Yes I do.
I felt the same way as the author describes when i learned that not everybody sees a picture/movie in their mind when they read.

I absolutely do, so clear in fact I sometimes wonder if this is what people with dissociative personality disorder hear 😳
........would tell them that I could look at myself in the mirror and have a full blown telepathic conversation with myself without opening my mouth and they responded as if I had schizophrenia.......
and I’ve thought everyone hears their own voice the way I do but apparently not? 🤷🏻♀️ 😬 😦

Yes and it gets me in trouble because sometimes I open my mouth and my thoughts tumble out so that other people can also hear them.

Yes I do. Sometimes I forget which one is in my head and start talking mid sentence.

I almost posted this myself yesterday! I found this fascinating. I’m definitely not an internal monologue person. I have a big idea cloud above my head, like a web of thoughts.

This must be doing the rounds as a friend asked me this a couple of days ago. It’s fascinating!
I have a monologue and thought everyone “heard” their own thoughts too and I can also see pictures. This might be part of the article but I didn’t read all of it - If you ask me to visualise my dining chair I can see a picture of it in my head. If you ask me to visualise 3 tomatoes I can see them in my head and I can also place the tomatoes ON the chair, in pictures, in my head.
I remember thinking years ago what do schizophrenic people hear when I can hear all this?!
I absolutely don’t understand a cloud of thoughts above the head! How does that work?

I think both in words and in inter-relationships of stuff. Sometimes all words in my head, sometimes all relationships with no verbal component, sometimes both together.
My DD said the same thing, when she doesn’t think verbally it’s not exactly ‘pictures’ she sees or thinks in but how objects inter relate.

I think I actually do BOTH. I do think a lot in full sentences, and it’s probably how I think most of the time, but it’s not always the case. Sometimes I visualize it in pictures or words.
If you think in full sentences, are you always aware of it?

My thought process is a jumble to be honest. Mostly it has a movie quality (images) interspersed with text screens to carry some of the more abstract ideas. Sometimes it is my voice with a verbal comment and sometimes my voice makes a verbal comment and a different voice responds.

Yes, I do have this. And in fact, when my mania is running rampant, it is debilitating. I cannot shut it off and focus on a task. It is torture.

That's my 'inside voice' which more-and-more often leaks into my 'outside voice'.

Both the Boy and I have this internal monologue/dialogue happening.
I also spend time “wandering inside my mind.” It’s like taking a walk and discovering things I had forgotten about or had put on a shelf for later consideration. Due to the manner in which I grew up, I developed a kick-ass internal world in my brain.

I don’t know that I‘ve ever thought about it before. I work by myself now for the most part and as a result I spend a lot of time alone. I make mental laundry lists of things I need to do, stuff I need to remember to buy, stuff I want to tell someone later but I don’t know that I have actual conversational, full sentences dialogues with myself. Sometimes if I’m trying to figure out something particularly complex, usually my stream of conscious thought will spill out verbally while I’m troubleshooting or problem solving, i.e. thinking out loud.
When I’m reading either to myself or out loud, I do visualize the actual pictures in my head.

Yes I do have an inner monologue but it's not non-stop. My brain doesn't spin non stop like I've heard others say. DH overanalyzes things and thinks and thinks and can't sleep, his internal monologue must never shut up. Yes I do. I felt the same way as the author describes when i learned that not everybody sees a picture/movie in their mind when they read. I was blown away when I learned that people see a movie when they read! I hear my voice when I read, yes. If it was something described well or a place or thing I know I could picture it if I stopped and thought but I don't I just keep reading. I can picture people, places, things in my life.

I was blown away when I learned that people see a movie when they read! I see what I'm reading in my mind. It's probably not as complete as a movie but it's most of the action/whatever is going on as I read. I'm fascinated that not everyone has an inner monologue. I wonder if there's been a scientific study on it?

I have internal conversations constantly and there is also often a song playing as well - lots of stuff going on up there. It drives dh a little crazy since I think I have told him things or asked him something when in actual fact nothing has been said out loud.

No. If I have to speak to a group, I mentally prepare my speech, make a few notes on a card (to remember talking points) and rehearse it in my head. But, in my mind I don't hear my voice.
When I read a novel, I do have images in my head of what is happening in the story.

I can't watch gory or violent movies because I can't get the image out of my head, but I can read it. Weird, right? I have an inner monologue most of the time, but it's not conversational, but rather list making, problem solving or wishing. I can turn it off easily if I need to concentrate on a task or if the thoughts become bothersome.

Definitely. Ranging from making lists of things I need to remember, to working out problems, often done aloud when I'm out walking. I also do my gratitude list aloud while sitting on a bench while out on my walk. Often there is also a musical earworm going on up there.

I love to read because to me they are just words on a paper, not images or visions. YES this - the rest of my family gets a visual picture of what they read but I don't. I wonder if that's why I'm not very into TV/movies?

No, I don't think so. But maybe I am just not understanding what this is exactly. I will reread the article when I am not rushed. Very interesting.

No chair, no tomatoes, no pictures in my head I just listened to a podcast where the caller absolutely cannot "picture" anything. When she closes her eyes, it's black. She also can't picture past memories. Like I can picture my childhood bedroom... she knew she had a bed and the room had pink wallpaper but beyond that she couldn't tell you anything else. There's actually a name for it - afantasia maybe? My memory sucks but it was something like that.

DH overanalyzes things and thinks and thinks and can't sleep, his internal monologue must never shut up. I was thinking maybe I don't have this internal monologue but I must because I'm like this, especially if there's something specific on my mind. I'll lay there for hours going over scenarios, what I'd say, how someone could possibly respond, etc and it's all with visuals.
