I am curious what the Peas think? All over the news you hear Americans don't want us to send out troops to Iraq and defend that Americans called for an end to the war? The President says he heard our calls and kept his promise. Is that what we really feel? I don't know the answers just wondering what Peaville thinks.
My two cents: ;I only know I was very afraid after 9/11 we lost friends of our family and colleagues that day and it changed the way I felt about our safety in everyday life for a long time. If the terrorist had training camps there at the time I thought we should disrupt them. I guess I naively thought we'd be leaving Iraq a better place and today it is awful by most accounts. My nephew has been on 4 tours there and I was worried for him. He lost countless friends in Road side bombs and combat incidences.I feel for the people of Iraq that have been put through the ringer from the Russian invasion, Sadam Hussien, American troops, and now Terrorist groups taking over their towns. It seems to me these groups may not be that interested in them if they didn't sit on all that oil. It would be a horrible place to raise a child and as a mom I can't help but think of it from that perspective. I tend to feel if we destabilized their country and now it's under attack from ISIS we should help them. In doing so it would also help the world who ISIS has in it's target range. I can't imagine living in fear a terrorist group would storm our town take away the boys under 12 and the women and children-killing the men and many others in their path in violent and public ways.
My own 2 cents aside-I 100% own that this is only how I see things through my own experiences and perspectives. I don't expect many to agree with me as each of us looks at it from a differnt angle. The peas always give great input into what people from all over think and I value others opinions.

I think that part of the world is different from here, democracy doesn't work. They have a mix of ethnic groups living together that haven't gotten along for centuries. Saddam had his faults, but he kept the country united and together. A country like Iraq will only be stable with another dictator that puts fear into people. I do think our invasion was a costly mistake that made the country unstable. For those that argue that Saddam killed his citizens in mass graves, well Iraqi citizens in the past 10 years continue to die in attacks in road side bombs or other violence. But the country was stable under Saddam, we invaded the country not understand the culture of Iraq. I really wish the US would invade an African country, so many of them have chaos where women routinely raped as a method of ongoing war.

I voted we should never have been there in the first place and pulling out allowed the ISIS to take over.
If we are not going to keep an active military presence there then we need to pull all Americans out... close our embassy, pull out the working expats and let those who live there sort it out. Yes, it would be horrible to raise a child in what is going on. But that is their decision to make.
