We are meeting my DS and BIL half way to get him home from school. It might mean a night in a hotel. DH is not worried too much about Covid, but I am at the opposite end of worrying.

Own cleaning supplies or not, you cannot wipe down the mattress or bedspread, the carpet, or any other fabric. You can’t control the guests either or the staff.
My birthday is Saturday and I’m super sad but we canceled our reservations. They are the germiest places on a good day. No way we’re chancing it.

We just sat in on a virtual town hall with some drs whose children attend our school. One was a GP, and another is an ER doc. Both said that the virus can survive for a time on the surfaces of things (though neither gave a time frame). Even if you clean the dresser, table, and entire bathroom, and bring your own sheets and pillows, it could still be present on the walls and the floor and the mattress. The risk to me at this time is too great.

I would take any precautions you need to take, but totally understand needing to get your ds.

They are the germiest places on a good day. No way we’re chancing it. Ditto Clean Hotels have germs. IMO national company owned hotels that have and enforce their own standards are better with cleanliness than franchised chains. Unless you know of a well kept fastidious independent place, if you know of one those are the best, but they are few & far between. I will personally never stay in a franchised chain again. Legally I can’t post why but trust me my concern is valid.

I don’t think hotels are fairly clean as far as anything is concerned. I’m sorry there are no good options to bring your son home from school. Can you drive straight through and switch drivers?

That is going to be my plan, drive straight thru. Thanks for the input. Crazy times we are living in.

Good luck OP. I'm sorry that your son is far enough that this is an issue. We can only do what we can do. If you need to sleep, you need to sleep. Take the precautions you can. Not sure how far you need to go, but driving sleep deprived isn't exactly safe either.

I just got back from vacation last Thursday. Plane. Hotels. Rental car, shuttle bus, concert in huge indoor arena, trolly, multiple tour busses, bars, restaurants. If I had known when I left what I know now, I'd have cancelled. But we had a great time and at least New Orleans isn't seething with the virus - but I'm sure all the germs from Mardi Gras were still there even though we got there after it was over.
But as far as your trip Edie3, I know Walmart and Kmart allow you to sleep in their parking lots if you need to. You can nap there safely in case of fatigue.
