My Amazon orders have been delayed for staples as being out of stock/unavailable, I ordered on March 11th and they are slowly trickling in-yesterday, I received 2 cans of soup in one box, vitamins in another, and cereal in another! (And they were all one order arriving separately.

I would go in person if you can. The thing to remember is that they're just going to fulfill exactly what you have (perhaps a slight variation on size or brand) but in reality if you got there and they were out of spaghetti you would probably just buy linguine instead....they're not going to make that change on the fly, they'll just say they're out of spaghetti. I've given up on pick up right now, figure I can brave the store every 7-10 days and hope for the best (yes, we have more than 10 days worth of food but as long as we're healthy we don't want to dip too deep into our reserves b/c what if at some point we aren't healthy and need those reserves). My experience with Fred Meyer (Kroger) and Insta Cart is that they will ask if you want to make a change like that.

I've never used a delivery or pickup service or what not, so am not familiar with that. And I haven't been to the store since last Monday, but I went at opening and it was fine. My store, which a lot of them now, have set limits on popular items, so I think it's better now. I know you said you weren't ordering anything crazy, but everything you names are the most popular basic items and things I keep seeing are low when people go to store. Especially ground beef and chicken breasts, I wasn't able to get those even 2 weeks ago.
As long as you aren't compromised, I would say visit store and use wipes, wash hands, etc, if you have disposable gloves, use them.

I normally order my hurricane supplies from Amazon and decided to go ahead and do it early, and have it all now to extend time between grocery trips. And yeah, I've had to make a lot of compromises on items and be very patient with delivery times. Amazon is struggling to keep up. Go in person. I went to HEB for my weekly shop on Monday and the store was pretty well stocked. Not many people there so easy to keep a distance. I had no problem getting fresh produce, meat for DH, wine (!) and other stuff. There was an employee stationed by the carts wiping each handle with a Clorox wipe before he gave the cart to you. Like you, I had placed an online order to be picked up like 8 days before and most of it was showing as out of stock. In the store, those things were generally in stock in some form or fashion. The one thing I still can't get is dishwasher soap, so we may be washing all our dishes by hand by next week, but oh well. That's pretty minor. We've got plenty of time. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) ETA: I did not try for toilet paper so I have no idea about that situation. I did notice that the pasta was pretty well cleaned out. But again, no problem with veggies and fresh meat/fish. . I had the opposite problem and have plenty of dishwasher soap but had to grab dish soap. I got some - just not my preferred kind. Do you need me to drop some dishwasher pods in the mail?

I just got back from local Walmart grocery. Some stuff was really picked over -- bread, flour -- some things in short supply -- bleach, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Vitamin C. What I thought was impressed -- the store was VERY clean -- an employee had emptied a refrigerated chest - was sterilizing it before refilling ... I've never seen that. They had plenty of fresh veggies .... but pretty much nothing was "on sale". I didn't see any increase in prices -- 1 doz egg were still 1.50 (same as 2 weeks ago), yogurt, milk, butter (short supplies on butter) ... still same price.

I’ve been going in once a week to make sure we always have 2-3 weeks of fresh food and a little longer for staples like rice and potatoes.
Our local store had a limit of one pack of everything. Chicken breast only came in a pack of 4, but I need 6 to make one meal for our family. I asked about that and they allowed me two packs. I completely understand why they’re doing it, and they said they’ve had couples coming in trying to clear off the shelves, but were very understanding that I need to feed my family.
Toilet paper is still sparse, I was able to buy the last pack at Walmart yesterday. I bought it because we opened our last pack at home which is when I would normally buy another pack.
Thankfully we had just had a huge cow packed up and in the freezer so we have 1-2 years of beef, plus we have quite a bit of pork meat from that last time, chicken is the only thing we'd run out of quickly. We live in the country, our next door neighbours raise piglets so I know we can easily package our own if it comes to that.

I live in an area that was one of the first be required to self isolate. Days leading up to the order and immediately after, there were lots of empty shelves at the stores as people were panic buying. One week into the order and with limits in place, I can now find quite a few items like eggs, milk, toilet paper and paper towels at Costco IF I shop early enough; however, smaller/independent stores have stocked shelves likely because prices are a bit higher. If you can’t find what you need from the larger chains, try the smaller stores. Also, I’m seeing a lot of posts on Nextdoor and Facebook from people offering to help shop for others so that might be a better option.

I grab extra cart wipes when I go in and use those to grab everything off the shelf. Then I wipe everything down again when I get home, I feel like Monk. We've been Monk-ing it up here, too! But pray, do tell, what are cart wipes?

But pray, do tell, what are cart wipes? They are the wipes they provide at the store to wipe the carts, just thin Lysol type wipes. I grab 4 and don’t touch anything at the store, I use them to wipe the touch screen and pin pad too. Glad I am not the only one Monk-ing it up!

Don’t forget most stores are imposing limits now. I stopped at 1 store yesterday, and you were limited to 1 pack of meat per person. Not 1 chicken or beef, but 1 pack of meat total. While I do understand limits, I have a family of 6, so 1 pk of meat isn’t going to cut it. I did however get a freezer yesterday so now I have more options for things. I have plenty of grocery stores, at least 50 in my local area, but they are just bare right now. Have you tried any of the farms on the outside of your city/town? We have quite a few farms offering home delivery of various meats and eggs. One family owned meat farm had to hire extra staff to help with distribution. The demand for their product is so high. A couple of the local farms are offering produce boxes with home delivery or curbside pickup.

