Do you and your SO share a sofa in your lounge or do you have separate chairs?
DH is 8" taller than I am with a long body, and I have a short body for my height, so not surprisingly, we have never been able to find one sofa that is comfortable for us both. The one we currently have is reasonably comfortable for me, but not for him. He has been mulling over getting a La-z boy style chair for years, but firstly there is no space in our lounge for one, and secondly he wants to snuggle with me on the same sofa in the evenings. He can't have both!
We can't be the only ones in this situation. How do you manage?

We had a similar issue. I liked the couch, he didn't. He hurt his back a couple of years ago and didn't follow the recovery timeline so it still hurts to sit in certain chairs or couches for too long. We got rid of the larger sofa and got two armchairs that are more firm and straight backed. The couches and sofas that are deep and have huge pillows for backs aren't good for him.
We snuggle plenty in bed.

We sit on the same sofa, the husband is taller than me and we've never found it an issue.

RedSquirrelUK we have been shopping for a new couch and the conclusion we have come to is that we need to get one exactly like our existing couch. It is the kind with the recliner built in on the ends. It is big enough for him to sit comfortably. And he prefers a movable ottoman as his legs over hang the end of the recliner. So he never uses it. But it's big for me, so I keep my recliner end up as my feet don't reach the floor. I always keep a crochet project on my recliner end. ETA: he is a foot taller than me. So no couch we have looked at seats us both with back against the back and feet on the floor. And when we cuddle, I put my feet up and move to his end. Or he will lay his head in my lap while I sit comfortably in my recliner

The main criteria for any furniture like that for my husband is the seat height. He's a big, tall guy with bad knees/hips. He hates to struggle out of seats that sit so low. So I actually shop for furniture with a tape measure to find seats 19" or higher.
Right now, he generally sits in a leather wingback I bought him for Christmas. I sit in one of two matching chairs flanking the fireplace that we bought for this new house. The 18 y/0 is generally stretched out across the couch!

We have a deep, oversized sofa and chair with an ottoman. I sit always in one corner of the sofa with my feet tucked up (bare feet or socks; we don't wear shoes in the house) and DH prefers the chair with ottoman because he likes to stretch out.

In our livingroom, we have a couch and a love seat, but we seldom sit in there. We're usually in our TV room, where we have 2 lazy boy recliners. DH likes the downstairs family room where we have a large comfy sectional with high back (and reclining ends).
So we have a choice.

We bought a sectional sofa where parts of it recline. DH likes to lean back because it puts less pressure on his spine (two herniated disc surgeries) but I sit next to him and can be more upright in my section, although I do put my feet up on his extension.

we're not couch cuddlers - it's just not comfortable for me with my back and joint issues. IF I'm in the living room (not super common), then I'm in the recliner -the couch isn't comfortable and it's hard to get back out of. DH will sit on the couch or the floor or the recliner if I'm not in there - he's not picky.

He sits on the sofa. I have an oversized recliner. We're probably going to get rid of the sofa and get DH a recliner like mine.

We're struggling looking for living room furniture due to my shortness and DH's tallness.

Um, separate rooms If had to watch tv in the same room as DH, I would eventually go to prison for murder, because the type of shows he watches would drive me to it.

We have recliners. We also have a height difference and it's just more comfortable. Plus, for me it's easy to get up from a recliner than it was when I had a chaise. I really like it. The cats take turns sitting on either lap.

We have a couch that we share, plus a chair with ottoman that either of us might sit in.
When we are getting new furniture we go together and sit on every couch***
OMG I'm not even going to finish this post--Google keyboard is OUT OF CONTROL--up above it substituted cock for couch. I can't with this, every day it's suggesting something lewd 😳😳😳 I want the old Swype back! The one I could actually teach!

I feel your pain...I'm 5'3", DH is 6'7". It's been a struggle for us for a long time. We just got new furniture and what we opted for was a sectional that was comfortable for his frame and would mostly work for me. This is because my priority is that he be able to sit in any seat in the living room and snuggle with me on the couch. So we got furniture for giants, lol.
It works for me well enough though I feel like a little kid sitting in it but it works perfectly for him and we can comfortably sit next to each other anywhere in the room which is something we've never actually had. The big bonus is that it's actually big enough for us and our adult daughters too (one of which is 6'2") without anyone feeling crowded! Which honestly is kinda miraculous.

I don't see the need to be right next to each other. He likes to sit on an office chair. I prefer a reclining couch.

If it could only be one or the other, I'd go for separate chairs over a couch. I'm sort, so always end up with my legs tucked under me or on a footstool wherever I'm sitting. My problem with just having a couch to share is we both want the same spot with the right arm rest.

