Just curious if anyone would change travel plans due to the current coronavirus outbreak or past outbreaks? Do you have any travel planned in the near future that is making you rethink your plans?
What criteria plays into your decision? Destination? Current health condition? Money? Number of countries affected? Number of fatalities? etc.. If you travel for business, does your company have a policy?
My 12 y/o ds and I will be traveling to an area outside Barcelona in less than 1 month. He was selected for a prestigious sports camp. There will be kids coming from other areas of the US as well. We cannot postpone the trip as this is just held once a year. My dh will join us part of the time as he will be traveling for business. I'm listening to the news and it's in the back of my mind, but I don't have any plans to cancel at this time.

We have plans to go to Egypt in 19 days - and a cruise in and out of Barcelona in the middle of April. I'm not considering changing either of those ... at this time. We have been discussing what the respective travel companies are doing about it. The Egypt trip is through RoadScholar -- and they have a big train adventure we were looking at -- in Wuhua (is that how that is spelled?) I don't find anything on the RoadScholar web site as to whether or not they have a group currently in China - what they might be going about those adventures. How the COMPANY is responding as a bigger issue for me ... right now!

Not unless the state department has a strong warning or the country I am traveling to prohibits travel. We traveled to Mexico during the bird flu (and got a great deal by the way), to Europe not long after the Icelandic volcano (great airfare prices) and cruised Carnival after the Triumph went haywire (got a 5 day cruise for about $250 per person)

I am flying to Jamaica this week -- stopping in Chicago on the way and Atlanta on the way back. We arent canceling our trip, but I am researching things I can do to keep us safer. In March we are going back to Malibu and flying into LAX and April we are in Vegas. We wont be canceling any of these trips but I will take extra precautions. Short of a US-Nation wide epidemic, I think the best I can do is take precautions.
(This its based on DH and I being 100% healthy and not having a compromised immune system).

I wouldn't even think about it. If I was traveling to the region where the virus is most prominent then maybe I'd postpone, but I'd go anywhere else in the world that I had planned to go. Enjoy Barcelona!

If I were going to China I would think long and hard about canceling that trip. It would come down to where we were going vs how great the outbreak is in the area and surrounding areas in relation to the population.
If I were going anywhere else I probably wouldn’t cancel at this point. But I am not easily scared by diseases.

The military closed travel to China for service members and their families the week after we were there. We were all just fine. It’s good to take these things seriously, but Barcelona and their medical care is a long way from China.

Depends on my destination and any other travel difficulties I might encounter. I would cancel any immediate trip to Wuhan China or other cities in China that have been basically shut down (no public transit is open) Or has a significant oubreak. I would look for information like the map graphic here: www.foxnews.com/health/coronavirus-us-citizens-diplomats-evacuated-wuhan The rest of the world wouldn't bother me.

FWIW, the US is evacuating diplomats and other expats from Wuhan and parts of China.

If the Canadian govt put out an advisory not to travel to an area would be my limit. Insurance would refund me at that point.

My tipping point would be if the gov’t put an advisory on travel to the region I was visiting. We just booked a trip to China for March 2021 and my little dd was worried about the virus. I told her there will be something else to worry about by then. We are travelling to the Middle East in next month and I wouldn’t think twice (unless there is an advisory....or war).
I wouldn’t worry about Barcelona.

Active outbreak of new or serious pathogen, with or without travel warning, I would probably not go to that place. I would still go to other places.
Normal exposure to everyday or common regional pathogens I would normally go.
I would not go to China right now, it’s too new and unknown for me. But I have traveled places with malaria, dengue, etc without hesitation.

DS will be traveling domestically. We’re monitoring the situation but don’t have plans to cancel yet.

Ccno plans to cancel anything yet. Admittedly my trip, isn't booked yet - awaiting soccer schedule. But as soon as it's out I plan to book. Biggest impact for me is I'll definitely get insurance this time.... Travel and medical.

I wouldn’t worry about travel in Europe at this point. My neighbour across the street was telling me tonight that another neighbor in our subdivision caught the corona virus when he was on business in China a few weeks ago. Instead of staying there until he was well, he decided to come back to MI. He arrived at her house to help her DH with some house repairs and he looked awful. My neighbor is a nurse, and also has medically fragile children so she was pissed this guy had come into her house knowing full well he was sick and contagious. We have had no public warnings in our county that the virus is here so I’m assuming the guy didn’t go to hospital.

No one wants to believe in science anymore. The numbers don’t lie, but it’s no good when no one hears them.

Before I travel, I always look to see what the travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories are stating. Also, anyone who travels without any travel/medical insurance shouldn't be travelling. The cost of a policy is very low compared to what the actual cost of what an actual emergency would cost them. Sometimes your credit card has travel insurance included, provided that you use that card to book your travel/trip.

I've traveled throughout Asia when there were outbreaks of various diseases, including ebola. People coming from certain areas had to have their temperatures taken before they could enter the terminal. The planes and airports are where you need to be very careful and the likelihood of transit being shut down is a hardship. A government warning would cause me to cancel. Be vigilant, but don't overreact.

If you're worried about travel but refuse to get a flu shot, I can't even with you.
For now, no, I'm not worried. We have at least one case of coronavirus in the suburbs near me, but I'm not freaking out.
To compare, six people have died just in my county from the flu this flu season.

As others have said I wouldn't cancel my travel plans at this point, unless there were government warnings in the area where I was planning to travel.
I hope people don't overreact. A friend's husband returned on Friday from China after weeks of working there. He was in an area which hasn't been affected by the virus. My friend made the mistake of telling her neighbor that her husband was glad to be home, but was exhausted from the trip. (He'd only gotten off the plane a couple of hours earlier). The neighbor told my friend her husband should be tested for the coronavirus immediately. My friend explained that he had no symptoms other than he was tired after traveling for almost 24 hours. Now my friend is afraid that this woman is going to start telling everyone that her husband has the virus.

If someone would start spreading mis-information about someone who was in China and was now exhausted from the trip (a trip is exhausting for almost everyone), I would be really p!$$ed. IT is almost to the point that no one can even chat about stuff that is happening in their lives, due to someone who might not comprehend what was said and starts to gossip. My sympathy to your friend, who might be the victim of social media mis-information.

My husband travels from PA to New Zealand for work, and is tired for 3 weeks after he gets back from his 2 week trip. You friend's neighbor is clueless about the exhaustion in travel. Long days of traveling for long flights, and different time zones are very exhausting on many people.
