We got take-out for Mother's Day (from a local Latin restaurant, with premixed Mojitos!) We drove across the city with it to a park where we'd be able to put ample space between ourselves and others. When we got there, we discovered we had the completely wrong order -- they'd handed out the cocktails immediately, so those were right, and we actually had two orders of the appetizers we'd purchased, but all of the entrees were wrong (one of them was even tongue, which -- I respect that many people enjoy, but not anyone in this house). We just ate (most of) what they gave us and enjoyed the sunny weather. Yes, I'm sure it does help to have had the cocktails afterwards ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) . Anyhow, I get that the pandemic has had a real effect on a lot of people, and that probable people who blow a gasket at the Red Lobster aren't really mostly upset at the Red Lobster. Still, Red Lobster employees don't deserve that, and I do get embarrassed about the extent to which the things that seem to be setting at least some people off are not on the roster of real problems people are facing (eg, while I don't think you get to yell at hospital employees either, a family member denied hospital entrance to visit a deathbed relative seems to me to be poorly managing an actual problem).

We had a bad Restaurant delivery on Mother’s Day.
More than half of our order was missing.
They refunded to whole amount, remade the whole order for us to pick up, and gave us a $50 gift card.

I haven't seen it but I did get an email from RL today. The CEO was apologizing for Sunday. That even though they knew it was a holiday and had prepared for the business they thought they would have, they were just slammed with orders. All day. Some of the restaurants were just unable to keep up with the demand. People have just lost their minds these days.

We completely lucked out with our Mother's Day takeout--we usually do dinner so we can avoid the brunch crowd, but this we picked up a brunch deal at noon. From what I was reading on some local restaurant groups on FB, it sounded like everyone else tried to do dinner and it was a mess.
Even the florist I used to work for got slammed. She was expecting to be busy, but it was worse than she could have imagined. She definitely had at least twice the orders than normal, maybe even three times. Sounds like she even ran out of flowers!

I got lucky. A local brewery was offering a chicken bacon ranch salad special. I said I wanted that for lunch so DH ordered that, a meal for himself, and refilled a growler with my favorite beer from there. They were not busy at all so everything was perfect.
Meanwhile, another place was swamped and posted a thank you for customers' patience and understanding during the mad rush.
A Chinese place that makes the best crab ragoons and egg rolls IMO is opening back up tomorrow for take out. I can't wait but I will. I've told DH I'm ordering egg rolls for lunch soon.

A local florist sold out of everything she had for mother's day. She's a small independent shop that does not do FTD or 1800flowers. Had my mom been home, I would've ordered something. I'm waiting for her to get home before I get anything.

We waited a lot longer than normal for takeout on both Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day. What are you going to do? DH was not super happy about waiting on Cinco de Mayo so on Mother's Day we sent younger dd to wait. She was perfectly happy to sit in the car for an hour and play Animal Crossing. LOL

We never eat out on Mother's Day so I certainly didn't try take out. It's always a nightmare.

My daughter works at a local Mexican restaurant, so she brought home tacos for Mother's Day so we didn't have to wait. On Cinco de Mayo my husband wanted Mexican food. She told us not to order from where she works because they were slammed, as were most every other Mexican restaurant in town, so he ended up at Taco Bell, which was also busy.

There were some places in my area that got totally slammed on Mother's Day, and one whose system went down and orders were lost and/or very late. I think a lot of places were way busier than they expected to be.

I don't think any restaurant that was open for Mother's Day DIDN'T have an issue with long waits. Some people just gotta show their ass.

Our Red Lobster is closed. When I hear about long wait times, like this one, I wonder why they continue to take orders.

It’s an online system run at the corp level. The individual restaurant can’t turn ordering off even if they become overwhelmed/can’t keep up.

I was thinking the same thing as myshelly. It's too bad they didn't have the estimated pickup time like Olive Garden does.

It seems like all of our local restaurants required advance ordering (not the same day) so I didn't hear any kind of chatter about this kind of thing on our local Facebook page. We got Indian takeout from a town about 20 minutes away, and we placed a same day online order, which got screwed up. Yes, it was Mother's Day but I'm just not going to lose my shit over this type of thing any more.