We got an online order at 1pm and 25% were substitutes or not there. So dh and went to the same grocery store the next day at 9:30am and only could not get three things. We each took half the store, had a specific list, brought our own bags to avoid carts. We were in and out in 20 minutes.

I'm seeing the same; I'm delivering soup daily to someone in this area who has COVID and lives at home alone. I'm heartened by the way many people are helping each other right now. It's hard and I feel helpless to do more, but it's great to see what is happening. I shop once a week and wear knit gloves.

Another thing to look for...a lot of our local restaurants are posting on Facebook that they are selling their supplies. They are still open drive-thru and pick up only but business is way down and they are trying to get rid of their perishables. Some are giving them away. Most are selling them. Reasonable prices. At least around here.

Online ordering would be to stressful for me to try to figure out! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I went to the store the second week of March to do the 2 week stock up that they were recommending on our local news. We are trying to conserve much of that 2 week supply as we are saving it for if we are exposed and quarantined.
I think once many of us (in our area) realized the grocery stores would remain open, the panic shopping slowed down. We are trying to go to the grocery store once every one to two weeks. I am the only one going (I have always been a germophobe, so I am used to doing all the things everyone is doing now). Besides Walmart which is low on a lot of supplies, our stores have been stocked well enough. If I can't find what I need it's easy to find a substitute. I have meal plans and alternates in case they don't have what I need for one meal. Our stores aren't too crowded now, I think it was worse during the initial times when everyone was getting their two week supply. We only have one refrigerator, and it's not too big, so we can't fit as much in as I would like. We did get my daughter's tiny college refrigerator as a backup, but it's not very cold.

I was at the store yesterday afternoon. There was so much produce. The store has a general only 2 of any item rule, except produce had no limits except for bagged potatoes. But there was just so much. Lots of milk, lots of eggs, lots of bread. No cleaning products or paper products. And some of the boxed and canned goods were low on stock. But they had the basics. I got 20lbs of skinless boneless chicken breasts for $16. So I felt pretty good about that.

I picked up an order yesterday. My original time slot was 4-5. At 4:10 they changed it to 5-6. At 5ish it went 6-7, then at 6 it went to 7-8. By the time my order was in my car and I got the 5 miles home it was almost 9 pm. I won’t do it again. Most of the stuff was substituted, about 20% they were completely out of.

Our city has closed the Farmer's Market put posted a list of the farms (very close by) that are selling their produce, meat, cheese at "the farm gate". This is great at one person will go with a list from a group of friends and purchase all of the stuff, then we meet up in a parking lot & distance ourselves. The person puts everyone's order in a place beside our cars. The produce is fresh, the price is a bit cheaper, as it is purchased in bulk and there are less people in the local grocery store.

I did my first grocery pickup yesterday and it was easy they subbed out a few things one I rejected the others I was fine with. They were out of a few things but I got bread, milk and eggs. I didn't have meat or paper goods on my order though and I have heard that is almost always out on orders. I also avoided Monday as I know our Walmart on a good week is out of a lot of stuff then. Our order system only opens two days at a time which is weird but kind of nice in a way just order really early in the morning.
Good luck. I am glad that they aren't having orders out so far I would like to know sooner if something is out and then go from there vs hoping for a week and then nope.

At least around here. I was going to suggest the same thing. Or do you have any restaurants by you that have curbside pickup family meal deals? I know it would be more expensive than buying groceries, but some places here are giving large portions and it could give you a few days worth of lunches/dinners and you wouldn't have to cook. Plus, if you pay by phone with a credit card and they bring the food curbside for you, you wouldn't have to have any interaction with anyone, whereas if you go to the grocery store, it is possible there may be a lot of people there.

If you or anyone in your household is compromised then I would say don't go unless absolutely necessary. If no one is compromised then go and just use precautions. I can't go and it's a pain, because I'm the one who does the shopping normally and I would be able to get most everything or substitute. It's a pain, but make do w/what you can.

Even though you placed the order a week ago, they don't reserve the groceries for you at that time. They fill from what is in the store the day of pickup. Just because your store is out of those items now, that doesn't mean they have been out of them for the past week. Our local grocery story inventory vacilates daily and hourly. Have never ordered groceries on line, only scrapbooking supplies. Is it possible to place an order today for delivery today? Does it show the item "in stock" when you put it into your cart? If a sold out message comes up, you can choose an alternative to what you originally wanted.

I am not immunosuppressed. My brother is. He does not live with me, but he lives across the street. And he and his wife are my only human contacts at this point. So I’m trying to isolate so I can still see them. unfortunately, he is not completely isolated, because he still has to go to some doctor appointments and get scans. He just got back right now from a scan.
So I guess I will try to go into the store myself. I will go first thing in the morning when they open. (They are not doing special senior hours. They are delivering free to seniors in our area.)
I had a really hard time finding puppy food. But finally, I just found a bag at a target that’s not too far from me. I already paid for and will pick it up later tonight. It will have to go in the store for that one.

My Aldi's had plenty last week and I went to Sam's today. There is a 1 item limit on 90% of the food. No limits on junk food though. I walked the aisles shopping for us and my mother and did not see any food they were out of.

I would try to shop there when you pick up the dog food. Knock it out in one trip.
