DH who's a math whiz etc. got the 5th grader's math homework wrong. He's always so spot on with, well, everything that I can't help but giggle. (DS also kindly refilled my wine and I have now ended up with an extra big 2nd glass of wine so it might be that, lol!)

I taught fifth grade math and found that sometimes the smartest parents were the most frustrated. People try to shortcut things or apply concepts that don't always work. My son was in advanced math from fifth grade on. By the time he graduated from high school he was in his third year of college math classes (calculus +). When he went to take his college entrance exams, he came back to me and asked me to help him with fractions, percents, and decimals. He'd skipped two years of classes in elementary/junior high that taught those things and he just could not remember any of it.

Too funny! DD still holds a grudge against DH for the time he helped her with her middle school math homework. He insisted his way was correct, so she turned it in...and got a ZERO! I hired a math tutor after that.

I wouldn’t even attempt to help with math homework. Good lord. (And just for the record ... I tested very high for math aptitude in high school ... and I still couldn’t/can’t do math to save my life. Thank goodness there’s still a place for “creative” people in this world.)

Eek, my husband tried to help with wasl math homework.
He kept a copy of those and took the to conference. The teacher always gave the parent a test, my husband “took” it. Looked at for a couple of minutes. And then told her there was no way to solve these questions with the information given. And then he pulled out the homework. Whew. The teacher then tried to tell us that the purpose wasn’t to solve the problem, but to put down different ways to solve the problems.
Yeah right.
