This is the second refill that I've had trouble with and I'm ready to throw this thing against the wall! Anyone have issues with the adhesive being on the wrong side of the roll for proper installation of a refill? Seriously thinking about changing my adhesive of choice.

Thanks for the link! Just did a bit fixing but the dang thing wants to keep rolling in on itself. I'm just going to take it out and use it without the dispenser.

Did you happen to buy the tape from Amazon? When I started buying at the store (with a coupon) my ATG tape issues seemed to resolve themselves.

I have a like/hate relationship with my ATG. I like that the refill are inexpensive and they last a looooong time. I don't find it too big and awkward like some people, and I can easily find it on my craft table mess. But I've come to hate it because it rolls back onto itself. The frustration level is too much for me. I craft for relaxation not frustration.
Now that I don't paper scrap anymore I obviously use less. For big areas I just use the B Creative tape or similar. For normal card-making I switched to Kokuyo and like it, but I recently tried GinaK and I really like it.
(the reason I tried GinaK is I got a couple of bad Kokuyo refills - one rolled onto itself ala ATG and the other didn't stick well)
ETA: I bought my ATG refils from an online framing store.

This is why I went to Scor-Tape. It's "tearable" tape. It comes in 27 yd rolls and various widths from 1/8". to 6".

I would buy name brand Scotch ATG refills and this still happened to me. I stopped using my ATG and now just use Kokuyo dot liner.

I know that for the off brand I buy, the lettering on the starter strip has to be upside down.

Sometimes the tape just goes on the wrong side. If I press on the tape roll, it will go to the right side and stay there. Since it is housed between two pieces of releasable material, sometimes it just loads incorrectly at first.

Yep. Happens to me a LOT. I always buy my refills from Michael's and when I get a defective one, I return it.

I quit using mine because I was getting alot of defective refills. Especially when I bought the off brand lots of them...probably half of those were garbage. I switched entirely over to Beacon 3 in 1 & Helmar's wet glue. So much easier!

This happened to me a lot when I was using actual 3M refills from M's or J's. I have had much better luck with the off-brand refills from Tape Jungle.

These are the scotch brand from Michaels I believe. Seriously thinking of switching adhesive because this is frustrating!

Such an easy fix. Sometimes it appears the roll is reverse wound but all you have to do is pull enough adhesive off until it's on the outside of the spool. I've been using my ATG for 10 years and go through a lot of it. Let's just say I bulk buy on Tape Depot or Jungle and I've never had a "bad" spool.

I had one type of ATG refill that had issues. I will never buy that one again. It did look slightly different as far as the packaging, but it sounded as though it was the same.
It wasn’t.
