It seems like they are closing down something new every hour. We are on vacation this week on the east coast. Supposed to fly back to Arizona Tuesday morning. We are wondering if we should try to get an earlier flight home.

I’m concerned as Trump certainly likes travel bans as solutions. Hoping DS can fly home tomorrow night, I’m not willing to wait for his ticket next Friday.
Even if they don’t, I expect airlines will start canceling mostly empty flights to save money.

I don’t think airports will shut down, but I I do think flights will be scarce because of lack of passengers.

I hope not.. DD is in CA for a wedding and coming back on Sunday. Keeping fingers crossed. Sad thing is that the venue for the wedding canceled their reception. That poor bride.

I get wanting to be home if you're sick, I really do but damn! He just exposed God-only-knows how many more people because we don't know where he was before he got on that flight.

I think they should. I think they will not because money, big business, blah, blah, blah. I think money is the reason they will shut it down. It is so expensive to run an airport, with security and maintenance staff, food service, cleaning, etc., and I think many of those services are paid by fees attached to airfare, correct? If no one is flying, the airports will lose most of the revenue they need for payroll. In that case, they are losing more money by staying open than by closing. I suppose some of their funding comes from the federal government, and some probably comes from access fees that airlines pay for terminal space, but I thought there were also fees tacked onto each ticket. I could be wrong, in which case, please ignore everything I just said LOL.

I think they will. I took a friend to SeaTac last night at 8pm for a red eye. She decided to ride this out on the opposite coast so she could be closer to her family. Unless you know the airport, the details won’t make sense to you, but suffice it to say it was dead. I’ve never seen it like that. Ever. She sent me some texts from inside, barely anyone there. If no one is flying, they may as well close for a while.

I think interstate travel as well as international travel needs to be minimized, and closing airports would certainly help accomplish that.

My friend is a flight attendant for SW. She just flew in at 1pm and sent me a picture of baggage claim at Hobby Airport. Its totally empty. Not one person or bag to be seen.

As long as it doesn’t happen before Monday. I need to fly to Ohio to move my DD out of her sorority house. If need be I can do a road trip back home. But I need to be at the house on Tuesday.

I think they will. No one could have imagined that they would shut down all of professional sports. They're losing many millions of dollars on that, no different from the airports.

I work for a private aviation company and we have seen an uptick in business because of the virus. You also still have cargo carriers, mail carriers, etc. still operating. I could see some smaller, municipal airports close down for a bit, but I think it will take a lot more to shut the majors down. I could also be wrong...

DD and I are flying home tomorrow AM. We are flying SW and got boarding numbers A-43 and A-44 so some other people out there are trying to get somewhere on that flight too. With WDW closing and some of us off for spring break, I would think it would happen (if at all) after a period of time for everyone to get back to where they need to be like the 48 hours announced for the European flights

If we do go back to school in 3 weeks , I wonder how many people who enjoyed spring break will be flying back with covid. Spring break is in the middle of those 3 weeks and that doesn’t seem like enough time.

DS is on a flight as we speak, coming home from college indefinitely until they decide whether or not in person classes will resume this semester. He said he was the only one in the precheck line at the airport and there are 50 empty seats on his flight, he has a whole row to himself. He busted his ass to get his entire room packed up and on the flight today, he had booked a 2nd flight home on Monday since he thought he’d need more time... but when I saw where this was going, I told him to do whatever he needed to get on today’s flight. (Both are Southwest so we can cancel and get credit, he flies back and forth to school so no wasted funds).
So yes, I was concerned about canceled flights/travel bans, so am glad he is en route. Good luck to everyone!

I don't know. We do need to be able to get certain people to different areas quickly, but the amount of exposure on an airplane has to be high

Well, Norway has closed down most of ours, and the National Guard has been called out to prevent people from red zones to enter. Kinda ironic, considering we’re one of the countries with the most confirmed cases.

He got his room packed and into storage yesterday when the cancelled their last in person classes at midnight. They are doing all online until the end of the semester.

I don’t think they will shut down completely but flights will be very limited. Might they move all flights to one terminal? So you know, I have NO idea about the logistics of that.
