Have you read Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel? Or the 1981 novel The Eyes of Darkness by Dean Koontz where he writes about a virus called Wuhan 400 crossing the globe in about 2020! ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/shocked.jpg.gif) ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Ivm7lm0DayrhoRpwvCeH.jpg) I was thinking of that book the other day, I'm waiting for the conspiracy theorist to come out in droves to link the two and accuse China of creating the virus. Maybe they are doing so already and that is why Trump said it was China's fault. The one in the book was man made and carried to the US by some scientist or other.

I’m still having a hard time wrapping my brain around all of it. The thought of trying to do my job online for the foreseeable future is daunting.

I’m kind of feeling overwhelmed with all the plans I had made that are cancelled. A trip to DC, Disney on Ice, field trips, book clubs, piano lessons, parkour, ninja warrior, drum lessons, art class, museums, a NASCAR race, a NASCSR fan event, Ballet tickets, play tickets, lecture tickets, DH’s work. I love making plans. Now it’s just all gone. I know it’s for a good reason. I am 100% behind the flatten the curve movement and I’m committed to staying home. But I’m allowed to feel sad about it, too. I’m sorry your sad. This sucks, and I’d be bummed about missing out on all that too. Maybe you can do a virtual book club? My friends and are are doing one for this period. Our friend went to the library today and picked up a virtual book club kit. She got all of us the books today, and then we’ll discuss via phone or messenger. If you use google you can do a group video chat which is much more personal and conducive to book club chatter. What is the library package? I’m intrigued and didn’t know libraries offered such a service. Libraries in Toronto are all closed now so it’s probably not an option for me.

I checked their hours and websites and everything indicates staying open as of now. Which is weird. Anywho! Thanks for the tip about the group video chat on google! I actually don’t know how this is going to work. My friend who picked up the kit has the details, and she hasn’t shared that part with us yet. She did say that it was called “virtual book club kit” at our library. No idea if it’s something they always have on hand, or if it’s something they put together preceding our 3 week COVID school shutdown. A lot of small businesses here have put together take home kits for kids and families and it’s pretty awesome! 😁 Another friend just asked how it will work so we should find out soon! 😄

I think you can reserve the book club kit, which has several copies of the book. That way multiple people can get the book at the same time, as opposed to each person requesting the book and possibly having them come in weeks apart.

I feel like something is wrong with me...im stockpiled as usual because we live rural... we have a freezer full of cow n pig... i have cleaning stuff, toilet paper and water...we got a couple bags of ice to throw on top of the freezer meat n the freezer on the fridge in case of power failure... its getting to be tornado season... so flahlights have batteries, storm radio is ready...
But i feel like because the virus isnt in my area... and i dont know anyone...its feels like im on the outside looking in.. not untouchable..but its not directly affecting us yet...
We had spring break this past week and so far all of my grands still start school on Monday... im concerned but not super worried...and maybe by the time I need to start worrying its gonna be too late... i dont know if im being naive or what...
I do think we should be more concerned because i work in a manufacturing plant that does ship and recieve from Mexico China Germany Puerto Rico and Brazil....
We get a lot of visitors from those other plants... and we have a lot of people with 4 5 or 6 weeks vacation who do a lot of foriegn travel... some people just returned from a cruise where no one really asked them anything until they got back to work...a family where 4 members work with us just returned from a 3 week trip to Laos and they flew home thru Korea...
I just think I should be more concerned then I am... and I dont know whats wrong with me...

It's really spooky. I've read too many post-apocalyptic novels and I feel like I'm in one of them... This. I read dystopian novels, and what we are experiencing now is usually how the beginning of these novels start. It's so surreal.

I have a copy and have read and it cannot for the life of me find anything in the book referencing Wuhan-400. It does talk about a crazy virus that spreads but that’s about the end of the similarity. The virus gives people a very very short time to live once they contact it.

