I think we are in pretty good shape if we get told to stay home. I have telecommuted for years, so I’m used to being at home. I also rarely leave the house in the winter, so right now, it seems surreal to me. Just my normal, every day. Now if DH’s work shuts down, then it’ll be different. His job cannot be done remotely.

My friend who works for a car manufacturer just went on a cruise with his wife. The cruise ended today and he’s been notified that he is not allowed to return to work for two weeks because of it. That seems surreal to me.

It all seems so strange, and I have to admit, I'm worried.
I'm worried about my parents. They're elderly and have lots of health issues. I'm worried about myself because I am immuno-compromised. I'm worried that this will go on for much longer than we are anticipating.
I've never worked from home before, and I will be all next week. Not sure how that's going to be with DH and I both working from home when usually neither of us do. The dog'll be happy, though.
I really need to visit my parents, bring them a few things, and make sure they're ok and have everything they need. We were supposed to go today, but it snowed all day and I HATE the highway there when it's snowing, so we didn't go. Hopefully we can go tomorrow, as I'm worried about them.
When we get back from seeing them (1.5 hours away), we won't be leaving the house for at least the next week.

This. I read dystopian novels, and what we are experiencing now is usually how the beginning of these novels start. It's so surreal. There's a YA novel series called Life as We Knew It. The moon changes orbit (not realistic) instead of a virus, and causes the weather to go crazy. The grocery panic, school being canceled, and the being stuck inside (and the fact that it snowed here overnight doesn't help) is almost the beginning of that book. I told DD (15) who has read the book if I catch her in the pantry snarfing down the chocolate chips (it's a scene from the book) she's going to be sorry I just finished that book, right before the virus picked up speed. It was so scary to me. So much of it seemed believable. HAH! Little did I know that a couple of weeks later we'd be living in a dystopian future. Oh, and I totally get the chocolate chips reference!

I wonder if we are getting ahead of it or if we are really too late. I like to think we are getting a head of it. Schools all around us are closed for either 2 weeks or longer. Our neighboring school district is not closing and we aren't sure why. I also think more people have it that don't realize or will ever realize they are a carrier. My day to day won't change. I work in an office with 2 others. Right now we aren't planning on closing. We don't necessarily have walk ins. My kids will be doing virtual learning. DH's job isn't on that can be done from home (he's a builder). My biggest fear is the economic impact on so many. do they maybe have spring break this week? Ds's district has closed because they started spring break on Thursday. I expect them to close the week after No, their break starts next week. After I posted this, there was a message that went out that they have reconsidered. So they will close starting this week.

Maybe ask what they need and drop it off. My mother is 82 and I will not be visiting her. I would not want to be a carrier and pass this virus to her. We’ve asked her to stay in her home, alone, and not go out or visit with friends. Yes, that will suck and I will worry about her. But I will worry less knowing that I stayed away and didn’t possibly unknowingly infect her.

Even as a SAHM, with kids that go to online school, it's weird. People are talking about things to do during the downtime. It's pretty much life as normal here. Except it's not. We're doing normal things, DH is working from home which he only did occasionally, but before you knew you could just run to the store or go out or something if you wanted. Now you can't, well, shouldn't unless you really need something. When I was out on Friday at the grocery for fruits and veggies, I'd hold my breath when I walk pass people, didn't even realize I was doing it, crazy. Everyone was giving more space.

I know they won't understand if we don't go in and spend time with them, but it worries me a lot.
I'll be giving them a call in a while to break it to them that we will leave what they need on the porch.

I do. I feel like I'm living in some alternative reality.
I'm going to work from home all next week, maybe longer. I am not worried about being at home alone, I actually like it. But losing all the routines will be tough. I don't like cooking that much and enjoy eating lunches out during the workday with co-workers. I think that even introvert like me will happy when this is over! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)
People here are encouraged to stay home as much as possible, but I don't think it is enough. I think there will be a lockdown soon just like in Italy and Spain. Even thinking about what it means is weird. And things are weird already -bakery items in the store are already bagged for you, busses don't allow you to use front door, all events are cancelled.

When they left the virus was “just the flu” so they went. I wouldn’t have personally but they did. They still have to fly home now that they are back in Florida. He won’t return to work for two weeks and I’m certain he will be required to visit the medical department for approval to return. I spent over 40 years at this corporation and I’ve never seen this happen, that’s the frightening part. Companies and individuals are taking the virus more seriously than our government.

We just had the results of a community spread testing and there is someone with it who works at a local health center. Unfortunately my non-profit sponsors a free income tax preparation site at this health center with some volunteers working at other sites so we have to probably shut down our site. This has been happening to many other tax sites across the country, so hopefully the government will extend the tax deadline so we can help those we normally serve at a later time without penalty.

Yeah, it seems pretty unreal. Never dreamed it would get to where it currently is. Makes me wonder when things will get better. Since my husband has a flexible work schedule, we are going down to Central Coast and renting a house on the beach. I think it’s the one safe place to travel to and not have to worry too much. Santa Cruz closed all schools. I am originally from Santa Cruz. We are renting a house in the small Central Coast town of Cayucos. I am sure most of the schools have also been canceled in San Luis Obispo County.

I called them for their shopping list and went out and filled it. Drove up there and left it on their doorstop. All is good, and they have promised to stay in the house and to call me if they need anything (even though we are 1.5 hours away, we will make sure they have everything they need).

Yes! I am good with the gathering facts and data stage. Good with the taking action to be prepared stage. But now it is probably the sense of stillness as we wait, that is making me go a little crazy. Almost dizzy, but not. A very unsettled feeling. Just on edge now that I am sitting here waiting. Must.keep.busy. I think this is me. I do good with planning and prepping but now there is really nothing to do but wait and see snd it’s not sitting well with me st all. Yes exactly! I was good making plans and making lists, stocking up. But now I’m just at home, watching the infection rates go up in my city and seeing changes every hour with gyms and bars closing. I just feel a bit ... lost and helpless I think. Not even anxious or scared really because we are healthy and I think we’ll be okay. It’s just surreal sitting at home watching this blight cover the planet. Because I’m a geek and bored I actually started taking data from world meter and started running little data models to feel like I’m “doing” something lol.

I think some of these threads are going to be really interesting to look back on in 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years. I was thinking this exact thing!!

Was just watching Jumanji with the family and was laughing and enjoying it then my mind just floated off to empty streets, empty shelves, people lying in hospital beds and it all felt surreal. It just felt like my memories were of a dream and it couldn’t possibly be true. Like this is happening all over the world and my mind today is just a mess.
