We are headed to Chicago this week. We will be a few days in the burbs for a conference. Than we will drop off our rental and take the train into the city. We have rented an apartment that is the heart of the city from someone on Airbnb. Thanks to a pea that posted about it. It has great reviews and we decided to take a leap and try something new. The hotels were twice the money and offered less so we wanted to try it. Anyway, we have reservations at Table Fifty Two for brunch one day and another day we have reservations at Girl and The Goat. I have a list of restaurants so I think we are good on that end for the most part.
We went to Chicago about 7 years ago and did a lot of the tourist type stuff and loved the city. This time we don't want to go at as fast of pace as we did the first time but want to hit a few things we didn't do. We did the views from John Hancock, Millennium Park, Navy Pier, some shopping, an architecture boat tour, fire works at Navy Pier (we were there in the summer) and a couple other things I am sure I am forgetting. This time it will be cooler than before. The aquarium doesn't interest us. If we had kids with us we would go but just not our thing for just the 2 of us.
Do you have any suggestions that you think are not to be missed? Thank you!

Plays are great to see. If you don't like anything downtown, try Million Dollar Quartet. It is in Lincoln Park. About a $20 cab ride, but it is a great musical and reasonable. If you go, get the tickets with obstructed view. They are cheaper and you can move your seat right before the play starts. I've seen it 3 times and it has never been full.
Lincoln Park Zoo is wonderful to relax and walk around if the weather is nice. It is free to get in and the arboretum is right there also.

Walk through the lobby of the Palmer Hotel and check it out. It is $$$ but interesting to me to see how an old monied hotel is set up. It was a long time ago when I visited Chicago, so I hope it is still as plush looking as it was then.
I took a Grey line tour to see the south side of Chicago and then a Grey line tour of the "Gold coast" area. The boat tour that goes up in the canal is neat for seeing the buildings.
I loved the Science/History museum.

I know you said you are set with restaurants but Siena Tavern (Fabio's restaurant (Top Chef)) is a must go. The food was fantastic. If you like margaritas, HUB51 has great ones. Both restaurants are in River North.
I also second Eataly. Be prepared for crowds but it was so cool. We only had a few minutes to spend in there but we could have spent a few hours.

I love going to Second City! Definitely worth it and I'd get reserved seats on the rail (maybe $20 extra?). No need to line up early with them and you will not have someone blocking your view. Food walking tours are a great way to get out into a neighborhood. I'd recommend both the Gold Coast & Old Town tour and the Bucktown & Wicker Park tour from Chicago Food Planet.
