Dr Catherine Calderwood has been heavily criticised for twice visiting her second/holiday home, over an hour's journey away, once with her husband and once with her whole family. Bearing in mind that she is the mouthpiece of the medical advice being given to the public in Scotland with regard to doing everything possible to limit the spread of the virus, including no unnecessary travel, it beggars belief. I gather she's suitably mortified.

Yea, do as I say, not as I do.
She's been more than criticised, she got a Police warning too didn't she?

It's mind boggling how leaders are missing the mark. Do they think we don't see the discrepancy between their words and actions?

I missed the Scottish briefing today but she was next to Sturgeon, answering questions about her behaviour. Apparently Sturgeon had rung her to say The Sun had photos of her. Stupid is as stupid does. If she doesn’t resign soon I bet she will when this is all over. Not only is she on many briefings, she’s on TV a number of times a day telling us what to do in the adverts.

Hard to see how she can hang on really - she's massively reduced the impact of her words.

The public have been vociferous in their condemnation so let’s hope the rest of us continue to stick to the rules as now, surely, is when complacency starts to set in.

She has resigned. I know Sturgeon was saying that her expertise was needed but her position was, justly, untenable. Maybe she can be used in an advisory capacity somehow.

It had to happen - she made her own words meaningless really.

Her behaviour was unbelievable, and it is hard to comprehend how someone in her position could use such bad judgment. The press conference this afternoon seemed to be the modern day equivalent of putting someone in the village stocks. FM was clearly absolutely furious. Did you see how she was constantly grinding her jaw as she listened to the reporter’s questions? I have never seen her so rattled. However, I am concerned that we have now lost her expertise, and vital time will be lost in the coming weeks getting someone else less qualified up to speed.
I’m pretty gutted she’s resigned. Removing herself from the public face of the campaign but remaining in post and advising the FM as she did before seemed sensible to me as there will be no-one else at this point in time who will have her deep knowledge of the current situation and strategy for going forward. I really can’t see how this is best for the country.
What an incredible mess.

That wold seem to have been ideal. Presumably there's a reason that didn't happen...but I hear you. What a ridiculous way to end your career.

At 50 mins, CMO gives her apology, then FMQs follow shortly after. Watch FM’s jaw and the way she scores off the questions from her notes in front of her. She is pretty scary looking when angry. The CMO gives her very sheepish apology, then FM takes questions (almost all the same questions) and gives answers (almost all the same answers) in a very irritated manner. You can almost see the steam coming out her ears. It is the most toe-curling press conference I remember ever seeing. youtu.be/Y5JoPxL9phg
