In a continuing effort to distract myself from my friend's tragic situation (life support to be removed today according to latest update), I am immersing myself in Sir Angus Burger.
It's been 11+ years since we had a puppy. I'd say he's been one of the easiest going puppies we've had. He came with his house training already started, so as long as I pay attention to the schedule, he does what he's supposed to do. We had one "oops" just this morning and it was totally my fault. I didn't keep close enough eye on the schedule or him after I fed him his a.m. portion.
We are really starting to recognize/understand some things about the dynamic between the other two dogs (Hermione - miniature Dacshund 12 yrs; Sadie - Border Collie mix 8 yrs). Hermione doesn't really know how to play with the other dogs. When we got her as a puppy, we had a 10 month old Golden Retriever. She weighed 3lbs, he weighed 80+. We taught him to stay laying down when they played. So he more or less just let her chew all over him, occasionally give her a push with his nose for variety.
When Sadie came along 5 years ago, the Golden and she immediately bonded. They rough house played all the time. The Dachshund would stand off to the side barking and playing with a toy at the same time. Every once in a while you'd see her and the Border Collie attempt some play but it never went full on.
After two days of not being sure she was allowed, Sadie is finally wrestling with Angus. They are both loving it. And Hermione is still playing off to one side with the toys and barking at them on occasion. And if she does try to "join in", Sadie is being very protective of the puppy. Getting between the two and generally making it know that H is not allowed to "hurt" the puppy.
He continues to do well when crated. Learned that if I wake up and check my phone for email updates, the light will wake him up too, necessitating a 3:30am trip outside...in the rain. Brrrr.
While getting him may have not been the most rational thing I've ever done, I am so glad I ignored the grown up in me and went for it anyway. And God bless my dear husband!
P.S. He very much does NOT like the rain
