I just got an email from the head of Tuesday Morning stores stating they will remain open. I sent them an email stating if they really cared cabout their employees, they would close and pay them for regularly scheduled shifts. I will remember which retailers do so, like DSW, and that is where I will shop when this is over. Screenshot_20200317-161443_Xfinity Connect by Mikk Lynn, on Flickr

Good for you! I've never been to one (I don't they have them here) but of all the stores to stay open, this one seems like it belongs on the "not necessary" list. Sheesh.

Is Tuesday Morning just a mixed discount store like TJ Maxx and Marshall's? If so, yeah it doesn't need to be open.

I know Bath & Body Works and Nordstrom are closing for the duration, but I haven’t heard of any other non-essential stores in my area that are doing so. I really think it’s going to take an order from the governors or the president to shut them all for now.

I got that message and thought at least they are limiting the hours quite a bit. I kinda look at it like that some of those employees need their checks and don't care if they have to work. It's a hard thing to do I am sure. I am not going to start boycotting and getting mad, as everyone is doing the best they can. Some will make better decisions than others. All in all we are all in this together.

All in all we are all in this together. Exactly. Not everyone can just take off for an unknown amount of time. I think a lot of people here forget that. That there are a huge percentage of Americans living hand to mouth. My community is still very busy, because it’s a lower wage area with factories and fast food. The food places have went to drive through and curbside only but the factories will not be shutting down. Guarantee it.

Here is one that I disagreed on, not that I got mad but thought it was unnecessary.
"Join us for our Grand Opening" "Friday 3/20 to 3/22" "Christopher and Banks" "Meet our stylists, check out our new fashion" "See our promotions"
This is silly right now. This can wait. Why even open up? It's not like anyone has even started yet except for some training maybe. It's not open now, keep it closed.
I am still not 'mad' or whatever, but this one made me really think, really? Grand Opening? Now?

Box Lunch, Hot Topic and what ever other stores they own are closing and paying their employees. Disney Stores closed too. Powell’s Books in Portland shut down too.

It would really, really suck to have been working on opening a new store of any kind and have everything planned out and then have this happen. I can’t even imagine how stressful that would be especially if employees were hired, etc. only to have to tell them not to come in.

I am happy with the ones that not only have closed but are still paying their employees (taking about you, Nordstrom and Sephora!). They both still have online open but still better than retail shopping.

We have Tuesday Morning stores in my area (East of Seattle)...but, I don’t think visiting one is worth the toll (time or money).

It's so hard to define whether some businesses are "essential" or not. Tuesday Morning, definitely not. But what about hardware stores? If your toilet breaks and you need to fix it, that's pretty essential.

I was wondering if Hobby Lobby was open. Then my sane mind took over and told me to stay put.
With all this time I can think of lots of craft supplies I NEED. I looked at the list of stuff that are considered necessary, craft supplies wasn’t on it.

I have one that is closing, not by choice but it is Regal Theaters. Word on the street is that they are laying off all their employees so they don't have to pay them. They are supposedly offering the general managers work at a reduced rate to keep things in tact as they are closed. Not sure what all that involves but they should be paid their regular rate which is not all that much anyhow.. Now if this is all true, that is pure b.s.. My son's have friends that they made over the years working at the theaters and still keep in touch. I seldom frequent Regal but I can guarantee that they will be on my never list if this is true.
I have received notices from both Hobby Lobby and Joanns stating that they will be remaining open. I don't recall seeing one for Michaels but I know they are open still because I see it when I go to the grocery store.

Sorry, but I live in a Shelter in Place county and it is only essential businesses that will remain open. We may be only 6 counties under this order, but many more will be following (hopefully sooner rather than later). They'll be closed in a few days at most.
ETA: The hardware stores have remained open @queenofsloths

WHBM is doing reduced hours. Because, fashion? /s
Joann is still open I think, and Hobby Lobby, in my town anyway.

If your toilet breaks and you need to fix it, that's pretty essential. hardware/home improvement stores were included on the list that’s allowed to stay open in the S.F. Bay Area for the moment. Along with groceries, pharmacies, gas stations, laundry services, veterinarians, and a few others. And of course medical, first responders, etc. And restaurants for drive-thru, pick-up, or delivery. I agree they should stay open. Hardware supplies can become “essential” in a flash.

My husband ordered the parts he needs online, but you gotta have the hardware stores, too. I'm so grateful he can fix it himself!

Pet Stores should be considered essential too. Does anyone know if they are?
Hobby Lobby is not.
I think AMC are shutting down too,

Somewhere online I read that Amazon is only shipping "essential" items - TP, cleansers, etc.
I had to drive past ours today and it was open.

Pet Stores should be considered essential too. Does anyone know if they are? Hobby Lobby is not. I think AMC are shutting down too, Pet supply stores are not on the list to stay open here. But our big supermarkets have a pretty good selection of regular and specialty pet food and supplies. So there’s that.

I was wondering if Hobby Lobby was open. I had to go into my office to pick up a keyboard, I drove past Hobby Lobby and they were open. I’m guessing they’re still in the “hoax” phase.

I think many of us have more than enough crafts supplies to last for the duration and more! I drove past Hobby Lobby and they were open. I’m guessing they’re still in the “hoax” phase. I was going to post this also!

I'm fine with that. Although, I am waiting for an Easter stamp so I can make cards, lol.

BTW, DD was just laid off from her accounting position for a local retailer. I am totally sympathetic to those losing their jobs.

Yeah, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and JoAnn’s are all still open here and they keep sending me emails telling me about all the stuff they have “to keep the kids busy” while they’re out of school. Yeah, no. My kid still has Snap Circuits and LEGO sets she hasn’t even looked at since Christmas, and art supplies she hasn’t even thought about using that she got for her birthday last year (and she’s an artist). That’s probably the dead last place I would “need” to go.

I think there will be a tipping point, where keeping the store open will cost more than they are bringing in. Unless governments order the closures, that’s the only thing that will make stores close. I feel so bad for the staff.
