I don't know what's reopening but our peak was predicted to be May 1. I think it's too soon but that's a Republican governor for you, and this one is a particular dolt. I'm not interested in being in any large crowds so I'll probably avoid anything too peopley. We're still gearing up for the worst of the critical cases to hit the hospital. Not sure this will help that any.

And they'll probably just end testing so we don't have to worry about how many new cases there are!

She’ll be at the hair salon, nail salon, and church as soon as they open! 🤦🏽♀️ Shes 62; old enough to know better but apparently not care? I can’t. I quit.

Gyms, nail salons, hair dressers, bowling alleys, restaurants? They'll see their second surge sooner rather than later.

Ugh. My son lives in Georgia, with his immune-compromised fiancee and finacee's 10-year-old. Have they said anything about the schools? I hate the whole idea, although my son is very careful and hates the governor so he's not inclined to follow along like a sheep.

I don’t understand why he only picked businesses where it is practically impossible to social distance. Except for bowling, kind of, maybe. Unless you bring your own ball, you are sharing germs with everyone who used the ball you picked before you. And, depending on the alley, there is no way to keep 6 feet apart unless you walk the stairs and hang out beyond where you actually bowl (which no one would do).

But your ball would still be transferring your germs to everything it touches and picking up other germs maybe? Maybe I’m over cautious but yuck. Don’t go often but still. I think golf courses may open up here soon and if they limit it to no carts and keep it uncrowded maybe. Gyms I can’t even imagine as you touch everything thing. Heavy breathing so there will be lots of germs flying lol.

IHME updated a bunch of models a week or so ago bringing down predicted deaths and bringing in the peak resource needs. It's showing Georgia's peak resource need was April 15th. It's also suggests restrictions could begin to be lifted in mid-June, not May 1st. If you're using another site for peak, can you link it? I'm trying to keep track of the various prediction models. covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/georgia

I thought Trump said that states shouldn't consider opening things back up until they had a declining rate for 14 days?
I'm not in Georgia but I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I am pretty much ready to throw my hands in the air with the people who think we should open up tomorrow. If they want to put themselves at risk, so be it. The states that want to do this can be the guinea pigs to see how it goes. However, it won't be a few more weeks until we know more about if there is an increase in cases, and with the increased pressure from Trump and his minions, I am afraid more states will give into the pressure before we even know what happens in states like Georgia.

How is a bowling alley a hotbed of commerce? Where I live, bowling alleys were closing long before the virus hit since the real estate they were on was worth more than the bowling business. Which is too bad, it is a nice activity. But I can think of five in the last ten years that are no more.

I'm sure there are new models, as fits with the Republican governor's agenda. This is the same guy who claimed he didn't know asymptomatic people can spread the virus, which is either a colossal lie or he's colossally stupid. Get back to work, business as usual, etc. He probably doesn't want the conservatives rioting with their rifles out on his front steps. I'm more than a little suspicious of his data and motives. But we'll see eventually, and if he's right and it's not too soon, then I can only be happy to be wrong.

I’ve been on a bowling league for the past 8 years, and it is a favorite weekend and summer activity for my family. In fact, a number of the new bowling alleys have opened in the area - they have tv screens over the lanes, restaurant-quality food and cocktails brought to your table, etc. Loud current music playing and at night they have black lights and glow-in-the-dark balls for the 20’s set. If you ever go to Disney Springs in Orlando, Splitsville is an example of the new lanes that are opening.

I don’t live in Georgia—but there is no way in hell I would go sit face-to-faces a couple of feet away from someone for an hour plus to get my nails done. Seriously?

They waited as long as they could to shut down.

I too am not in Georgia. I would not go to any of those places. I would bet within 2-3 weeks the numbers will be up again. Yeesh, go ahead give it a go. I just hope they don’t have to shut down again.
Gyms.....that’s crazy. What are they going to do? Rope off every couple of machines so no one uses them? Who is cleaning the ones that are being used? A gym is like a school...a Petri dish of germs. The locker rooms are a Petri dish. Why would anyone even consider opening these up?

Well, Florida's governor said the #1 predictor of how you'll fare with COVID-19 is obesity, so we need gyms open so people don't get fat/lose the fat... 🤦♀️ Yes, I know obesity does contribute to bad outcomes, especially in younger patients, but it is not the #1 factor in whether or not the virus will kill you.

You’d think these people would want to be around to see their grandbabies grow up and their kids age. My neighbors are all in their 50s-60s, and all but 1 old man are still congregating in the driveways. My parents (their siblings and spouses except for my 1 aunt whose a nurse) (60s+) aren’t taking it seriously. My inlaws ~70s def not taking it seriously and are super pissed about the closures and fully supportive of the current protests. I. Do. Not. Get. It.

Today I went to the grocery store for the first time in three weeks. Wearing a mask. Today was the first day of mandated masks in public places in Connecticut. Approximately 90% of people in the store were wearing masks except—wait for it—people in their 20s and 30s. Strangely, it was also this group largely ignoring the signs on the door limiting shoppers to one per family. I didn’t get that either. Are young people still thinking this disease doesn’t affect them?

I can easily think of a handful of my own friends who fall into this category. I'm just talking about what I've personally observed in my own real life. And there are waaaay more than a handful of people in this age range (that I personally know) who are not taking this seriously and who think this is all bullshit.

It doesn't generalize everywhere. Its anecdotal. Also, I think the 20 year old range are idiots who think that it's not going to affect them, and if they do manage to catch it it won't be a serious case. Because, 20 year olds and their bravado.
