I just got my Gemini and wanted backup plates. I ordered from Crafter’s Companion directly (HSN was sold out). My order qualified for a free die which I thought was nice. I got my order and it turns out that it’s an outline die set. It says right on the package it’s made to go with one of their stamp sets. I figured maybe it was a ploy to get you to buy the stamp, but no. That stamp was discontinued. No place has them, not even the company. So basically Crafter’s Companion is unloading useless dies and calling them free gifts. Why even bother? Tax purposes or something?
In any case thinking of emailing them and giving them my thought on this. What do you all think?

That is really bad. I'd complain.

Without being sarcastic or angry, I think you should let them know what you think. People need to let them know consumers are not stupid!

Yeah, without sounding like a Choosy Beggar, I'd let them know how disappointed i was when i couldn't use my free gift (that i had been excitedly awaiting), and had even hoped i could buy the matching stamps from their site, but then decided not to order anything once i realized that they were discontinued.

I too would let them know. And I'd let them know that you were telling your scrappy friends! It's misleading, and could probably be construed as false advertising.

That’s even worse than the terrible piggy stamp SSS gives as a birthday gift and that’s saying something!

It's probably their way of getting rid of dead stock and writing it off as 'promotional expenses'. Pretty shitty thing to do, though. At least send something the average customer would consider useful.

I agree, yes, it probably isn't worth your time, but if no one complains or calls them out on it, it will happen again. I try not to be a right fighter, but sometimes you just gotta say something.

I would email them and ask WHY send a free gift that is worthless unless you already had the stamp or could buy it?
I would also mention that at the very least, they could at least offer you a graphic download that you could PRINT in the correct size to use WITH the die!

Heck, even a SVG file or cut file or even a clipart for goodness-sakes would be more useful for the majority of crafters vs. a coordinating die.

I would say something, nicely, because I think it is crummy to send out something useless. Once I ordered from a stamp place that sent a few small stamps as free gifts because my order was quite large. I was so happy I got some freebies, until I realized that the stamps were USED stamps. Probably from their youtube videos or show demos or something. In that instance, I didn't complain, because I hadn't ordered under the premise of qualifying for a freebie, the stamps worked perfectly fine and I would have stained them anyhow.

Thanks, everyone. I’m going to email them tomorrow. I’ll be polite even though I’d really like to tell them how crappy it is to send people something they can’t use in the guise of a free gift just to clear your stock.

Did you get around to emailing them? Any response or at least a graphic file? Inquiring minds want to know!

Did you get around to emailing them? Any response or at least a graphic file? Inquiring minds want to know! Yes I did. Several days later they answered and said they randomly picked items they had in stock and they’d pass my message on to their team. They didn’t say which team this might be. I emailed them again and said I didn’t understand why no one there knew the die was essentially useless and that I expected better from them. I also requested their CS dept email me. No reply, of course.
