...for which one of us will be first to get Covid-19. Just a thought to cheer us all up. Or not.

I'm going to bet that it's not me.
I don't recall - Did any (how many?) regular posters ever get a confirmed diagnosis of H1N1 ("swine flu")?

I don't know, but a friend of mine--in her 50's--passed away from the "regular" flu last month. Developed symptoms Friday, and passed away overnight on Sunday night of pneumonia. She was at home and thought she could wait until "business hours" to "bother" the doctor.

I live in Los Angeles. A case has yet to be diagnosed here but it will be a matter of time because this is tourist town, both foreign and domestic. I’m not over 60 and I don’t think I have a weak immune system so hopefully my odds are good.
With odds being what they are, a Pea may not get it but we may know someone who will or we may live in a city that will get affected. Hoping for the best for everyone.

I had H1N2 I acquired while in China. I was really sick. ED doctor diagnosed it as I saw my lab report (in Canada).

I’m gonna get it for sure. This (school) year. I’ve had strep, the flu followed by a nasty upper respiratory infection I’m still battling, the worst case of constipation I have ever experienced....and wait for it....LICE. I don’t like my chances.
ETA: I DID have H1N1. As did most of my class.

Seems I've heard of several deaths from the flu among age groups I would not normally expect. I'm 64, typically quite healthy. I've not had the flu in probably 15 yrs, and don't get the flu shot. I read the warning for those over 60. It's hard to wrap my brain around the fact that I'm considered 'older' or 'elderly'--I certainly don't feel like I am. But I will heed the precautions of hand washing, and avoiding large crowds if possible.

Can we place bets, like guessing the day the baby will be born, only who gets it first and what date? Maybe we can scrounge up a bottle of hand sanitizer as the prize... The CDC just advised "older Americans" (anyone over 60) to stay home... I'm not 60, but I am waiting for the fun on Facebook when my aunts, uncles and my mom read that suggestion I can't find this CDC advice... can you please share a link?

I don’t know if it was H1N1, but a Pea passed away a couple of weeks ago from the flu. I think she was 48. I’m very sorry I don’t remember her name. Considering this, I feel this thread is, not your particular post, sort of inappropriate 😢

I know they are saying age 60 and above, but early on I heard that it was particularly hard on people in their 50's which quite a few of us are. I suppose the good thing is that if you are quarantined, you have plenty of time for chatting online so we can keep each other company.

Not great news for my team at work who are all over 60, working in retail (2 of them full time)
I’ll be sanitizing the heck out of our work space every chance I get.....

My DH is retired and has the TV on all the time. He doesn't think I should go to church on Sunday, I just looked at him. There are no cases in our state. I'm 60- and he is 66, both in good health. I mentioned I was more concerned about eating out because restaurant workers go to work sick. He agrees and says we will eat in for a while, followed up telling me I'm a good cook ha - he is a good cook and is retired!
He asked me to get some hand sanitizer for his truck, I told him there was none around. He thinks I am blowing him off! I did not even respond to his "I'll find some" yeah, right.

It was Jill - jrenae - who died recently from the flu. I think she was only 44. I am in my 60s and don’t generally catch much of anything. But I live with a 10yo who will no doubt bring home the virus if it becomes endemic, so hopefully my good genes will stand by me in this case.

He doesn't think I should go to church on Sunday In your situation, I wouldn't be concerned about going to church. However, one thing they do at the church my mother attends that has always seemed ridiculous to me is shaking hands with everyone just before communion. They call it 'sharing the peace.' People hug or shake hands right after the sermon and right before you go to take communion where you take a wafer and put it in your mouth. This has always been the most unsanitary thing to me. A few weeks ago, Mother got a cold on a Tuesday right after she had been to church on Sunday and nowhere on Monday so I know she picked it up at church. I wish they would drop the 'peace' thing in the winter or at least change the greeting each other to a no touch version. I can try to get her not to engage in this but I doubt she will abstain if everyone else is shaking hands and hugging one another.

In Dubai where I live, they’ve closed schools starting tomorrow. The kids will have 2 weeks “spring break” and then online schooling. I have one in 9th and one in K. We are staying home, no play dates, no mall, no play place. Only the neighborhood park (for now). We aren’t allowing my 6 year old to go to gymnastics and I’m stopping the gym starting tomorrow. Luckily they have tennis lessons (no contact) and swimming lessons (no contact) in the neighborhood. Unfortunately my DH is still going to work but is buying a desk from IKEA today to set up work space in the extra bedroom for when the time comes. Our biggest concern is our 9th grader because he has asthma. many people here aren’t taking it seriously.

I spent most of my day building a business continuity plan for my department.
Our students just started spring break and the thought is when they return from their travels we will be at a higher risk level of covid-19 and need to be prepared to safeguard our students, faculty and staff.

We have been joking about it at work. One employee has been out of work for a week and a half with a mystery fever and typical cold like symptoms. He doesn't have the flu and the doctors have no idea what is wrong with him. He hasn't been tested for corona virus yet... we're ready to place bets that he has it and we are all hoping we have to quarantine ourselves and not go to work.

I’ve been avoiding crowds because I’m just getting over bronchitis and while we haven’t had a case of it here, I’m playing it cautiously.

Why are you so different from anywhere else? I was just thinking about this, first it was in a city I had never heard of before on the other side of the world, then it was in northern Italy which I haven't visited in years, now it's ten miles away with the person, possibly two, hospitalised. My brother, living in a different European country, lives very near a cluster of confirmed cases with one taken to hospital. It's gone beyond the containment point in most countries, we need to follow advice to help delay the spread and protect the more vulnerable.