I get that everyone is stressed right now but there is no reason to get physical. That woman should issue a public apology for her behavior.

Wow, all over a refund. She could of just taken it down 10 notches and handled that so much better.
No way would I wait for 3 hours for food. I'd make something at home if needed.

We ordered from a local "meat & three" restaurant on Mother's Day. Everything in our order was correct and the food was delicious. If it hadn't been, I can't fathom that we would have gone back and caused a scene over it. It's really a shame how poorly some people behave.

Mother's Day sucks for food services in "normal" times. Add a pandemic, staff shortages and things are likely to go south.
Do you/they really not think most workers do the best they can? Of course it's not the best service in these circumstances. You are just trying to get take out food, not being kept from life-saving services. It sucks. I get it. But really, to the point of violence? Get over it, get your money refunded and move forward.
I would have left long before 3 hours and requested my money back online/in writing or via my credit card or whatever. I might have just left it or converted it to tips for employees if I could and could afford it.
Many businesses that are even (somehow) open are having to revamp damn near everything. Totally new way of business like starting from square one. or two at best. I'm not surprised it's not going smoothly. Cut them some slack.
It's a whole new world right now where everyone better start cutting others some slack and/or give grace or things are just going to get worse.
It's a blessing to get any non-essential services these days. Chill and be grateful.
Everyone is finding their way the best they can these days. Even the often looked down upon Red Lobster and their employees.
I feel awful for how many are being treated. Sad.

Our Red Lobster is closed. When I hear about long wait times, like this one, I wonder why they continue to take orders. Whenever our wait time is 45 minutes or longer, I tell people that as soon as they say they want to place an order. The vast majority are okay to wait. (More surprising are the people who are ticked off when it is only 15. Listen, Karen, it takes 10 minutes to cook your order. I’m sorry we have other customers and we aren’t starting it immediately.) Now, a three hour wait at RL? That’s insane. I’m not sure I realized that many people still ate there. 🤔🤣

I think that this is going to vastly change what restaurants look like in the coming years. I'll be very surprised if many (if any) corporate chain "sit down" restaurants survive. They've been reporting for several years now that Millennials don't do chain restaurants, but this is probably going to be the final nail in the coffin.
It's my hope that it also changes how restaurants order stock. I just watched a local news segment about the "meat shortage" (which is less a shortage than a backup at the processing level). They interviewed the manager of Farm Burger and because they source their meat from local farmers/butchers, they haven't had any increase in cost or issue with maintaining supply. Hopefully this will lead to an influx of restaurants that use locally sourced ingredients.

link If I am gonna wait 3 hours for food, it ain't gonna be at Red Lobster. Preach. Though I've never eaten at a Red Lobster. I grew up in Boston, if you want seafood you take a ride to one of the million little places that serve seafood. I remember, years ago, they put a Red Lobster ON Cape Cod. Everyone got a good laugh at that and it went out of business very quickly.

My DD works at Red Lobster (well, currently furloughed) but it amazes me the way their customers act on a regular basis. I know these people go in with the mindset that they will pitch a fit to get free food at the end of the night regardless of the service or quality of food.
My DD was getting notifications that the orders coming into RL that night were outrageously high and that people were not following the social distance rules established.
We tried to order early at Outback and another local steak place. Outback had a message online that their volume was too high and could not take anymore orders at the time. The other steak house had the phone going to voicemail. I get it. It's a very weird time. It's mothers day and families are trying to do something special for mom, all at the same time. But its also the middle of a pandemic and restaurants are still trying to figure this all out, can't use all the searing available, probably working with a skeleton crew and probably don't have all the ingredients they need. People need to be more understanding about what is really going on. We tried to call a few times and realized how crazy it was everywhere so my daughter asked me what I wanted her to make me for dinner and I said Ramen, and I was fine with that. We will try to order again at the local steakhouse this weekend for our anniversary, I'm expecting better results.
