I'm talking about the jury duty lottery. I'm 42 and just got my 14th summons. Seriously. I've had both Federal and State - twice they overlapped and they don't cancel each other out! I have served, and made it into the box and been dismissed. Yes, I've heard they call teachers all the time. Of all my teacher friends, only one other one has been called...once. I've postponed serving, it did nothing. It takes two hours to create sub plans because I have so many special needs in my general ed class. Multiply that by the 5 days I call in and have to have plans just in case...well, I'm not thrilled.
So, does anyone have an awesome jury duty story that will turn my frown upside down on being picked...again?

Not me, I've been summoned exactly twice in the 20 years I have been eligible. The first time I sat there for a while and then they sent us home because the defendant didn't show up. The second time I think I didn't have to report.

I'm 42 and have never had jury duty. DH has had jury duty many times...I'm guessing at least 6 times. My MIL is like a jury duty pro...she may have you beat.

I so badly want to sit on a jury. I am a teacher and would love to do it for the learning experience.
I can't get put on a jury to save my life.

You can defer until summer.

I've only had to call in for one day. If I am not in the pool for my specific day, then I don't serve.

I was summoned for the first time this summer. I'm 49. I was selected to the jury. it was fascinating. Medical malpractice that lasted 6 days and we deliberated 2 hours. I can't be called (for the county) for three years. my husband has been summoned in every state we have lived. my son was summoned a few years out of high school. don't know why it took so long for me.

You can defer until summer. I've done that before and thought I'd just do that now. These summons say I can only defer for six months...so we'd still be in school. Good try!

I've been called 4 times, but never actually had to serve on a jury. I was called once for a federal jury and had to call in every day for one month, but never had to report.

I'd be ALL OVER that, but I bet they wouldn't want me since I'm a nurse, haha. Otherwise, I don't mind one bit that I've never had to sit on a jury. I got a notice only once, ever, and when I called they didn't need me.

I have been called twice, in the last 10 years. Sat on my first jury this past August. MIL, has been called and served several times. I am not sure how many times, but I think you have her beat.

I am a winner annually. A couple years ago I got twice in 9 months to which I promptly supplied prior service docs and got it pushed back to just beyond the year mark. My DH? Never called. Annoying.
I am not a teacher. Financial exec. Most of the time I am bounced if in the box bc defense considers me too analytical. Is a collassal waste of time. I actually enjoy the process but I hate the inefficiencies.

I used to get called into county court once a year. When they started calling people using not only voter registration but also driver's license, getting called slowed WAY down. I think I have only been called once or maybe twice in the last 15ish years. I have also been called to city court a couple of times. City court is really boring cases. That is neighbors pissed at neighbors and things like that. I have never served on a jury.

I was called once 10 years ago for a federal case. The guy pled guilty and we were dismissed. I'm another loon who would LOVE to get called all the time and to serve on a jury!
I'm thinking that I'm 33 and it's probably just not in the cards for me.

Twice called. Served on jury once in thirty years of eligibility. Fascinating.
My dad is no longer alive to ask, but he was called a LOT. And served on many juries ranging from short cases to multi day cases. They finally stopped calling when he hobbled in with his walker doing the Parkinson's shuffle at age 78. He no longer drove.. My sister had to take the day off to drive him the 20 miles to the courthouse. They would not excuse him in advance. He served on one case that day but did not get called again before he died at 80.
So, I bet he had you beat but you have many more years left.

I would love to serve on a jury but as I am a (voluntary) Appropriate Adult for the Police I don`t think it will happen.

I get called every three years, like clockwork. Starting when I was 18 -- I got called to jury duty in the city where I went to college (not even in my home state where I was registered to vote.) But I've only been called 11 times.
I've never actually gotten to be on a jury. I'm always dismissed. But I'd be good at giving jury room tours for every courthouse in two counties.
My husband was called when he was in the hospital. I kept trying to get it cancelled, and they gave me a hard time. I kept telling them he was in an isolation room for a month and couldn't have contact with the public for an indefinite period of at least 6 months after that. They kept telling me he could postpone for 6 months. I didn't think that being trapped in a roomful of strangers for a day would be a good idea when even his family had to wear gloves to touch him!

I have never been called (48 years old). My husband has been called twice in the last 10 years and none before then. He served on a grand jury the first time that was active for 6 months (or was it 3? - now I don't remember), but he only had to go in every other Wednesday during that time. The 2nd time he got called he was there for about 15 minutes and they didn't need him.
My son who was 19 or 20 at the time got summoned, but he was out of state at the time serving an LDS mission, so he was excused.
My daughter who is 23 got called this summer and was supposed to serve in August, but she was heading to go to school out of town the 2nd week of August, so they let her off, too.
Here, your duty is a full month. You call into a recorded greeting every week (everyone is assigned a number) on Sunday night to see if your number is called for that week. I think if you have served once during the month then they don't call you again that month, though.

My very first jury duty summons was a Federal Grand Jury with an 18 month appointment. I went 1-3 days each month, was paid $40 a day (less than minimum wage) and spent countless hours listening to indictments on illegal immigrants, federal gun and drug charges, etc.
At first I was so pissed that I had to do this because I was a medical worker and being out that much was a burden on my patient care load. However, by the end, I realized who much I learned and I used the "extra" money for vacation spending!

I have one now for November. I have only been called one other time (I am 45). That time I just had to call in and didn't have to go. This time I have to call on November one and we will see what happens. To be honest I would love to actually go to one but I am nervous about one silly thing. TMI ahead..... I pee every hour and it could be bad sitting on a jury lol.

I had a teacher in high school who got called every time she was eligible. She was tired of it. I think I've been called 3 or 4 times, but have never even been interviewed for a jury. Dh served on a 2 day trial regarding an auto accident. He said it was interesting.

I'm 26 and I have been summoned twice for county court and once for federal court. I was able to defer county court both times but I had to go in for one day in federal court. I made it all the way to the courtroom but I wasn't picked for the jury.
I have renewed my driver's license in the last year so I think a summons will come soon.
