I didn't really ask. I have an appointment at 8 am that they asked to change to a virtual visit. It is just a 6 month routine for my thyroid so I'm good with it being virtual, but it just dawned on me that i don't know if it is through the telephone or if i need to have my computer ready.

My doctor gave me a choice, which I wasn’t expecting. As I was naked in bed I went with the phone call.

DD had one last week for a med check. The doctor's office phoned first and DD went to her room to connect on her computer. I'm pretty sure she could have done it all on her phone though. The doctor did need to "see" her not just talk to her.

I had an appointment with my doctor on Friday and it was by phone call. I love not having to drive into the doctor’s office. And the last time I had to pick up my pain meds, which cannot be mailed to me like the rest of my medication, I just had to park my car and they came to my window to collect my insurance card, driver’s license, and credit card. I would love it if that became a standard thing. Maybe a drive-up window? I’m getting very antisocial with this pandemic.

I did a telemedicine appointment in December that was video, but I think I had the option to do it on the phone. I have also done a couple of appointments recently that were video. Depending on how long they keep trying to do non-urgent appointments via video, we'll see what happens with my next couple of scheduled appointments.

Do you have Walgreen’s or CVS in your area? I think they all have drive through pharmacies, set up like banks.

Our family therapist appt was on the phone. She wanted to see my 8 year old in office but we’re still on lockdown. When that opens up, she will be going in person. It’s play based therapy,

We did an e-visit for DD back in February. First I went through a whole online questionnaire asking about her height, weight, symptoms, temperature, medications she is on, etc. After a while we got a phone call from the doctor at the clinic who had reviewed everything and diagnosed her with flu. Since it had already been about four days it was too late for Tamiflu so they just recommended fluids, rest and ibuprofen for the fever. While it was nice not having to take a sick kid to the clinic, the best part was that e-visits have no copay with our insurance. That’s going to be my go-to from now on for anything they have on their list that they can treat that way.

I had an appt with my GP (I have to see him every three months) via phone last week. Wish I could do a phone visit more often.

I had a telephone appt with my ophthalmologist. It was a bit weird since he couldn’t examine me. I saw his technician the first week in March so this was my time with him. He find me I need new glasses 🤪🤪 and i have to wait until the fall after his more emergent cases get through. He said if I was desperate he could guess based on my March appt. I’m waiting. I need prescription reading glasses. Sometimes I can hardly read. Thank goodness for smart phones and kindles.

Working for a medical center, I have recently (last week) learned that doctors get paid a lotbless for telephone calls than for video appointments.

In the UK ours phone first, and if they need to see you, they work out the technology needed for a video conference.

They've been doing the phone calls for quite some time if you ring for an emergency on the day appointments long before this virus hit us. Emergency to some isn't always a medical emergency so it helps them to see more real emergencies. The Doctor rings back pretty quickly too so I've been told. I haven't needed to ring, thankfully.

Mine was video. I had to add an app “Healow”. My brother set up with his doctor’s office and his was a different app.
If they have a portal site that you use, I am sure they have the information there. Good luck.
The only problem I had was that they couldn’t test my TSH so I had to set up another appointment in 3 months to get that tested. But since I didn’t have anything that seemed pressing that is fine.

I’m doing both. For things like ADHD checkups, that can generally be just a phone call, but for rashes and sick visits it’s better to see the child. For video appointments, I have an app on my cell phone that sends a text message to the parent to join a video chat- they don’t need to download anything on their end.

ETA I mean it was a video call, but through my phone.

My kids have both had video appointments with their dermatologist. I saw my ob/gyn in person in March for my annual. I need to see my general doctor soon for a check up. I believe that will be by video.

Our office is able to do either. We prefer video appointments over phone appointments. Sometimes the patient does not have the technology to do the video so we do the best we can over the phone.

My first appointment with my surgeon's PA was video, but it got glitchy in the middle with sound, so we transitioned to phone. Not a fan of telemed. Very impersonal.
Last week I had an in-office appointment with my PCP after talking with her on the phone three or so times about post-surgical complications.
I have an video appointment with my surgeon tomorrow, so hopefully it goes better than the first time. I'm supposed to be fitted with an apparatus at some point, so that's going to require an in-office visit.

Oh, and it depends on your doc.
My husband did a virtual visit with his PC to get a prescription refilled and it was video.
My dad has had a few appointments, one was phone and the rest video.

DH had his first one last week via video call. The lab hadn't returned his results yet, so later the doctor called him by phone just to go over those. I haven't had one at this time.

Was talking to ds last night and he said something about MD office having confirmed his upcoming physical recently. I was a bit surprised considering the same office just last week cancelled my mammogram until Sept.
Now i'm starting to think along the lines that maybe they're trying to conduct a physical via phone/video? Would possibly make sense of our situations - him not being cancelled and me being cancelled (mine obvi can't be done via phone/video).
While i'd definitely be on board to "see" my MD via video for things that I needed right away. I feel like IF they're trying to do a physical via phone/video on a healthy 23 yo what is the point? So does anyone know if they're doing routine physicals via phone/video?

Our virtual visits are through Google Duo, so the doctor can see us.

Same for me a couple weeks ago. They had me download a certain app. My Parents have recently moved back up here from Florida and my Dad has an appt. scheduled that they are just doing over FaceTime. I personally loved the Telehealth appointment. Anything to avoid someone touching me. Lol I hate Doctor appointments.