I've been looking. DH and I are basically the same size, as in tall.. so that isn't an issue. Issue is that I am afraid he is going to pull a fast one on me and I am going to be staring at a recliner from Bass Pro Shop..you know the kind, which for some people it is fine.. just not my style.. the recliner that the material is camouflage.
I am so done with the 'outdoor lodge look in my house'. Probably too much Joanna and Chip in my brain. Everything we have is cabin looking. My inlaws gifted us some of it, which was VERY expensive, so it's not like I could chuck it out the window. The chair and ottoman is wearing out thankfully and need to replace that. Problem is that the kitchen table ties to the chair (same area), so while I would like to go with a different look, I can't get rid of the table. I love the table, but it is 'outdoorsy'. So I need to find a way to get a nice recliner or one of those double recliners that isn't outdoorsy but still will tie into everything else. Ugggg.

My DH is 5’10” and I am 5’0” and we have a couch that reclines. Instead of one recliner at each end it divides in the center and has two extra wide recliners. I love it!

We had 2 dark teal/forest green leather lazy boy recliners that we got from MIL and FIL years ago. They finally gave up. We went looking. Found ones we liked ok. And went to buy them. Nope, can’t get them anymore.
So.... online, someone posted a BarcaLounger brand loveseat with 2 foot thingies that pop up (yes, I can’t come up with the word, but I know there is one). Leather, beige, a bit beat up for $75. We have 2 kids and 3 cats so we got it, figuring it is going to be destroyed by our kids anyway and it was cheap enough that if it lasts a few years we’re good with that, Gave our chairs away to a new mom for nursing in and her dad is putting the other into his shop. They were in Pretty rough shape- one lost all the stuffing from one arm, the other had a tear in the seat. I wasn’t sure I would like “the Barca” but it’s really comfy. The whole family can pile in and watch TV together or DH and I can sprawl out comfortably. It has grown on me. Lol. I’d get another.
We also have 2 chocolate brown 8foot long leather sofas too. Those get laid on or slept on by the kids usually.

DSO is nearly a foot taller than me, and it's never been an issue. A couch is a couch is a couch, and is equally comfortable for everyone regardless of their height. Our couch is a big U shaped couch, with a chaise at one end. The only issue we have is fighting over who gets to sit on the chaise part.

Hubby is 11" taller than me. I am 5' even and he is 5' 11". We solved it by each picking out our own couches. He has his own, and I have mine. I also discovered that chairs from the 1960s or so are much, much smaller. I found a beautiful one for $35 at a thrift store. Bought it, bought a cover, and I use that a lot too. Love that $35 chair!

We have Eckhorn Stressless recliners and ottomans. These are available in sizes. Mine is small and DH is medium. They are the most comfortable chairs ever.🥰 The company makes a sofa, but I’ve never sat on one, and I doubt that the sofa comes in sizes like the recliners do.

DH is 10” taller than I am and carries his height in his legs, which I carry my (lack of!) height in my torso. We went to individual chairs years ago. It’s not as nice as snuggling on the couch, but we can both walk when we get up! These days, only to dog uses the couch.
My parents actually have chairs that come in small, medium, and large. I forget what they are called, but they are really comfortable. Unfortunately, I think they are not my style or I’d get one for myself!

No couch for us. We have separate chairs. His is a rocking, reclining big man La-Z-Boy that gets replaced roughly every 7-10 years, mine is my dad’s 1950’s vintage easy chair with an ottoman that the reupholstery guy I use built to match it. I get my chair reupholstered about every 7-10 years. I don’t like chairs that rock or move. DD currently has a chair kind of like mine with an ottoman that we got from a friend but it’s too soft. She prefers mine so I’m constantly booting her out of it. I told DH we need to get her her own chair that she picks out so I don’t have to constantly give her the boot.
Part of the problem is our big dog will settle for her chair since I constantly boot him out of mine too. (He has his own big dog bed on the floor, but he can’t see out the window from there, so...) Apparently, I am the little dog’s bed because any time I’m sitting in my chair she is sitting ON ME, LOL.

When DH was in the hospital, I got rid of our couch (it was too low for both of us) and got a chair for me and a recliner for him. I figured he'd love the recliner as he had said before he wanted one. Well, guess who prefers my chair? Had I know, I'd gotten two chairs instead. So now if he sits on my chair first, I get the recliner and vice versa. Funny thing is that he hardly reclines in the chair. Guess he's afraid he'd drop his notebook or ipad on his face.
