Our mothers day take out from a local BBQ joint was wonderful! They were busy but our order was on time, correct and freshly prepared. We avoid chains for sit down meals in general and, honestly, red lobster is my last choice for good seafood.

People are completely insane. I am not surprised by this at all. In non-quarantine times, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and other similar chain restaurants are absolutely slammed on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day (and other holidays). When we lived in cities that had them we would drive by and the parking lot would be packed, and the wait line would be out the door and around the building.
Add in quarantine, hungry people who are seriously on edge and just want to do a nice thing to celebrate, a reduced staff, no ability to stop taking orders and a massive holiday and that is a perfect recipe for chaos and violence.
I think the big chain corporations need to let the individual restaurants decide how many orders they can reasonably take and fill at this time, and perhaps limit the menu items available given their staffing situations. Esp since every state and city is doing something completely different with their lockdown status. A blanket “were open, come and get your food” isn’t working at this time. The smaller locally run restaurants have moved to that model, and they are not having big problems like this. When they are out of food they are done. Simple.

I was so embarrassed for this lady when I saw the video. All I could think of was how she put herself and others at risk by acting this way. I hope no one was sick.

We had a very entertaining monster thread on our Next Door app about Mother's Day take out. A neighbor went to a popular locally owned Italian place and waited for 45 minutes (allegedly) for his order which he had phoned in ahead of time. When he finally got to the front of the line, he told the person helping him that the restaurant should have stopped accepting orders to avoid this situation. He called the restaurant's management staff "Incompetent." The lady went and got his order, brought it to the counter and said "I don't know if I want to serve you after you called me incompetent."
The neighbor said (allegedly) "I didn't call you incompetent, I called your bosses incompetent for continuing to take orders they couldn't fulfill in a reasonable time."
The lady said, "I'm the owner so you called me incompetent." She then threw his food in the trash can.
The neighbor left and bought hamburgers on the way home.
The neighbor then got on NextDoor and told his version of the story, which led to a very lively thread with about fifty comments. Some neighbors vehemently defended the neighbor and others just as passionately defended the owner of the Italian place. It was as entertaining as any thread on the old board.

I was thinking the same thing as myshelly. It's too bad they didn't have the estimated pickup time like Olive Garden does. My neighbor got Olive Garden on Mother's Day -- they had the same issues. They ran out of bread sticks and salad. Wait times were like 2 hours. We did two local places and each had a 1/2 hour wait, but not problems with running out of food or anything. It was local places that stepped up first with take out and delivery. I'm hoping people remember the local places over the corporate places when this is over.

I’m not hating Red Lobster as long as you know what you’re getting. But why would anyone expect less than a 3-hour wait on Mothers Day? Here restaurants are fully booked weeks ahead when there isn’t a pandemic. I should stop being surprised at people’s stupidity and just accept it.
By the way I’m in Ontario and I never heard any issues here.

We do not go out on any holiday because I hate long waits, frazzled servers, and loud dining experiences complete with screaming out of control kids. Sounds like this nwas an especially good year to skip the fun
