I have a heritage album I've started that is on going. Most of the pictures will be in divided sheet protectors. For the special photos or ones that I think would be fun to put on a big page, I'd love to try something elaborate. My grandma was a school teacher from the 1930's-1960's. So there's lots of awesome pictures. My sister is big into genealogy so there's many more there too. I've saved lots of ideas on my pinterest board Where do you buy those bulky flowers, fabric butterflies, and fabric doilies, and neat metal embellishments? Those aren't specific to scrapbooking, so I'm sure they are cheaper if they aren't packaged and labeled for scrapbooking! Suggestions of where to find SVG files like clock faces, gears, fancy swirls? I discovered a website that has some fun vintage die cuts and great vintage lines. The paper is only 8x8 though. www.plspapershop.com/category-s/1840.htmI know I could find some free vintage images, but these are perfectly cut out! I haven't ordered from them, so if anyone has, loved to hear if they are a good company. I am a very simple scrapper, so I need help! I think it would be fun to make an elaborate page on a rare occasion.

Do you have a Michael's near you? They have many of the items you describe in their Recollections brand which isn't too expensive, especially if you hit a sale. Vintage buttons and lace are also options. Michael's also has those butterflies and crystals swirls and flowers. You could also go to the dollar store and find stuff that will work. I love making vintage bumpy pages!

I am lucky enough to living less an hour away from the Prima warehouse. that's where I buy all of my flowers and some other embellishments for a fraction of retail prices.
I just placed an order a few minutes from joann.com because they have free shipping no minimum for just a few hours today. use code: cmbb301

Hobby Lobby has many of the things you mentioned, too. Sounds like a fun project.

The closest M's, J's, and HL are about 40 minutes away, but if I do some planning I can check out the stores when I'm in the area.

One other question, anyone know where you can get the chicken wire I see on layouts? Not sure I want to use the real thing. Can this be found at the big box stores too?

I was going to say Prima and Tim Holtz. I bought a kit at the Prima Warehouse sale to try that style. Some of their designers do beautiful vintage distressed pages. You might check out Prima's blog. Gabrielle Pallacco has lots of YouTube videos for technique.
It would be nice for heritage pages or a mixed media art piece. A bit much for everyday scrapbook pages, though.

I'm way too lazy and cheap to do those types of pages all the time.

The great thing about heritage collage is you can use scraps for most of the smaller elements. Its just making sure the colors compliment.

I am echoing what another said....Prima DT are the queens of the one picture, multi-embellished pages....It almost is uncanny how you can tell a Prima DT layout. Check out Prima's blog.... I think you can get a lot of those kind of things at Michaels or Joanns or even Hobby Lobby..... (I do not work for Prima/Prima DT) FYI.... Prima Design team link

For the record.... Michaels is going to have more of that than Joanns. Unless you go to Joann website, then they have that stuff. Wait for a sale at Michaels, otherwise most everything you are wanting is 4.99.

I have a small stash of ribbons, metal pieces, paper lace trim, pearl and rhinestone embellies which I don't use as I'm more a graphic, classic style scrapper. If you message me I'll be happy to mail them to you for your project.

Go ahead and RAK them to someone else if you want.

I'm going to step out of the doily and flower embellishment camp, and suggest you dig a little deeper into your grandma's personality to select your embellishments. You said she was a schoolteacher for 30 years- maybe you should also look at themes that reflect her career choice: vintage school items, yearbooks, memorabilia, etc. what was her personal style? Was her home decorated in a Victorian style, or a more modern look? Unless her home was full of lace and doilies, think of looking for embellishments that reflect the era of the photos and treasures you have of her. I like to make my heritage pages as personal as I can, there's no reason they have to be filled with muted colors and old watches and lace. Just my two cents!

I like to make my heritage pages as personal as I can, there's no reason they have to be filled with muted colors and old watches and lace. Just my two cents! My grandma does fit that description. She loved flowers and had an amazing green thumb. She did needle point and crocheted. So doilies would probably work too. I definitely want to find vintage school embellishments. Home was decorated?? Comfortably. My grandpa was the quintessential man in the overalls, plaid shirt, fisherman, gardner, outdoorsman, had a few chickens. Even had an old pocket watch. So he fits the watch description and she fits the flower description. Could probably do less doilies though. Also there's those old photos that we aren't ever going to know much about besides the basics of birth and death dates. Those are the ones where I'd go more "generic" heritage.

LOL! I'm glad that the flower and doily thing seems perfect for your grandparents! I do get a little weary of heritage pages that use the same types of themes, colors and embellishments, no matter the era or personality of the ancestor. You mentioned needlepoint- that would look awesome on a layout, don't think I've ever seen that done.

I buy all of my Prima and Petaloo flowers at Joann.com for 40% off. I also order them from Wild Orchid Crafts. I have ordered from them for years. Great service and prices. More fun things I use for texture and embellies is cheesecloth, drywall tape (I have two kinds I got at Lowe's), vintage book paper (I have an antique ledger I got from eBay), and lots of other fun stuff. Enjoy. It's the only way I scrap.
