Hi Everyone!
Today's mission is a good one to get he holiday started. I hate that last minute wrapping session on Chrostmad Eve! ;-)
This one is long because it has a FlyBaby's testimonial at the bottom.

Holiday Cruising Mission #3 Anti-Procrastination Day
It is Anti-Procrastination day and we are headed out on our Holiday Cruise!
Your mission for today is to gather up all of your Holiday greeting cards, wrapping paper, bows, ribbons etc. Do not go overboard on this one. Just gather all of these items together into one central location to have ready for when you need them. This is one of those things that we always seem to say we are going to get to but yet end up tearing the house apart trying to find that certain roll of paper or certain box of cards that you are just positive you remember where you put them last year.
Gather them together and place in a box that you can keep in one place to be able to use when you are ready. One member last year told us of how she used an old suit bag that hangs in her closet to hold the rolls of wrapping paper and used the zipper pockets on the side for the tape and ribbons. This is very clever and allows you to use that old suit bag that has been hanging around or you can pick up an inexpensive vinyl one at your local discount store.
Have fun and remember we are FLYing! Download your FREE Holiday Control Journal on our website. All the missions will be listed in our Holiday Cruising Section. Don't procrastinate; start buying a few gifts each week so you won't break your budget. Commit to giving clutter-free gifts this year.
My Testimonial for the Holiday Control Journal
I had to write and thank you for giving me the holidays back. Even though it is only the day after Thanksgiving, I am looking forward to the holidays with joy and anticipation, rather than the usual grumpiness and dread. The reason can be traced to one source: my holiday control journal.
I am still fluttering and sputtering along with the FlyLady system and my regular control journal. I have it all together but I must confess that I sometimes forget to check it as often as I should! Still, the benefits were obvious enough that when I started to read all your wonderful reminders about getting ready for the holiday season, it slowly started to dawn on me that a different journal could revolutionize the way I thought about the "holiday chore", as well.
I grabbed an old three-ring binder and taped an envelope into the front cover for receipts. I sat down for an hour to list all the people I needed to provide for, and I mean *all*, including the mail lady and the garbage men, along with a space to list how much I spent. No last minute panicking this year. I included a list of the things that needed to be done, including newsletters and stocking stuffers. Just thinking it through and getting it down on paper, rather than trying to juggle it all in my head, was a huge relief.
And then the list, and your urgings about budgeting, led to my first revelation of sorts: I decided that we were going to pay cash this year. No credit card bills to worry about through the spring. No overspending just because it was so easy with a piece of plastic in my hand. Because I was starting and thinking so early, I was going to concentrate on quality and thoughtfulness of gift rather than mere quantity.
Which led to my second revelation: I am going to try and make as many gifts as possible. (This is nothing new, but for once I am not starting in the middle of December, causing me to end up frustrated and exhausted by Christmas Day.) For those I cannot make, I am going to try and buy local/handmade, or else focus on time over stuff -- tickets to a museum, etc. In a different way, I am hoping to make the holidays more meaningful.
All gift ideas, coupons, lists, etc. automatically go into my binder and it comes with me as I make my rounds. I opened it at a bookstore recently to extract my coupon, and the cashier commented on what a great idea it is. And it is! I know you already know this but it is news to me: the feeling of peace that comes from a feeling of control. Thank you (and thank you from my entire family, who unfortunately also dread the holidays thanks to my poor behavior) for giving me the holidays back. I am sure I am not there yet but this is definitely a giant step forward.
