I just read this email and I am PEA LIVID!!! We paid for forever access. That was the understanding with every penny I spent with them and I have spent a LOT over the years. I have never had any personal dealings with SC, but so far I am less than impressed.

The video chat could be interesting. I love Stacy, but I don't know how she can put a positive spin on people losing access to the information they've paid for. Nothing good comes from a partnership with SC.

Am I missing something? I'm not sure why anyone would be livid from what I read. We aren't losing anything. We get over three months to download our classes. I'd rather have control over material I paid for anyway, than to count on the site always having it.
Websites often have to change things, I get that. She explains that all the different formats don't work on their new platform, I get that. They are keeping 64 of their classes that do work. All current classes will be on the platform. We get to download the classes that don't go on the new platform - and we get three months notice. I don't see where we are losing any actual product (other than the ability to access them from their website). Seriously, am I reading something wrong?

As I mentioned in the other thread, we are losing content. The amount of information in the form of board posts, blogs, and gallery images is impossible to download. Copying images in the gallery violates the TOU. Even if I could screen capture everything, it will be too cumbersome to actually refer to it all. Part of paying for forever access also meant having the content organized and accessible in an easy to retrieve format. That is all going away. I can also hear Stacy go on and on about "forever access". That was a big part of their selling strategy. I think it completely makes sense that people are angry.

I've also been thinking that I am single, childless, have a decent amount of free time and access to a fast Internet connection. What happens to people who don't have the time to download their material? I think it would make more sense for the company to compile all of the material for one class in a single downloadable file rather than us having to hunt and peck for things.

AAAhhh. Gotcha. I always considered that stuff more of a by-product of the class since it is dependent on people's participation, and never really thought of it as "forever access" material.

I'm curious how often everyone accesses the older supporting materials like message boards and galleries.
I will be honest and say that once the class in complete (or once I complete it - whichever takes longer) I don't really go back to the message boards and galleries. I have redone classes in my own time (such as the stashbusters ones) but I just work by the handouts and videos. Given the sentiments here, it would appear I'm in the minority.

I am glad we got a lot of notice to download the course materials, so I'll do that over the next few weeks. But between this and 2Peas shutting down, I think I am done with purchasing classes from third parties.

I'm not livid but I would be if I wasn't a member here!!! My BPC account uses an email address I rarely check. I might have missed this announcement.
I haven't read the official version yet- but I PAID for "forever" access and fully expected them to honor commitment.
Extremely disappointed and will never buy from BPC or Studio Calico again. Extremely disappointed in Stacy Julian's integrity too, but she's shown her colors before (no pun intended).

After I read the email yesterday I noticed that I'd paid for only two classes (luckily) and they were both by Cathy Zielske. One was "Design Your Life" which I started but haven't finished, and the other was "Ten Tips for Better Type" which for some reason someone got very sick at the time and I didn't start it and figured I'd take later, since I had forever access, right?
Anyway, I know they are moving "Design Your Life" to their new website, but at this point I trust Studio Calico about as far as I can throw them so I figured what can it hurt to write an email to Cathy Zielske and ask her about the possibility of moving these classes to her website. I figured I wouldn't hear from her, but I got an email back the very next day! She said she is planning to find a way to host 10 tips. It will require some time and money on her part to figure out the best way to do that, but that she can give me access to the class via a private password protected site.
I am thrilled to not only have heard from my very favorite scrapbooking teacher so quickly but that she has given me some hope and good news. So if any of your classes are Cathy Z classes that aren't being moved, maybe send her an email. I have always heard good things about her-that she cares about her students and to me this proves it!

I put this response in the SC thread, but thought I'd share it here also:
"I just saw on a thread at BPC a response from April Foster/SC:
Just want to echo that we are listening and we need a few days to evaluate the responses and react.
I hope this means they're coming up with a way to make everyone's classes easily available to them. I don't really have a dog in this fight. I checked my account there and had only paid for 2 classes and I think I had 2-3 free ones. I have no intention of downloading the bought classes. But I sure feel for those that want what they paid for, and the forever access."

This whole thing is just BS. Why can't they archive the old site as a whole entity and continue to allow access? I just upgraded my website and did that exact thing. It was not a big deal at all. I didn't piss off any customers and they still have access to all of their stuff.

I'm glad they at least have a few months notice- but even that it's going to be hard to manage. I have a lot of classes, and a work deadline that zaps any hobbies until January. Not to mention the holidays. In the beginning- and I've taken classes since the beginning- I'd download along the way. But then I stopped because they were always online!
This is going to be a pain.
I wonder if they can consolidate them so it's a single download per class or something?
I am so annoyed.

I feel for all of you that have content that you have to find a way to download or lose. I have several classes that I purchased from SC a long time ago, that they intimated one could always go back to, on their site. I do not think that the terms "forever access" was used, but I will have to sign on and see if those classes are still there...if not, I am certainly glad I downloaded and printed the guide as quickly as I did. Dowloading....Because it works better for me with working on the project, to refer to a guide vs. having to follow along on the computer.
BUT, I do see the concern with interactive classes and losing out on that and all the dialogue and examples that others post.....
I took one class years ago(loser class by someone off 2 peas, ages ago) and I found I did not like the teacher nor the actual content and personally was not worth the $$ I spent to take it, and so I chose to be really particular about taking online classes. And I have only signed up for 2 at SC since then...and never finished the projects...could not get into the project at all....sigh....it is just me.
I seriously hope all of you that bought tons of classes get a solution that works for you. It is your $$$, and your faith in BPC, that made you chose those products, so hopefully you can get a solution that benefits you as a consumer....I personally think they should send a CD out with at least the downloaded directions for each class you purchased and photos or at the very least moderately good directions for how to archive those classes yourselves. Best wishes to all of you!!!!!!!

They said what needed to be said to get us to purchase the classes. I am very disappointed, it's not the right way to do business but I guess they don't care because they are affiliated with SC now so Stacy doesn't need our business anymore. To me, it doesn't matter that Stacy is upset, blah blah blah…what matters is I gave them a lot of money over the years and they aren't doing what they agreed to. If they are so upset about doing this and feel so bad, return my money! I'm so sick of people and companies in general not keeping their word/promises and BPC is now one of them and we are to just scurry and try to get as much of our classes saved as possible. Sad that people in business think this is ok.

I watched Stacy's response video, the one answering questions and extending the access period.
I'm sorry she might be ill, but found her attitude deplorable.
The way she kept referencing her customers as "stressed" or panicked, was condescending.
We are angry consumers! Not dysfunctional hysterics. Being worried about the time to download is a real concern for me this season.- because I am functioning at a high level in the rest of my life! I am not unduly stressed about scrapbooking. It's that I didn't want my "hobby" to create unneeded work.

I don't have any classes with BPC, but I thought their response to make classes available until June of next year, and adding a download button to make saving your classes easier was a good response to the (very valid) customer complaints. It's only too bad they didn't roll out the download button to start with.
