Your stress level goes up when you find that the virus has reached your estate. I live on an estate of about 300 houses and have just found out that a couple round the corner have the virus. My house is on a corner very close to the pavement. The hedge of my garden touches the pavement. It’s a warm day and I want to sit out. People have been constantly walking passed today. My house is obviously on everyone’s exercise route! I’m trying not to lose it right now!

Hang in there joelise ((hugs)) Have you had any contact with them or other neighbours? You said you'd been in self isolation mode for quite a while? How far is there between your hedge and the furthest back you could be? And did you see a girl of 21 with no underlying conditions has died? Poor girl...poor family If this gets much publicity maybe the younger generation will start staying at home at last?

I have measured 2 mtrs from the fence and put string up to stop me going too near the hedge. I still have a bit of room in the garden. I’ve also put all the bins in the garden to stop us from having to keep going in and out. The dog can still get to the hedge, but I’ve blocked the few gaps that he put his nose through. In the last hour there has been at least 20 groups of people walking dogs, pushing babies or jogging. It’s so much busier than normal! We have been self isolating, but DH has been walking the dog passed their house! And I can’t stop him messing about in the front garden! I think finding out about this couple might just have scared him into staying in!

I totally get it. We got a letter on Monday to say one of the residents in my mum’s nursing care facility has tested positive. Knowing it’s that close (dad last visited last Tuesday; he & dh went in on Thursday to be told they’d just closed to visitors) is pretty scary.
Stay safe but try to enjoy your garden too

We had less people walking past our house today except for one set of neighbours - I think they look after their grandchildren and there seems to have been quite a biota coming and going most of the day. But I don't know their situation so... I'm sure your risk is very low from what you've described so try and enjoy he last of the sunshine today

Our estate is surround by a slip road and dual carriageway, with the other side to the village blocked by a nature fence, so we literally have one way onto the estate. It’s 2 minute walk to Tesco. So I think every single person who lives here is walking to shop and then walking for their once a day exercise. All of them passed the house! It’s ten times busier out there than before! I guess it won’t be quite as bad when the weather isn’t as nice. It’s been gorgeous today. DH has got a suntan!

It is very frightening joelise and worrying especially not knowing how they caught it but if you've self isolated as you say then the risk to you and your DH is very small. Try to think of it logically though. It's highly unlikely with minimal risk that your DH would have come into contact with the virus just by passing their front door doing nothing but walking.I'm assuming that he didn't meet them personally or touch their front door for any reason while out on his walk? Same with the people that go pass on the other side of the hedge. Provided you stay the 2 metre distance from that hedge, you then avoid what they deem as close contact with others. I read somewhere that the reason for that is that if someone sneezed or coughs then that is a safe distance from how far the droplets will be spread. So basically one is out of reach for anything to land on you or breath directly at you. Try not to worry and find a safe place in your garden to enjoy the sunshine that we're having at the moment (((hugs)))

But there were suddenly so many people!

We know it's real but it seems more real when it's in our neighbourhood.
Hope you found a spot to catch some sun while avoiding the walkers.

How's it going guys? Another sunny day here today and totally silent on the street. I usually see the same seniors each morning walking by to the corner shop for their newspaper but today - zero activity outside. Seems eerily quiet but on the other hand a little comforting that folks are actually taking this seriously now. Have you all seen this - an amazing initiative and planning - inside the 4000 bed field hospital being buikt at London's Exel Centre

I did see about the hospital @dottyscrapper ! I couldn't believe it when the guy on the news said "2 wards each with 2000 beds"!! And did you see Dyson have been asked to produce 10000 ventilators? I fascinates me that factories can switch their production...I just wish we didn't need them I went to Lidl about 5pm yesterday on the off-chance and it was very quiet and calm! I couldn't wait to get home and wash my hands after touching everything but I pretty much got everything except a fresh loaf that I wanted and fresh veg and fruit were plentiful really. Regarding the over 70s - do you think they're permitted to go out at all? I know they've been told to stay indoor essentially for 3 months but my Mum (Alzheimer's) gets very twitchy and stroppy when she can't go out once a day and is giving my Dad a hard time. Obviously they wouldn't go to the shops or a cafe or anything but what about a little stroll around their local streets (avoiding anyone they come across) or a 10 min drive to an open air beauty spot to at least sit and look out and have a flask of tea? Dad seems to think they 'aren't allowed'.

Dad seems to think they 'aren't allowed'.I might get into trouble for this by someone but here goes I think staying indoors has been taken literally by many people. Yes he did say people over 70 to stay indoor ( in my meaning- at home) but then added a separate caveat that people were allowed to exercise for up to an hour each day on their own OR no more than two but have to be members of their own family. That to me didn't read that everyone else could do this but not the over 70's - he didn't distinguish between anyone. Exercise for people with under lying medical problems such as COPD and heart problems is paramount for their health provided it's done safely.I personally, especially in the case of your mum and dad would say it was OK for them to go out for a short walk - away from other people, cross the road when they see someone coming, a short drive to somewhere quiet would be ideal if there is no where nearer from home etc, you know the score We have to balance what is a sensible precaution to take and the mental and physical well being of very many people in particular older folks. They are more, in my opinion, at risk of other mental and physical illness through the lack of exercise if they stay literally inside their houses.

Just saw something on the news?? A reliable source? I haven't seen anything...off to look a bit further. Sounds unlikely though. I did see a multitude of negative comments on the Sussxes Instgarm page though. They posted the standard advice - wash your hands etc etc - and that was greeted with lots of disparaging comments saying things like...late to the party, like you suddenly care about the UK, etc etc. Not nice!

@dottyscrapper - yes you're right. My Dad is a rule follower and if BJ has said he mustn't go out, he won't want to. However I did just talk to him and said the same thing and he did come round to that idea so hopefully they will go out for a little walk later. At least they have a decent garden and it's sunny at the moment so that's a blessing

I doubt very much that calling it a hoax or a hype would come from Prince William. He visited a medical call centre last week to boost the morale of the workers there. Apart from who he i,s he knows full well what it's like to be working within a stressful environment as he used to be an Air Ambulance rescue pilot.

Was on Good Morning America while they were talking about Prince Charles. It was a video of Prince William. He said " It does seem quite dramatic about coronavirus at the moment. Is it being a little hyped up, do you think, by the media?" www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/03/9605810/prince-william-coronavirus-joke-videoThis was at the beginning of March....just wondering what you all thought?? I think if he said it today--I'd be upset but this was 3 weeks ago

I can only think they are referring to the off the cuff joke that he made to a paramedic when they were touring Ireland at the very beginning of March and said something like _ bet you have a lot of people thinking they have it with every cough they have , do you think the media is hyping it up - - something like that. That is all I can find. God the man is human is he not allowed to make a few jokes in private now or ask the opinion of a professional regarding the media at the time.. It's no different to the laugh thread we've had on here IMO.
