I've never made a sponge cake nor a roll cake but I want to! SO's birthday is this Saturday and he doesn't want a traditional cake. He'd rather have something like a strawberry shortcake. Since it's for his birthday I don't want normal strawberry shortcake I would rather make him a roll cake. So I need a recipe for Vanilla Sponge roll cake and Whipped Cream cheese filling for it. I'm asking the "refupeas" because random recipes on the internet scare me lol

When I made the pumpkin roll at Thanksgiving I needed a linen cloth to roll it in - hence pumpkin roll. I'm only guessing you'll need some type of towel. I couldn't find the dish clothes that others had used.

Here's a recipe - this is the traditional version, filled with jam (jelly), but you could fill with strawberries. www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/swiss-rollfyi...caster sugar is finely ground regular white sugar (not powdered sugar). Since moving to the US, I've never used anything but regular white sugar when I bake, and it all works out perfectly. You could dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar.

My very first roll cake. Vanilla cake, whipped cream cheese filling with strawberries. It was very YUMMY.
