Anyone else loathe travel as much as I do? I can't stand the running around packing, getting animals covered, travel arrangements. The worst for me is hotels. They gross me out, even the nice hotels. Thinking about all the people who have been there before me just disgusts me.

Hotels gross me out, but I love to travel. Just being away from home makes me relax a little.
The preparation, not so relaxing

I like to travel, but many times, I do prefer to just stay home and relax. It's a whole "hurry up and wait" thing. Once I'm there, I'll enjoy it for a few days, but then I get antsy to come home and do all the laundry and put it away. I'm very restless I guess you could say.

I love to visit places. I love seeing new things.
The process of traveling to and from them, I hate. I hate flying, driving long distances, and I get seasick when I step in a puddle, so cruises are out.
I don't love staying in hotels, but usually, I am not grossed out. I just can't sleep in an unfamiliar bed, and TMI, can't poop in an unfamiliar bathroom.
So, by day three, I am sleep deprived and constipated.
Sucks, because I really do like visiting new places. I wish the Star Trek teleportation could be invented soon.

I'm not a "love to travel" traveler in general. Oddly, I do enjoy staying in a nice hotel and meals out. What I don't like is the actual transportation part of traveling. Flying stresses me out to the max and I detest crowds. Good hotels and restaurants are usually located in crowded areas.... part of it is also the fact I have traveled fairly extensively in my life.

I love to travel. Planning a trip to Jamaica right now. The day of travel isn't the best, but I love to try new countries and see how people live. As far as germs go, they are everywhere and they won't stop me from doing my thing.

I hate the arguments my DH and I inevitably have almost EVERY single time we're leaving.
"Where are the keys?" " I don't know! You had them last....."
"You didn't check us in last night? I asked you three times!"
"You're eating? Seriously? We have to go! We'll eat once we get there!"
We kiss and make up on the way to the airport and have an awesome trip, but geez, I wish we could skip that part.

I travel all the time. I do enjoy getting to see a lot of the country and trying new things, going places I'd likely never get to go. I do enjoy staying in nice hotels..and since work pays for everything, it's even better.
I don't like leaving DH or my pup, and I detest airports. I always feel like I need to scrub my entire body with bleach after going thru an airport and on a plane.
I REALLY enjoy all the travel reward points. DH and I are going to Nashville in a few days and it's completely free...well..minus meals.

My partner is not a fan. His idea of a perfect vacation is to sit at home and binge watch tv series. I, on the other hand, love to travel and have no qualms leaving him at home.

Hotels gross you out............? The mechanics of getting from place A to place B isn't necessarily fun in itself but the fact that I'm going to see another part of the world is always exciting.

I hate traveling. Loathe it, actually. I am a 'creature comforts' kind of gal and HATE being away from my comfort zone.
Long lines and waits to get on a plane to travel to a place that requires I pull my needs from a suitcase does not equal relaxation and joy for me.
I know that I am in the minority, though. If I were single or without kids or pets, perhaps I would feel differently. As it is, I'd rather die on an anthill than travel anywhere.
L
ETA: Hotels do not gross me out. I never worry about that. I just don't like being away from home.

I love a good road trip, and everything that goes along with it...planning, packing, getting everything and everyone ready...but I hate flying. With a PASSION. I hate airports, planes, lines and most of all crowds...crowds are one of my biggest hangups.
I am so glad that when Tucker came into our lives we went with road trips only so he can be with us. I do not miss flying at all, although, I will admit to missing some of the further away cities we've visited in the past. The sacrifice is well worth it, though. We love being able to bring the dog along everywhere we go.

I love travel. And I hope all the rest of you stay home. It's crowded enough out there as it is. Hahahahaha. So true. Big fan of travelling. I'm just not satisfied with seeing the same places over and over again and not discovering what else is out there. Honestly? Staying home for any period of time is boring as hell, and I'd have a hard time dealing with a partner who thought it was fun to stay home instead of explore. In fact, that would be a major incompatibility and possible deal breaker in a new relationship. There is too much world and not enough time to be scared of hotel room germs. Making the plans for a trip is just as fun as the trip itself. That said there are people like the OP out there, but I think they are far and few between. The vast majority of people I know have a keen seen of adventure and the need to travel and explore.

