I just ordered new low poo and one condition and then I saw a popular Youtuber claiming Deva Curl makes people lose their hair and there’s a potential class action lawsuit. Does anyone have this experience?

No. I've been using it for about 3 years and love it. Have never had a problem with it at all. I use no-poo cleanser and One Condition and also the styling cream. It's the only thing that doesn't make my hair frizzy.

Dd has been using deva curl for quite some time with no issues. She’s got a thick head of curls.

Apparently the issues are coming from the No-Poo/Low-Poo product. People aren't scrubbing/massaging their scalp enough,build-up forms and blocks hair growth. At least that's what I read over on my curly-girl board. I initially started using it and it was great but I've since found other amazing products that work as well or better at 1/2 the cost or less.
ETA what I'm using:

This happened to me with Deva products years ago. It destroyed my hair.

I think it works for some people's chemistry and others it doesn't. I happen to be an other. The products do nothing for me and my hair felt icky when I used them. I now use Shea Moisture shampoo/conditioner and Kenra curl glaze.
Remember when Wen by Chaz Dean had the class action lawsuit? I actually LOVED that stuff, but now I'm afraid to use it.

Most Deva Curl products are quite high in protein. If your hair is sensitive to protein, their products are not for you (protein overload can make your hair feel like straw). I use DC products daily. Sometimes my hair tells me it’s getting enough protein and I switch out to something that is protein-free for a while. I always come back to DC because they make a good product.
The influencer who first started calling foul on DC blamed it on moisture overload as a result of use of their Delight line which happens to be their least moisturizing line. Her videos, in general, show a basic lack of science and she has this tendency to use products in ways they are not intended.
I’m not saying DC won’t cause issues with some people but their products don’t contain ingredients that you can’t find in many other product lines. They are also products that are used quite extensively in the curly community. So the Venn diagram of curly haired people with hair loss issues is going to have a lot of intersection with curly haired people who use at least one DC product. Doesn’t mean they are causing all of the issues.

My hair is pretty curly but also pretty fine, and Deva Curl products weighed it down over time. I did not have hair loss, though.

I've been following this issue too in my curly haired forum on facebook and from what I've been reading I agree with Dalai Mama. I don't use Deva Curl for one basic reason: it has too much protein and because my hair is both thin in each strand (although I have a ton of it) and because it's low porosity (takes a long time to get wet and hours to dry) it doesn't like protein.
As far as what other products to recommend? On my forum it's recommended to go with water soluble products because they won't build up in your hair. From what I've read on my forum if you get build up in your hair you have to use a cleansing shampoo to get it out which is harsh on the hair and then do a deep conditioning treatment afterwards to bring the moisture back. It's actually a moot point for me since I have hard water and have to do this anyway every month. Michym's curls are the nicest I've ever seen and her products aren't water soluble so it really depends on what works best for each individual. Shea Moisture products for me are too heavy for my hair.
I personally use all Jessicurl products which you can buy online-here is the website jessicurl.com although I'm toying with the idea of switching to Moptop products because I'm not getting enough days of lasting style days. Both companies offer sample packs of their products for very little so you can try out their products. moptophair.com is the website for Moptop. I just ordered the sample pack for moptop myself to try out their products.
The other water soluble lines are more expensive. They are rawhairorganics and innersensebeauty.com which is Raw Curls and Innersense. Both of these companies don't offer sample packs but they do offer trail sizes. Sample packs are cheaper (around 10.00 for everything) while trail sizes are small bottles of 4 products and are more expensive.
Before trying any new brand you'll get the best results by doing a cleansing wash first (if you haven't been following the CG method yet I recommend a shampoo with sulfates to get rid of the silicones in your hair-if you have been following the CG method a good one is Kinky Curly Come Clean available at Target) followed by a great deep conditioner. The best one I know of is Jessicurl Deep Treatment. Then for your next wash you'll be ready to try your new brand of products.

I have been using Deva Curl products for several years and I now have a problem with my hair falling out. Dermatologist said it was probably genetic but neither parent had hair loss. It's weird, it is like a stripe of missing hair in the front on one side.
My hair has always been thin. But now I think of it their hair loss correlates with the use of Deva Curl products. Will need to check this out.

Bumping this thread from Feb. I got sick of my hair coming out in handfuls every time I washed so I ordered small bottles of Jessicurl. I don't know if my hair is protein sensitive or not but here's hoping this works for me. I also, like millions of Americans, need a hair cut badly!

I don’t care for most Deva Curl products. I don’t like the fragrance or the way they make my hair feel. My hair loves protein and has a love/hate thing going on with glycerin depending on the dew point any given day. My favorite shampoo and conditioner are both made by Bounce Curl. I order them from Bouncecurl.com. My favorite leave in conditioner is Curls Blueberry Bliss. I buy it at Target. My favorite enhancer is Recoil by AG which I find at Ulta. I use either Jessicurl Spiralicious Gel or Aussie Instant Freeze gel depending on how much hold I need. Moptop makes nice products, but most are too glycerin heavy for me on an average day.

I used Devacurl years ago, and it destroyed my hair. I had SIGNIFICANT hair loss.
When I mentioned this to people in the Deva cult, I was told I had to have had counterfeit product. (Nope, I paid tons of money to buy the product from my stylist and give my self bald spots!) I was told to get a medical workup. I was told it must be something, anything, but Devacurl.
I'm sorry to see others are experiencing the same thing. It took years for my bald spots to fill in, and my hair is still much thinner than before.

So before SIP I showed my DC Stylist the growing bald spot. She stated I was using the wrong combination of products and to make sure I rinse it all out, then overnight condition once a month. So I ordered new DC products and it is worse, plus burning sores developed on my scalp. I quit and now searching new products. It is unfortunate, my hair looks great when I use the DC products but it is killing my scalp.
