I was stupid and left my laptop lying on the floor, and one of my children apparently stepped on it. The screen is cracked and occasionally my cursor goes wonky like there's something wrong with the trackpad. Can laptop screens be replaced or am I going to be shopping for a new one?

Is it a touch screen? when my cat stepped on my laptop and broke the screen, I was told it was more expensive to replace the screen than to purchase a new one. Fortunately, my warranty covered it. Do you have a warranty on yours? one you had to pay extra on?

Yes a screen can be replaced. I had DD's done and it cost me £100( approx $150) if I remember rightly or just over, but there was nothing else damaged. She trod on hers but I had it done because it was fairly new. Can you just take it to a repair store and see how much it would cost and then decide if it was worth repairing or replacing it.

Yes, the screen can be replaced. Mu husband and I do this type of thing for a living. Don't go to Best Buy though. For the most part, they don't know what they are doing, and will probably just try to sell you a new one. Take it to a local computer place or a screen replacement place. They would be able to tell you how much and if it's worth it. Or, if you would like, send me the info on the laptop-make, model, size, etc. and a pic of how bad it is, and I can at least give you an approximation. As for the cursor, it could just be wonky because of the cracked screen. If it's actually the mouse pad, it would be more difficult to fix. But, I would have no way of knowing for sure without seeing it.

He attempted to take the laptop apart and it was quite the challenge, so he decided before going further, to just have it done. Geek Squad told us that they could do it, but we would have to buy the part ourselves and bring it to them. What the heck? So we took it to a repair place the I told the guy what he said and he said of course they are going to tell you that, as that is a hassle for you and you will say the heck with it and buy one of their new computers. ha! What a marketing strategy!

It was a touch screen, and they quoted more than a new laptop (with touch screen) to fix it. You can turn the touch screen off in your OS settings. It’s what’s causing that cursor issue, so it can at least be used, until you can get a new one.
