I work at a doctor’s office with an elderly population and I am shocked at the resistance we had to cancelling follow up appointments that were scheduled for this week. Our office is in a hospital w/ strict parameters for entering. Please talk to your parents and emphasize they should not be going out anywhere right now. Our doctors are available to speak by phone, refill meds, etc. but they are demandding to be seen for non urgent reasons. They are the population most in danger but not adhering to the guidelines.

oh yes, I have had this conversation with the old people. They still don’t seem to get it. Hopefully if the doctor’s office itself cancels tomorrow’s dermatologist appointment, they will accept that peacefully. I also told them to cancel their hair appointments, but I don’t see that happening.

I am old and you couldn't blast me out of my house with dynamite. I am frankly sick of hearing about the stupid old AND young people who are still going out and exposing themselves and others. At this point let them, and cull the herd of stupid people.

Mother just can't remember. We talk about the virus every day and she gets it at the time. The next day (or hour) she doesn't remember why church was cancelled or DH has to go through the drive through to get her beloved fast food rather than dining in. Any day now she will ask when we are going on vacation.
I don't have to worry about her going to doctor appointments though. She is all caught up for the next couple of months and she despises to go to the doctor. Unless she gets sick that at least won't be somewhere she wants to go.

My 89 year old mother insists she's going grocery shopping tomorrow. Told he we could go for her and nope, its just down the street. What do you absolutely have to have that you can't live without? I used the last of the potatoes. Oh lordy. This is going to be very hard on her as she gets stir crazy if she has to stay in the house for more than one day.

Well, here is what I saw today..Many of them don't get it. It's way overblown, it's not a big deal. They don't get why they are closing schools. Kids arent affected, they don't get a lot of the precautions being taken, so they thing it's all overkill. ORR the other group is thinking, oh, well, if I get it, I get it. It's my time. Then were are the It's a hoax theory. ....that the whole world is in on Gladys??!!

I'm feeling a little bit reassured. She told me today that her church instructed all its parishioners over 60yo not to attend Mass for the next few weeks, and she's agreeing to stay put. I'm not sure whether she has the groceries she'll need like she says she does, but my sister lives nearby and could drop off food if she needs it. Mom is 88. I pray she stays healthy for a long while to come.

Anyone else hear on the national news this evening that the people that are the most sick and testing positive are those under the age of 50? Because I heard it on ABC News they’re trying to figure out why. My mom is 82 and lives right next-door and I know she’s not going anywhere because she’s told me she isn’t. Although she did tell me she might get in a car roll the windows down and go take a ride which is fine as long as she doesn’t get out of the car.

Yes! I have told my parents to get what they need, but try to stock up so they can avoid the stores (started telling them on Thurs.) They have a big basement pantry and 2 refrigerators, so they can stock up. They say they are wearing gloves and using hand sanitizer/washing their hands, so that it's fine for them to go to the stores! We live 5 hrs. away, or I would be shopping for them.
My inlaws live three hrs. away, but have an apt. 30 min. from us also. So I asked them if they were told to stop volunteering at the hospital near them (they are Spanish translators). She said no they would still go! Then they drove out to their apt. on Thurs. to go to a concert on Sunday (cancelled). They went to church on Sunday, then stopped at a restaurant on their way home.
So my parents and in-laws (ages 76-80) aren't taking it as seriously as they probably should.

My boss lives in a small town in Nebraska. He said they don't talk about it there and schools haven't been cancelled. I asked if they had toilet paper in the stores. Plenty. I told him to get out there and get the staples because it is headed his way. They have five girls in the house and TP will be a necessity.

I found out today that my 91-year-old grandfather snuck out this week to go feed the old people at the senior center and then ran to Aldi because he needed a few things. I'm so sad and frustrated. I fussed at him and my dad talked to him and my aunt called to tell my dad that we needed to be nicer to him, that this might not be a big deal at all.

Yes, it's many young people as well! Yeah, they are all gathering at the bars. I'm so glad they shut down restaurants and bars in our state. St. Patrick's Day is a big deal here, and that would be awful with so many careless people gathering together and drinking.

We have offices in 106 areas (almost all 50 states) and many of them are losing people because of the school closures. Last Thursday our national office went to everyone working from home and he thought that seemed extreme at the time. The next day the office said closed and to work from home until further notice. He just said that the disconnect from his little town to the rest of the US was extreme.

Unfortunately, I will not be talking to my mom. She's been posting stuff all over social media that this is all being blown out of proportion. She's still going to work(which I do not blame her at all). She's stubborn and I'd probably get farther talking to a shoe.

I live in Nebraska and tons of schools are closed. Most of the colleges are closed here too or are in the process of closing. They've also shut down all state school competitions, such as speech, FBLA, FLA, etc. Churches are closed, stores have cut their hours. Movie theaters, libraries, gyms, and many other things have closed. Both zoos are closed. The governor has had several press conferences about this. I don't believe this for a minute. Oh, and toilet paper is hard to find.

I know he's been dealing with an avalanche of work related meetings (all weekend), so I filled him in.

My father was one of the 'it's a hoax' people earlier on, but I they've come around. They canceled their trip to Arizona at the end of this week.
I have just learned through my sister that my mom has started a cold w/a low grade fever today. I'm really very scared right now.

I'm concerned that these conversations start to tend toward bashing the elderly (NOT handslapping anybody, esp the OP, because it IS a concern for sure) so I am going to say that my mother is very aware of the risks and she and my medically fragile dad are staying inside. I feel concerned that she will get depressed because they don't get out much anyway and being deprived of her few outlets and being cooped up with my dad will be hard. I can't spend time with my folks because I'm nine hours away and in quarantine myself. :-( I think for some older folks who don't have a ton of activity and interaction in their lives, being told to isolate from the things they do enjoy is too upsetting, even for their health's sake.
Meanwhile my 47 year old SIL was screaming on FB about kids' sporting events being closed down for "the flu," so you know, aggravating people come in all ages. Lol.

More Republicans than Democrats will die because of right-wing coronavirus lies: conservative columnistPublished 9 hours ago on March 15, 2020 By Tom Boggioni Appearing on MSNBC’s “AM Joy” on Sunday morning, conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin said the daily drumbeat of misinformation coming from the White House and Fox News that has downplayed the coronavirus pandemic will likely lead to more deaths among Republicans than Democrats. Speaking with host Joy Reid, after watching a clip of a Trump supporter calling the pandemic a Democratic hoax, the former Republican said that the president’s earlier downplaying of the health threat has put some of his biggest boosters at risk. Speaking about Fox News, Rubin offered, “Here is a particular cruelty/irony that it is their core viewers, the Republican older viewers, who are the most at risk. And when you think about it, which party immediately canceled all of their rallies? Which party immediately started having their political figures really portray and use their lies as an example? It was the Democrats.” “So, I hate to put it this way, but there will be less Democrat deaths because there will be less mass gatherings, there will be less opportunities for people to congregate and share this horrible disease. So it is really a very short-sighted strategy,” she warned. ** www.rawstory.com/2020/03/more-republicans-than-democrats-will-die-because-of-right-wing-coronavirus-lies-conservative-columnist/youtu.be/VeIsb5V5dCU
