Waiting to hear the update. The hospital is trying to get as many patients discharged as they can. DH would have to come home and continue his IV antibiotics for weeks. A home-health-nurse would have to come asap and teach me how to administer his IV meds into his picc line. All new to me............
Trying to disinfect our home and get ready. Waiting for the VA to let me know when I could pick up a new blood pressure monitor (ours broke). All I really want to do is to sleep now because I know I won't be getting rest soon! Still, I'm thrilled that he's stable enough to come home.
Thank you all for your prayers and support. xo

my dh was home for a while with a pic line and antibiotics. it was easy.. just a few series of steps. he managed it on his own. the nurse came by once a week to check. and he felt so much better being at home and back to normal sort of. prayers for you.. in our situation, it wasn't such a big deal as some procedures we had to do at home. (wound care!!!)

It's really not difficult at all. You can call the homecare company anytime you need assistance. I'm also sending you a PM with my contact info. I have had a PICC for years, and I'm a nurse, so I can help you if you can't get hold of anyone and I'd be glad to do so. Anyday, anytime. I mean that.

I have a fear of needles, etc. (stupid, I know!!), so I wasn't looking forward to it. I could help him with everything else including his cath, but this? Ughhh! I don't want to make a mistake!
Hoping I get a blood pressure monitor, stat, because I have to check his stats throughout the day.......... I'll be lost without one!

When my husband was on home IV antibiotics, they weren’t needles, everything were connectors that pushed into each other.

That is a great update! If it will help try taking pictures or videos if what the nurse says or does. There may even be you tube videos out there.

Great news! There aren't any needles. Syringes screw on a hub at the end of his line. It's a leur lock system. Home health RN should do his dressing change weekly.

Of all the people out there, I have full confidence that you can do this. You are amazing and I'm sure many, myself included, would be lucky to have you caring for us if we were sent home.

When my husband was on home IV antibiotics, they weren’t needles, everything were connectors that pushed into each other. This was our experience as well. The home health nurse came by once a week to change out the connectors and clean around it. We also were able to call if there were any problems. At one point it seemed blocked but all that was needed was for hubby to sit up straight and raise his arm a bit. The picc line went all the way up into his chest and was being pinched. He too was septic and had to stay in the hospital for ten days before they let him come home. I was nervous at first but got the hang of it. Everyone involved was so helpful and nice. They provided every bit of supplies I needed including gloves and hand sanitizer.

I have had 2 PICC lines and administered my own anti-b's. It's really easy. If I can do it you can easily do it. The main thing is to keep the area sterile. Your nurses at the hopital will train you. It's easy. Then you'll have a home health nurse who will come to check your dh's line and make sure that it's staying where it was implanted. They measure it. I promise it's a lot easier than you think.

Great news! The hospital is a terrible place to be sick - and you can magnify that x100 these days. God bless you both!
