In the last few years I've followed a few cases a bit on Websleuths. Not too much as it takes a ton of time! But someone I know posted something on FB a few weeks ago and I've been reading about JonBenet. Anyone have recommendations of sites etc to check out?
I've read one book and am reading another. As soon as I think I have a theory, I read something else and poof. Damn, I wish they hadn't messed up that crime scene. That poor little girl deserves justice.

I don't follow cases on Websleuths, but I've watched a few documentaries and listened to several podcasts about JonBenet. This case should have been solved. It's such a sad story. I think it's obvious there was never an intruder, but something happened within that house, within that family.... So no matter who caused her death, it's a sad situation. I don't believe anyone planned to murder her with evil intentions. I believe it was a murder made in a fit of rage/frustration, not a calculated, intentional act.
The police messed this one up bad. A lot of the bad decisions made by them immediatly after arriving at the house seems to be inexperience more than anything. And then they never really redeemed themselves in the following days. I think police departments with few murders and little experience with this kind of crime scenes are caught completely off guard. Especially in that time period. What training did the Boulder PD have in securing crime scenes? And the first responding police officers were inexperienced and human. And they didn't know it was a murder. Just that a little girl was missing.
John Ramsey will never talk. Patti passed away. Unless Burke confesses we'll never know. That is my guess.

Have you watched Dr. Phil's interview with JonBenet's father and brother? That was quite interesting!

I have watched a TON of stuff on JonBenet.. (didn't live that far from her.. maybe around 20 miles)...
as the years go by on that one.. unless there is 100% proof.. I don't think we will ever know.
Sometimes I think mom did it, then I look at something else and think the brother did something, then go back to the dad. I don't think in my lifetime there will ever be justice for that little girl.
About a year ago, maybe last summer, I drove by the house while I was doing some errands in Boulder. I have seen it a few times... I always am shocked how small the yard is and how close the neighbors are.. when I see it on the news, it seems like a huge yard and so forth.. I think.. someone should have heard something. (just me pondering)

I saw two great Q and A on Reddit. One with the former Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner. He headed the investigation into the Jon Benet Ramsey murder. the second one was with Chief Marshall James Kolar who wrote a book on the case. I highly recommend reading both!

There was no intruder. I believe John and Patsy covered up whatever happened and that we will probably never know.

Have you read "The Cases That Haunt Us by John E. Douglas, Mark Olshaker - he is the FBI agent that the TV show Mindhunter is loosely based on. He's one of the FBI agents who developed serial killer profiling. There's a section on JonBenet in that book. John Douglas has seen a lot of kids murdered by their parents and he does not believe either parent had anything to do with her death, and when he takes you through it step by step in the book you can see why.

I thought that DNA and lie detectors had exonerated the whole family. For the record, I think the brother did something, possibly accidentally.

My gut leans toward the family, but from what I've read, I still can't figure out the exact scenario. But clearly nobody else can. At least with enough evidence to prove it.

I must say I find the theory of Burke doing it the hardest to believe. I mean that he hit her over the head hard enough to seriously kill her? Maybe? But then the parents doing all that to cover it up? Unless they were seriously twisted, I cant imagine doing all that to her body...

If you listen to podcasts you would probably like True Crime Garage's 6 part series on JonBenet Ramsey.
It's very detailed and thorough and they did a great job. I like podcasts because I can do other things like chores, drive, or go for a walk while I listen. I'm not tied to the tv like I am when I'm watching a documentary.
Have you looked into the Maura Murray case? It's an interesting one, too.

And then they both were covering up? Maybe? I don't know, from what I've read his behavior seems the weirdest. And honestly as a mother, I just have a hard time imagining any mother doing that to her baby. At least not one who seemed so devoted and loving to that child.

There's a documentary on Hulu that aired in April 2019. You just reminded me that I saw it in passing last week and stuck it in my favorites to watch later. Has anyone watched it? It is an hour and a half long and called Hunting Jonbenet's Killer: The Untold Story.

To me Patsy seemed to be seriously unhinged with some sort of a personality disorder. I know she was ill and under a lot of holiday stress. I have personally seen a couple of stressed mothers and one father go berserk on their kids when they have been set off. I do agree that knowing the things that were done to her little body it is hard to wrap my head around a mother going that far. I have also wondered if her cancer may have spread to her brain making her go off the deep end. I believe Patsy was definitely lying for whatever reason.

So does he think it was the brother, or doesn't he touch on that? It's been a while since I read it but as far as I recall he doesn't think that was possible either. Although I read it when it was first released in 2001 so my memory of the details are a bit hazy...I actually own the book & might do a re-read. He thinks it is someone that knew the family who had been in the house before. I remember reading what he wrote and thinking it made perfect sense.

I think the investigation was so badly bungled we’ll never know what happened.
I used to be convinced there was no intruder, but once I saw demonstrations where a full grown man was able to go through the basement window, I began to think it might have been an intruder.

This is another investigation that I followed for quite a while, but haven’t really read anything recently. I was in the “ A family member killed her camp” for a very long time. I also saw the demonstration about a man being able to get through the basement window. And it did make me wonder about an intruder. I also thought there was some unknown male DNA they found on her underwear. But....... Have they come to any conclusions about the ransom note? That’s been a real sticking point for me. Patsy was unable to be completely eliminated as the writer. The paper came from their house. The pen came from their house. The amount of money was a very specific on amount - $118,000. I remember reading where someone did a deeper analysis of the whole note and there were just some really odd things about the way it was written. ETA - This is what I read. There may be something more recent that disputes all of this as nonsense. www.statementanalysis.com/jonbenet-ramsey-murder/ransom-note/And wasn’t the garrote that was used to strangle her made from the broken handle of one of Patsys paintbrushes? I think if not one of the family members, then it was someone that the Ramseys knew. I also think the Patsy knew who it was without a doubt and was part of the cover-up, at minimum, I think John was also part of the cover-up. In all honesty, sadly, I keep coming back to it being one of the family members.

I have no clue who did it, but they knew the Ramseys very very well.

I'm a Websleuths and true crime junkie. Jon Benet? I still can't decide. How about Darlie Routier? Anyone follow that case? She's another I just can't decide on, after studying it for actual decades.

I'm not a true crime junkie, but one really can't avoid all the coverage on Jon Benet. What a tragic, sordid web of deceit. The only thing I know for certain is that one or both of her parents knew waaayyy more than they have ever admitted. Poor child.

I’m happy to know that I am not alone in my fascination of true crime. I also watch those real prison shows. I have worried about myself being interested in this stuff.
I have marked all the links and suggested sites and will do some investigating.

I believe an intruder killed JonBenet. The unknown male DNA on her underwear points to it. Also, a girl in JonBenet's dance school was assaulted in her home by an intruder nine months later and the situation was very similar to JonBenet's and I've always thought there was a connection.

But the house was full of people there for the holiday party and the weird Santa that was there...but I don’t think we’ll ever know for sure.
