I always have CNN on in the background and have been listening to the coverage since it started. They are saying that the shooter was a student, and he is the one who is dead by a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

I hope the news doesn't say his name. I feel like this is becoming a way for people to become infamous.

I hope the news doesn't say his name. I feel like this is becoming a way for people to become infamous. His name is circulating locally (not via the TV news) and it seems this was over a girl. Several people I work with (large employer) have students at the school.

Seeing all those kids run from the school in fear just makes my heart ache. I remember my high school (Nuernberg American High) had barbed wire, armed guards and getting almost weekly bomb threats called in. When we moved back Stateside I finished my last year of high school and quickly realized the threats were no longer coming from terrorists but from my fellow students. Things seem to have escalated with our next generation. I am going to turn off the news and go hug my sons now.

They just interviewed a boy who knew him. He said that the shooter was Native American and had gotten in a fight a couple of weeks ago after a racist remark.

They just interviewed a boy who knew him. He said that the shooter was Native American and had gotten in a fight a couple of weeks ago after a racist remark. I watched both interviews, he also said that he had broke up with a girl friend but that he had never suspected he wold do something like this. So heartbreaking!! They are confirming two deaths the shooter and one other.

The student interviewed said the name of the (alleged) shooter on air. His name is also on a popular website including a link to his Twitter.

I did not verify this, but read 37 school shootings in the US in 2014 and 76 since Sandy Hook.

87 school shootings since Sandy Hook. This is a huge domestic problem for this country. The rest of the world must look at us and think we are effing insane.

So very sad. My DS and DIL are both teachers. Never would I have thought they could be in harms way if this happened at their schools.

I feel so bad, not only for those injured and their families, also for the family of the shooter. I cannot imagine the sorrow and guilt they are feeling right now.

They have released the name and a photo of the young man. My heart just simply aches for some one with such a beautiful smile thought that this was a solution to whatever is problem was. My heart aches for the children who had to be a witness to the horror. And my hearts is broken for the children who were shot.
It is just so awful.

It's all horrifying, but it was a particularly gut-punching awful feeling to see video of kids with wheelchairs and obvious mobility disabilities trying to leave the school as fast as they could. I can't even imagine how terrifying it would be for kids who have to rely on aides and familiar routines and routes to be faced with all that.

How very sad , highschool students are far too young to die. Marysville is only about 1.5 hours from me.

I lived in Marysville for 3 years when my DH was stationed in Everett. I know a lot of people there. My DS would have been there today if we still lived there. My DD has a friend that still lives there and she knew the shooter and the girl that died. Marysville is a small community. My heart is very heavy today?
