Hello all... Are any of you in a situation where your Gymnastics or Dance studio is asking you to pay for the month of April when the Governor has shut it down (non-essential) for a month? This is normally a once per week class.
I'm honestly struggling with how I feel about this (not knowing if they are still paying their teachers or not as well).
*ETA with more info. In this state, they are able to file for unemployment without a wait time.

All of our memberships like that are suspending payments/charges until things are reopened.
They aren't supplying the service, why would you pay for it?

Nope, I would not be paying.

I am paying all of ours and I am happy to.
There are a lot of small businesses that are a big part of our life and I am happy to contribute so they will still be there when we can go back.

Unless they are offering something in exchange, I wouldn't be making a monthly payment.
I do know dance & yoga studios that are offering classes over Zoom as a way to try cover some expenses during the Stay at Home orders.

My karate studio is adding the days they are closed to the end of our contract. I'm assuming that they'll still autodraft the monthly payment next week. I'm okay with that, as they are a small business struggling, they're providing a ton of online content for us members AND I'm still working and receiving a paycheck. If my situation was different, I would hope they would work with me.
I also didn't cancel my YMCA membership. They do a ton of good for the community and are currently holding childcare for essential employees.

With hockey (which we have already paid for) they will start the season when it is safe to do so. With my husbands hockey league (also already paid for) they will tack the missed games onto the end of the season. Possibly could have some nights where they play double headers. But all the games paid for will be played at a different date.

If I could afford to I’d continue paying; however if my own income was lost I would not be able to.

My gym membership is autobilled to my credit card monthly. $23.00 monthly.
They posted, if anyone is experiencing financial hardship to call the main office and a payment can be skipped.
They posted, that they will add/extend an extra month to everyone's contracts, for those that opt to pay anyways. I am good with that option.

We pretty much only have our gym memberships and we are doing the same. We really want them there in the future and since we can afford to let it ride at this time, we will. We kind of feel it’s our own little part of helping. I totally understand if others cannot though! But my hope is, that those of us who can will and some of our local businesses will survive this.

I would pay if I could. I am not sure what our studios are doing. My daughter is an assistant for all the preschool/level 1 classes as a way of paying for her dance.

I pay my chiropractor a monthly rate for four visits and it’s on autopay. They sent out an email saying as long as members stay on autopay they will make up any visits we might miss between now and the end of May. I’m okay with this. I typically go once a week and in the months with five weeks I end up paying an extra $15 for that month anyway.

Most studios make you sign a contract, they will have make-up classes. And every studio I know of is offering online classes.

Btw, a lot of studios will lose a lot of money, because they are not going to be able to offer summer intensives.

In my house both my DH and I are working for home and still making our full salary, so I would pay them too. If someone has been laid off and not getting paid and you need the money I would probably end up unenrolling the kid.

My daughter is going into the dance studio twice a week to do live classes. It's just her and the owner and I rather enjoy watching them. I even sit outside in my van and this past Monday they were in there over 2 hours but since I have to drive 20 miles one way I have nothing to do but sit in the van and crochet LOL. Now the more advanced classes she is inviting one or two different dancers each week to come learn, and record new choreography. But the for the beginners classes it's my daughter being recorded. I admit I think it's a great experience for her and way out of her comfort zone.

My teen girls dance; it’s a lot of money and a huge chunk out of my budget. We’ve been there since my oldest was 3. The studio owner is doing online classes and zoom classes for now. She has a small business and also a non-profit (for some of the productions) and has bills to pay also. She’s not mentioned anything about tuition and fees, but I’m willing to keep paying as long as I’m able. Im fairly certain all of our spring productions will be canceled, which includes the largest fundraiser of the year for the non-profit. There’s a summer show production, as well as a biannual NYC trip in August. I’m certain she’s devastated with it all.
My gym is city-owned and ran by the parks & rec dept. They’ve not yet suspended payments, but I suspect they will have to.

Both my gym and my dance studio have suspended charges until they can reopen. The gym is a national chain and my dance studio is run by a single woman.
DH and I are still both currently employed, however, we both work for a private aviation company. Things could change quickly for us. I would not be paying if no services are being provided.
We did have our pet sitter booked for a cruise we had planned in June. When we canceled, we paid her half the total fee, which will be applied toward future service. We understand she is hurting right now.

My gym is doing some something, either prorating the monthly payments or extending the time between payments, but I can't remember because it only affects my son's membership of $10/mo (mine is free because I work PT in the kids club).
I would try to keep paying a fee if at all feasible if I really didn't want the business to fold. DH is very afraid for our Little League because he thinks it will fold if there's no season and people want their money back (he's on the board so he knows what's going on behind the scenes).

The school year will be extended for make up classes in most students. The 2 studios my daughter works for has canceled their summer classes for make up classes. And now is the time for auditions for the big summer intensives. With no audition s , no students for camp. My daughter has heard that Cpyb has cancelled their summer program My daughter works studios are not doing anything in the studios because too many of the parents travel for work and most of them are in quarantine.

Both of my daughter's studios have switched to online for the time being. I believe the plan right now is to pay for classes now to get them through this and then if we have to go over to get recitals in, we will not need to pay then.
I'm happy to pay because I want them to still be in business when this is over. One of them hinted around that they might not be able to weather this storm.

That makes sense, Our school is continuing online, or packages. Spring break is this coming week, then we are still out till the 24th. We will not be extending into the summer. Our dance studio is a very small, non competitive type. You know where they go during the school year and have a spring recital at the end. There are some very good dancers in the mix but for most it's a fun past time. Our camps are not very intensive, like a week of "Dolly and me" where the preschoolers bring their dolls and do an hour of ballet basics for an hour each morning. and another week for people to come and try out a different dance style each morning. The one serious camp is for pre pointe.