The moon changes orbit (not realistic) instead of a virus, and causes the weather to go crazy. The grocery panic, school being canceled, and the being stuck inside (and the fact that it snowed here overnight doesn't help) is almost the beginning of that book. I told DD (15) who has read the book if I catch her in the pantry snarfing down the chocolate chips (it's a scene from the book) she's going to be sorry

This feels exactly like the beginning of that book. Stocking up at the grocery store and then buying a pizza on the way home. Getting books from the library. My kids getting mad I didn’t stock up on sweets.

Yes and no.
My day-to-day isn't going to change a whole lot. I work remotely anyone, for a remote-first company, so pretty much nothing about work is going to be different.
DS is home from school for the foreseeable future, so that will be different but he's 12, so is largely self-sufficient.
So, in a lot of ways, it doesn't feel very real because for me directly, not a lot is different. But obviously things *are* very different.

Having seen the empty shelves at Costco tonight, no doubt it’s happening. At Walmart Thurs. seeing the aisles were bare was eye opening!

There's a song from Rent, more of a little interlude when Mark is at a support group meeting, but one line of lyrics has been running through my head for a while now:
Will I wake tomorrow from this nightmare?

I’m an anxious mess. This is so unlike me; usually I’m very level-headed. I changed jobs in December and I am not able to take any leave yet and really have none to take. I just want to be at home with my people. Hang in there, think about what you CAN control and make time to do something for YOURSELF and your mental health every day...for 5 minutes even. I relate as I'm always calm but I feel just the opposite and the feeling isn't going away for me like it usually does. I know I need to change my mental state.

I look at the empty streets in Italy and Spain and how their governments have closed all non essential stores and I I can see this happening to us as well.

I wonder if we are getting ahead of it or if we are really too late. I like to think we are getting a head of it. Schools all around us are closed for either 2 weeks or longer. Our neighboring school district is not closing and we aren't sure why. I also think more people have it that don't realize or will ever realize they are a carrier.
My day to day won't change. I work in an office with 2 others. Right now we aren't planning on closing. We don't necessarily have walk ins. My kids will be doing virtual learning. DH's job isn't on that can be done from home (he's a builder).
My biggest fear is the economic impact on so many.

I was just thinking about couples who have weddings scheduled for the next couple of months, and what will they do? I was just texting with a girl due to get married on 4/25. She is considering canceling the reception, well, actually putting it off. Her venue will not refund their down payment, only allow them to change the date. That is their policy now. Hoping things work out for her.

I was kinda “ho him, we won’t really be affected inconvenienced too badly” until I went to the stores and saw everything wiped out.
It was surreal.
We’re properly set up now.
We don’t think hubby will be required to stay home (because of what he does).

I am most worried about my elderly Mom. She has been staying home as she can't currently drive because she is waiting to be scheduled for back surgery. We do have friends who were on the Grand Princess cruise and are now quarantined at Travis Air Force Base here in Northern California. And the non-profit I work for runs our county's 2-1-1 information and referral, so those program people have been on conference calls for days and they report some of the details to us. It's been pretty unsettling to say the least. I brought my work home yesterday just in case we can't go back on Monday.

I keep thinking this is literally how it feels in the days before a predicted major hurricane. The forecast is there, but the weather outside is beautiful so it’s hard to focus on preparations (the calm before the storm), people are debating the strength or even potential landfall, and you have to discern for yourself what’s going to happen for hype to prediction to hyperbole. Then you hunker down and wait and stress and wait some more...and then maybe it’s fine or maybe it’s catastrophic or maybe it’s medium problematic expensive and headache level. Corona Virus is a slow speed, global, natural disaster. Yes! I am good with the gathering facts and data stage. Good with the taking action to be prepared stage. But now it is probably the sense of stillness as we wait, that is making me go a little crazy. Almost dizzy, but not. A very unsettled feeling. Just on edge now that I am sitting here waiting. Must.keep.busy. I think this is me. I do good with planning and prepping but now there is really nothing to do but wait and see snd it’s not sitting well with me st all.
