A couple of weeks ago on the General Scrapping board, there was a thread about the filler embellishments for shaker cards from Dress My Craft.
I don’t know how many here do shaker cards, but I used to have fun making them, and the post reminded me of Queen and Company shaker kits.
I bought two kits (Sweets and Gum machine) from Q&Co., which arrived super fast, but the amount of filler embellishments doesn’t look like it will last long before they run out. The refills also seem a bit pricey. I tried looking at a local craft store today, and while they had no small pearl beads without holes that I could use for gumball shaker fillers, or candy shaker fillers, they did have the real cake and candy toppers.
Would it be crazy to use the actual candy balls and/or other hard sugar candy for fillers? The shaker encloses them in card stock, foam, and plastic, which should protect them from humidity.

I personally would not use real candy in a shaker card. That's just me. I just ordered a school kit from Queen & Co. I had to have that school house. I also think I need the Sweets one with the sweet truck. You can find fillers similar from etsy, aliexpress, and other online craft stores. Etsy
Candy Clay Sprinkles from EtsyAliexpress
Tiny beads for shaker cardsThis link is for Etsy. Tiny beads for shaker cards
This link is for Aliexpress. Do a search for "Clay Sprinkles," or "Candy Clay Sprinkles." I purchased some clay sprinkles from Etsy. There were a little higher than aliexpress but they were already in the United States so they arrived quickly. I've purchased different clay sprinkles from aliexpress. Without looking it up, I don't know what the Gum Machine shaker kit looks like. Here are some round foam balls from Etsy. (I have some of these that I purchased from Aliexpress.) Honey Bee Stamps has a lot of shaker card filler stuff. Look under Embellishments. (They just had a 20% off sale that ended last night. It's probably good I missed out on that sale.)

Paper Wishes have THESE EMBELLISHMENT BOTTLES and I have a couple of similar bottles in Michaels' with beads, or sequins, or other tiny embellishments that work well with shaker cards.

I bought a shaker container at Michael's and have Martha Stewart's large glitter pieces. I use the large glitter with the other made for card fillers.

Real candy is probably more environmentally friendly than the fillers sold for card shakers, so I'd say go for it. Cards don't usually last forever anyways.

At convention, I usually saw prills and similar fillers, but I’m not sure about the slightly larger gum ball size for the gum machine. Queen and Company doesn’t have the styrofoam shaker frame refills for the gum machine set, so it may be an older set that is being discontinued. A lot of refill parts and pieces are showing as coming in 2020 for other sets, but gum ball fillers are not among them. Some of the other sets have different colored balls, but not the bright multicolored ones I want.
The filler balls really need to be plastic or clay, if the real candy doesn’t work. The foam balls have too much static. I already tried the foam balls, and it was a disaster.
Today at Tuesday Morning, they had a beads set (for adding to slime) that was exactly what I wanted. It had one container of multi colored plastic pearls that will work perfectly for the gum balls, along with a container of microbeads, and a third container of larger beads. The latter one is useless to me, since the beads in that one are too large and have holes, but I was happy to find the set, even though it was $4.99 (a bit higher price than I was hoping). Edit: what I thought were plastic pearls were not. They were foam, and full of static. Totally disappointed.
I am seriously thinking of trying the actual candy balls, too, although I want to see if I can figure out a way to expose a shaker card made with real candy filler to high humidity, to see if it gets sticky, slimy, or whatever. I do want the cards to last at awhile.
I really appreciate all the links. I will check them out.

The other bonus to real candy is that the recipient can eat it!

Actually, I bought these but have not used them yet, but Papertrey Ink has a Penguin, Reindeer, and Santa which are potbellies. They are made to put candy in. Here is a blog that shows them with the candy in them. They also have a unicorn that is a potbelly. Previously I posted that I didn't think I would use candy, I guess I am going to have to change that answer. Papertrey Ink now goes by Ink to Paper.

Thanks for posting about the potbellied shakers. It’s fun to see the different shakers that are trendy now. I’m delighted to see shaker cards back in style.
I watched the section of that Tim Holtz shakers on the release video. I loved the domes, but I am wondering how well they mail.
I had one card that the post office told me would cost the same as a package to mail, because the postal worker said she couldn’t bend it. It was an elaborate pop up card. I am wondering if the dome shakers would have the same issue.
I hate buying anything from Sizzix anymore, because of their stupid lawsuits against other companies. Those dome shakers are super cute, though.

I would say go for it with the real candy. What can it hurt?
