I enjoyed reading the Open Concept houses in quarantine thread and something funny occurred to me. My house is a split level. It has a wall between the kitchen and living room with two openings to enter the kitchen itself and the eating area from the living room. I work for the state School for the Deaf. I have Zoom meetings with my students every day. Last week I moved to my kitchen table just for a change of scenery (prior to that I'd been working in my office) as well as to keep an eye on my boys while they're doing schoolwork. (They've done quite well--they've really taken on the responsibility of doing their schoolwork without someone looking over their shoulder all the time). I'm Deaf and my students are Deaf. So as long as there's no visual disturbance behind me to distract my students (which isn't a problem because I sit with my back to a blank wall), my family can be as noisy as they want and it won't bother me because I can't hear them and my students can't hear them. They can be kung-fu wrestling in the living room but as long as they're out of my direct line of sight, it doesn't bother me. Merilee

I'm doing them for fun. I'm not sure how they will go until the very end of the year. I'll run out of fun ideas. We have an open concept, so there aren't many places that I could work so someone could pass through etc. Just have to keep my middle schooler in room and hope the dog doesn't see deer.

That's awesome!
I was thinking about people living in "tiny houses". I bet that's not a thing anymore when this is all over.

An example of the other side of the coin to how sensitive those kids are to visual stuff: both times I was pregnant, I would notice I had suddenly lost eye contact with every last one of them, and THEN realize that the baby was kicking so much that my baby bump was undulating. And then we’d all just take a pause and watch the show. Finally, I’d sign to my belly, “Ya’ finished?” “Thank you,” and we’d all giggle and move on.
