until Friday, I think it may kick on depending on how low the temps drop at night. Sometimes we're lucky and it doesn't come on until around December.
We aren't uncomfortable. We like it on the cool side (especially to sleep!) and can snuggle up in our comfy winter clothes.

We turn it on as needed, when overnight lows are mid 40s and below. This time of year it's practically a full-time job turning a/c on and off, heat on and off, and opening and closing windows. We like it cool so windows are open when temps are in the 50s, heat stays at 64 throughout the winter.
I can't abide overheated spaces. Last night I was in several stores and was wearing a short-sleeve t-shirt because they must have been heated to 70 plus degrees.

This is my younger son, too. Myself, I can't even get to sleep if it's too warm. I feel all stuffy and I can't settle. So even though it was in the 40s outside last night we had a window cracked in our room. I needed a bit of that cool air.
