For anyone that doesn't know, the leach field is the part of a septic system that leaches the water away from your septic tank. Our system is only 15 years old... and wasn't installed properly(according to the guy that just fixed our neighbors leach field right before Christmas). It's not the end of the world, I know. I'm thankful that we have the money to replace it. It just messes up the plans I had for that money. And I was having a bit of a pity party. I'm over it now...it is what it is. And it's not something we can live without. But it's definitely an inconvenient time. LOL All 5 people home all day, every day. And everyone here is full of shit!! 😁😁😁 Were you having a particular issue, or is this a situation where a second opinion might be in order? I.e. Is the guy that fixed your neighbor’s leach field going to fix yours? I’m sorry you have to deal with this! We had a couple of wet spots in our yard where we knew the leach field was. We had the tank pumped and had them bring a camera to check the lines. The distribution box is cracked and broken... and all of the lines have been flattened. Our guy said that it looked as though whoever did the original work drove over the system with some heavy equipment. And it makes sense because they had a bulldozer up here when they were building the house. So not only those issues but they didn't put sand down under the leach field, which is required for drainage. They put loam down under, which doesn't allow any drainage. We had the gut our neighbors used come last night and he's going to do it. They're hoping to get the paperwork going on Monday. The actual work will only take a week. But of course, it takes state approval... which can take a while.

brandy327 I want to give you one tip. If you had a plumber give you a quote, try having an excavation company give you a quote. It should be significantly cheaper. I found this out about replacing our sewer line. We plan to have this done next spring. The plumber quoted me $7000. The excavation company quoted me $3000-$4000. Significantly less. Of course the job is going to completely ruin my landscaping in the front of my house so we will have to fix that as well. But we felt better about the second quote. Hugs. This is never the kind of news anyone wants to hear. Yes this was from a excavation company. The guy from the septic company we used told us it was going to be $20-25K. I almost passed out when I heard that. Thankfully it shouldn't be that much.
