My sister lives near there. About a year ago they had a garage sale for a full month getting rid of things. Then remodeled and added a pool.
Last year, nothing had been done to the house since 1920 when it was built....so very dated wallpaper and rugs.
I am envious of the storage space. That dressing closet! ...lot of dusting in those bedrooms, but the storage/bookshelves are nice.
(duh, it helps to include the link)

I don't see a link... but I'd love to check out the house! I went to an estate sale a few years ago at a house in Phoenix that still had wallpaper and finishes inside from the 1930s-40s... I walked around looking at the walls and taking photos of the wallpaper, lol!

I love the front of the house.
We own a house that was built in 1934. It was originally a service station and had rooms added on when it was converted to a house. It's a very strange hodgepodge of a dwelling. When DH tore out the kitchen there were a lot of layers of old wall paper. It was interesting to see. We rent it out now, our tenant loves it. I think mostly because rent is cheap.

That closet!!! Wichita Falls is a nice little town. We often spend the night there on our way to Amarillo. We also used to go there for the Hotter'N Hell ride, and yes it is that hot!! LOL

My sisters and I rode the 25 mile portion of the race for 2 years, and 3rd year I rode alone. Now, we all think we are past it being a good idea (because of our age).

Not a thing in there looks 1920s. I don't like their decor and that's ruining the whole thing for me.
I had a 1920 house but it was rather plain, no one had done a thing to it for the most part other than maintenance, central air, bathroom upgrades. I loved that house.

While I don't like a lot of the colors or design choice, it's a lovely house! They did a nice job updating it!

I'd buy it just for the closet in the master, my shoe collection and I could be very, very happy in there.

I'd give up most of that closet for a bigger kitchen.

They need another yard sale. So much STUFF.
Great bones on that house though.

that's the first time I've ever actually 'took' a virtual tour of a house... I know, how behind the times am I, right? lol. It's pretty, but I don't think there's an actual en suite master bath? at least I couldn't figure out where it was.

Definitely the lived in look. I can't imagine not having beds made in pristine form for realtor photos. lol

That closet is to die for but I'd have to gut the rest of that house. That Interior is just depressing.

depressing! thank you; yes, that's the word. I don't think it has any sort of vintage, original feel to it at all.

Ugh so much stuff and definitely looks very lived in. I don’t get the placement of a lot of the furniture, rugs and art. Overall nothing about that house is my style (I’m not even a fan of columns on a house for example)

Not my style at all, even if it were decluttered inside. But it absolutely boggles my mind that you can buy a 4000+ sf home with a pool for $400k ANYWHERE.

The closet I love how the bones of the house look, but their decorating is really awful. Hopefully, they put all the money into the upgrades.

Yes, but does it have a basement? A storm shelter? Because it's in tornado alley. I lived there for 3 1/2 months back in 1988. For the last month and a half, which was during tornado season, I was terrified every day. Then-husband was on AF base 12 hours a day and I was just off base in an apartment with windows front and back, and only a freaking closet to hide in. Which I did. Several times. First time I ever saw large hail, the remnants of an ice storm, a wall cloud, and multiple funnels. Yeah. I hated it there (I love weather but I am terrified of tornadoes). The weather there is insane pretty much all year (ice, snow, hail, wind, tornadoes, heat...)Didn't help that I was really ill the entire time too (undiagnosed gallstones). Not a good time.

boy, that house needs a serious edit of the stuff in it. I would have loaded a bunch of pods and painted everything very neutral before pictures/showings. There were full trash cans, sloppily made beds. Seriously, their realtor sucks. It could have looked spectacular.

While it's always fun to peek inside other people's houses that house sure has a lot going on inside. It needs some serious decluttering. All the stuff distracted from really noticing all the historic charm of the house.

Forgot to mention this earlier--Did anyone else notice the pedestal fan/s in the house? IMO, a ceiling fan would eliminate that....but then you would need to get rid of the mini chandelier in the bedroom.

I seriously hate the oversized columns on the front of the house. They just look ridiculous to me. I would loved to have seen what the house looked like before they changed everything, and it would have been nice to see them keep some of the period detail. My clothes would barely fill a quarter of that dressing room, so I think I would be turning it into a craft room instead.

You can better direct the flow where you want it and I HATE trying to clean ceiling fans.

The kitchen is far too small for a house that big.

It's more house than I would want and I suspect that master is upstairs so that would definitely be deal breaker despite the fantastic closet.

I couldn’t see enough of the bones of the house because of all the stuff. I know that feels homey to some people but just makes my anxiety skyrocket. I’m with the pea who said they’d trade closet space for a larger kitchen, or at least a large master bath. Longer rooms (and I realize some of that is the photos) with short ceilings make me feel antsy as well. The built-ins are nice, but I see them and think about all of the stuff that would be visible, and also need to be dusted. Yes, but does it have a basement? A storm shelter? Because it's in tornado alley. I lived there for 3 1/2 months back in 1988. For the last month and a half, which was during tornado season, I was terrified every day. The weather there is insane pretty much all year (ice, snow, hail, wind, tornadoes, heat...)Didn't help that I was really ill the entire time too (undiagnosed gallstones). Not a good time. I don’t know if that’s practical there, the ground might be pretty solid rock. That’s an issue with a lot of central Texas anyway, not sure around WF. We actually had a tornado warning the other day. I was gathering my phone, ipad, and clothes (cause I was naked ) and heading down to our first floor. Not only are basements not financially practical here, but our entire downstairs floor plan is open so I don’t have a single room to shelter in. They are all against an outer wall and all have tons of windows. So I laid down on the couch to read and decided if I heard the train coming I would have to flip over our huge, heavy couch against a wall and hope for the best! Just read that NYS, MA have a tornado watch until later tonight. That’s unusual isn’t it?

Wow, I'm having such a surreal moment here. I grew up in Wichita Falls so I clicked this thread with great interest. WF is filled with old money and has a lot of beautiful homes so I wondered if I knew of the house in the listing. Turns out that's the former home of my high school drum major (and passed every single school day, K-12). I've swam in that pool! That's a beautiful neighborhood but there's no way they'll get 400k for that. My parents live not too far from there and I'm sad to say that portion of town has declined rapidly. Not my style at all, even if it were decluttered inside. But it absolutely boggles my mind that you can buy a 4000+ sf home with a pool for $400k ANYWHERE. The sale price will probably be low to mid 300's. It can be yours if you want to live in a neighborhood still called "Indian Heights" ( ) and where it is hotter than hell for a significant portion of the summer (big kudos to you who have participated!). When you see the house in context of the lot the columns aren't nearly as tacky/gaudy as the pictures makes them out to be. I don’t know if that’s practical there, the ground might be pretty solid rock. That’s an issue with a lot of central Texas anyway, not sure around WF. The soil there is red clay and subject to lots of movement so basements wouldn't be practical. The few basements I've known of were in houses built before the 30's. The water table is so high that any basement would have moisture concerns. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, librarylady !
