Our primary doctor's office called me to ask if we'd want a new service that Humana is offering to Covid-compromised people. They really don't want them going out!! They're delivering 14 frozen meals (each) per month. I"ll take it! There have been many nights where I'm too exhausted to cook for DH, so this will be great to have! Good for me too since I haven't been eating too much lately.
So glad they did the right thing (DH is severely immuno-compromised; I just have COPD/asthma, but I qualified too).
If anyone needs it, you should check with your insurance company. This is a wonderful thing they're doing!!

That's awesome as a side note, my local news has been doing stories on the fact that snap cannot be used to do grocery pick up and the government here is looking into it.

We switched to Humana a couple of years ago and have been very satisfied with them. They managed to get me my Hydroxychloroquine via their mail order pharmacy when none of the local pharmacies had an expected restock date, and said that while they can only refill one month at a time instead of 3, they are doing everything possible to make sure that their stock is prioritized for existing patients taking the medication.

WOW, because this is 2peas I read the title in a sarcastic viewpoint. I am ecstatic the insurance reached out to you with this offer. This raises the bar. A few meals a month is cheaper to keep you home and alive then stress the medical community right now.

Some of their plans also have medical supply allowances. You can get things like otc medicine. Also transportation to medical appointments.
Get online and see everything he’s eligible for. Also find out who his case manager is and call them to get everything to make this easier for you. I used to be one of their visit nurses. They’ve mostly gone telephonic now.

From a business perspective, it’s a good thing to do. Not sure why you consider it the “right” thing for them to do.
I’m glad that this goodwill gesture is alleviating some of your stress.

Gosh, it's good to hear something positive about an insurance company cause they are usually such a pain in the butt, and I deal with them often as a Caregiver!!

That's awesome as a side note, my local news has been doing stories on the fact that snap cannot be used to do grocery pick up and the government here is looking into it. Yup, I've been working on that for 2 months now with my local Congressman Gus Bilirakis (Pasco County, FL). He's really trying to get them to change that for now. He WAS trying to include immuno-compromised people into the "seniors only" shopping time too after I made him aware about both dire situations. In the meantime he delivered to us a few bags of groceries! So very sweet and thoughtful and proactive too!!!
I do know that WalMart is the only foodstore that will accept your EBT card for their curbside pickups. Not sure if they'd deliver though.
And I know that now Amazon has included EBT cards as a form of payment for any food item, which is incredible!!!!!!!

Also find out who his case manager is and call them to get everything to make this easier for you. I used to be one of their visit nurses. They’ve mostly gone telephonic now. Yup, they always offered our plan $25/mo for OTC items (you'd have to order it online or via mail). Now they changed it to $75 every 3 mos to limit all of the mail. We just ordered ours yesterday...... DH got a shower chair from them with his OTC allowance in January and it's made a world of difference.
As far as the transportation, I've known for a few years and it's tricky. We both go to Tampa from New Port Richey (really closer to Hudson or Bayonet Point, FL), and it takes up *8* of the trips for one trip back and forth. Also, the car they picked us up in for a pre-surgical appt, was really an old dirty gross taxi. Back then I realized I could never come home in that unless it was dire. We don't go anywhere else right now except to DH's cancer appts. Even my eye surgeon is in Tampa....... But those car rides are great for so many disabled and senior people to get to their primary doctors!
We've been doing all medical appointments (except for Oncology, of course) via Zoom or just the phone, and it's fine. I have some equipment here so I monitor DH's blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar, temp, etc......
DH did have to have a home health R.N. come after he came home from an ICU stay. She had to change his midline dressing a few times, take blood, etc...... and she showed me how to initially do his IV antibiotics (he's all done with that). God bless you being a visiting nurse.