Exactly. And if germs are such a problem, bring Lysol wipes along for the trip and wipe some of the main culprits down (remote control, etc). I have the wipes in my travel kit and I use them for that sort of thing all the time. No biggie. It's better to be proactive about things than to fear them and miss out on seeing the world.

I don't think it is germs so much that bother me about hotels. Germs are part of life. I always think of bed bugs and just the thought of all the other people sleeves me out. Not their germs really. Hard to explain I guess. I will enjoy myself once I get to the destination but like someone else I start thinking of all the unpacking, laundry I will have. When I get home I want to get it all done, dh wants to relax and do it later. I just can't do that!

I am very adventurous and like to explore. I just like to do it around my city. I rarely am at home. I am not afraid of hotel germs, hotels just gross me out. I do travel quite a bit because husband and kids love to. I am just not a fan. I smile and go along with them. They don't know I don't like it, especially my kids.

I hate airplanes and airports and crowds, but I love getting where I'm going. And I love hotels -- especially when I'm traveling alone. There's nothing better in the world than my own bed and my own room with nobody else there (especially snoring DH and the two nocturnal cats.)
I don't get to travel much anymore because of DH's disability. But I have to say, grinningcat, that I find I don't mind it at all. I love my husband so much, that I'm happy spending time with him. It doesn't really matter to me where the time is spent. I'm perfectly content chatting with him on the couch. Keep your mind open, because all your planning doesn't foresee exactly where you'll end up. It's surprising how happiness ends up coming from within. (and that's it for my existential musings!)

Same here, dh has no desire to travel, wants to stay home. But I do go occasionally without him. Family is in NY, we're in AR so I fly back every Spring to visit, decent regional airport right down the road w/direct flight to NY!. And I've been to Ireland and Bermuda with my Sister. I can get him to go to Branson every so often, and we do drive to Utah in the summer to see his family, like my Mom, his Dad can't travel any more. I don't like flying, but I don't loathe it either, probably 'cause I am usually flying somewhere fun, though LGA is not always wonderful. I do however, dislike driving much more than flying, unless someone else is behind the wheel - but I am a happy navigator, I just don't like to drive at all, I'm a nervous driver, esp at night. As long as a hotel looks clean (and after the obligatory bb check) I can sleep fine as long as I have my pillow. As far as bathroom hangups, for me, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go - no issues at all, thank heavens!

Oh I agree that there is more to come than what I plan. There is a lot to explore even close to home, I was referring to those people who don't like to go out at all (like the upthread mention of binge watching TV). I'm out all the time for work, so often being home is the best place to be. I just refuse to be tied down to home because of an incompatibility in this realm. If it's mutually agreed to stay home, yay. If it's a forced thing because the other person will only do that, not cool. Some of my best "adventures" have been at home with the person I love... but that doesn't preclude the need to be out in the world. If that makes any sense. It's early.

i love being other places but the research, prep, laundry, packing and travelling itself bite.
i am afraid of flying, so that sucks. holiday doesn't begin til i actually get there. most of the time i am fine *on* my holiday, but once i did have an anxiety attack in an elevator in montreal. that was embarrassing.
not a fan of the idea of a cruise AT ALL. not sure i would relax on the boat because i haven't "gotten there yet"!

I love the whole process. Flying is a thrill...my dad has a pilots license so I've been aboard planes all my life. I was in the co-pilot's seat at ten years old. A luxury hotel is a grand adventure. Room service. People watching. Finding fun things to do in a new place...not just tourist things.
One thing I can not do is let my life be ruled by fear. Fear of the uncontrollable just isn't going to be the way I live. Germs? Rarely give em a second thought.
Live big!!

No, you're not the only one. I have no desire to travel the world either. The thought of bed bugs in hotels totally skeeves me out, and I would never leave my dogs in a kennel....they would hate that. So we have a 5th wheel we pull along with us when we head out. Dogs get to come along, I have my own bed, my own bathroom, as much food as I want to bring, we can eat out if we want. We live in CA so there's plenty to see and do out here in the west, and our plans once we retire in three years includes venturing out across the country. I've seen a lot of it, my dh has not. I have absolutely zero desire to go to another country. Zero.
