I unfollowed another facebook friend yesterday. He shared a post from a friend that said (and I'm likely not getting the wording quite right) "I will not be vaccinated (chipped) for the coronavirus. Who else will share this" OMG
SO of course I clicked the original post to see - this person was a hard core Trump supporter and her page was full of tinfoil hat nonsense. OMG
Really? People really think the technology exists to put a microchip in a vaccine??
Insert head banging agains the wall emoji here......

To be fair, they also think Trump is a good president so...........yeah. They aren't exactly known for their critical thinking skills and understanding of science.

Let’s hope the number of crazies stays small enough that, when there is a vaccine, enough of us can get it to have herd immunity.

I thought I knew how dumb some people were but this pandemic has them coming out in droves. I am actually shocked by the sheep who don't read the news, don't verify what they read and blindly assume that if it is on Facebook it must be true.

My though was oh well... let the stupid people do what they want, while the rest of us get the vaccine. Hopefully they'll all get sick. Yeah, I'm going to hell... The only problem with my little scenario there is that I'm sure there will be those people who cannot get the vaccine for one reason or other, and then they'll be at risk from the stupid ones. ugh

We have a family FB messenger chat group. My mom, aunts, uncles, cousins... we are spread out from CA to MI, so it is nice.
Except my aunt and my moms cousin. Holy wakadoodle. They are both nuts. My aunt is constantly posting conspiracy theories, and my moms cousin just eggs her along. My husband removed himself from the group he was getting so frustrated lol
And yes, my aunt and moms cousin are 45 supporters.

I’m simultaneously horrified and fascinated.

You know, if trump wants his precious economy to reopen ASAP, he should be doing everything in his power to debunk shit like this. BecUse clearly the people who support him and not the vaccine need to hear it from the source they trust. I’d be willing to bet that some of his supporters are worried about the virus, and don’t intend to go back to regular life once restrictions are lifted. And if they also believe this pile of nonsense, they’re never leaving their house again. So he needs to help by debunking this.
He won’t though, because he loves a good conspiracy theory.

When did science become something not to be believed? When did the expertise of the guy who lives down the block become more believable than Ph.D.s and MDs who have devoted their lives to research? It's surreal to me.

And the “masks activate the virus” belief is also mind numbingly delightful.

For those of you of my vintage, remember getting polio shots as a child? Or perhaps a sugar cube?
Those sort of mass inoculation programs will never work in this country again. Because too many don't "belive in science."

I mean, people are burning down cell towers because they think 5g is causing coronavirus so we're all basically fucked.

Back then, our parents were grateful for a way to protect their children from these things.

I’m not saying I believe it but they microchip pets with a needle so I could see why some people would believe it.

DH plays golf with a guy who firmly believes that the democrats are behind the virus. If Hillary had won, we wouldn't even have this virus because the whole thing is payback for the election. I asked if he had any theories as to how we got the whole world to go along with us and he said that friend said we planted it in China and it took off from there. The rest of the world are victims of our scheme too. It must be true...he heard it on Hannity. I had no idea we had that much power. DH knows he's nuts but he hates to cut him loose because he's played golf with him for over 20 years. I, OTOH, had no problem unfriending him on Facebook. I never liked him anyway.

Gimme a vaccine, I’m wearing my mask & happy to be using 5g as soon as it’s available here. 🙄 why, yes, micro chips do fit in ‘needles’ but those are some big needles. Not the small needles used for vaccines. But whatever, it’s better to fear what can save you I guess.
I’m guessing Trump didn’t figure out a way to monetize 5g for himself or he’d be pushing it and debunking these conspiracy theories.
Don’t worry here’s how it will go if he is still president when a vaccine is ready: ‘they’ will all get the vaccine from whichever company he’s invested in ( hopefully it will be a good one ) because he will be having press conferences to advertise the vaccine that benefits him. If somehow they don’t require it to be *that* vaccine for all of us... vaccines from other sources will be down played if not out right campaigned against with some smear campaign or conspiracy theory.
Profit rules all
At this point I’d want to do my own research before getting anything he ‘recommends’ because profit rules all

Damn! No one told me that chip I had last year needed to be replaced for this coming flu season. Now I'll have to have another one when this covid vaccine comes out. I'll be full of microchips if this carries on!

Because too many don't "belive in science." I’m not *that* old but I can remember we all lined up IN SCHOOL by home room and got vaccines right there in the gymnasium by visiting nurses from the health department. The school nurse took whomever was allergic out of line, and they lined up at the far side of the gym with the teacher waiting for the rest of us to get our shots. Very few people were not vaccinated max 1 or 2 per class but often none were taken out of line. And when done we all went back to class & continued on learning what ever subject was next. It wasn’t very different than picture day which was also in the gym by class. That would have been mid 1970’s in lower upstate NY. Parents would freak out if it was done that way today.

If you have time and want to go down a rabbit hole of crazy, check out the "hidden knowledge". Facebook page. It's an open group and....wow. a friend's dad shares from there and it's next level. They had posted a huge missive about Bill gates, vaccine, 5G, and quantum tattoos. 🤪

When did science become something not to be believed? When did the expertise of the guy who lives down the block become more believable than Ph.D.s and MDs who have devoted their lives to research? It's surreal to me. Issac Asimov said: "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' " For decades, the GOP has purposely painted intellectualism as elitism, and the base eats it up. There exists a sneering disregard for any type of expertise or education. Doctors, scientists and academics of any sort are not to be trusted. These same people support a silver spoon supposed billionaire who lives in a gilded penthouse in liberal NYC. Logic isn't their strong suit.

Pretty discouraging that the segment of society who actually believes this crap appears to be growing....
My cousin had Polio as a child.

My mouth has dropped open. Someone who plays golf probably has enough money to do so and can't (or shouldn't be) a total backwoods, uneducated crazy. This is absolutely the craziest theory I have heard. Because seriously, if we are behind the virus, we would have set it on Trump.

It was still being done that way in Australia well into the 90s. I remember sub teaching and having to take my class to have the polio/tetanus booster they do about age 15/16 - I asked if I could get it too, as I knew it had been a long time since I’d had one.
