My wardrobe is in desperate need of updating. I have lost close to 115lbs in the last two years..and I'm approaching 40..(UGH! That is painful to type). I just really don't know what my style is. We are headed to the Dallas area in a couple of weeks so I thought I would try out a personal stylist. Anyone have any experience? What can I expect? Is there high pressure to buy everything they set out for you? Is there one Nordstrom in the Dallas area that is better than another? Our sole purpose for the trip is just to shop so any recommendations are welcome.
Thanks, Dena

I have not used them but my sister has. She said it was nice and relaxed. No pressure. I would like to give it a try, too. I need to get a style, I am 42. Congratulations on your weight loss!

I have used Nordstrom's personal stylists and I highly reccomend it. The service is free and there isn't pressure to buy.
The very first time I used a stylist I was looking for a dress for a special occasion. The stylist picked out a dress for me that I would have never tried on. She convinced me to try it on to "humor her" and it turned out to be very flattering and it is still one of my favorite dresses. She also helped me pick out shoes and jewelry to go with the dress.
I went back a few weeks later and asked her to help me update my wardrobe. She found some really versatile seperates that I would have never found on my own. She even took me over to the juniors' department and picked out a few scarves for me that were super cheap.

I tried to use one of the personal shoppers to make shopping for an outfit for a wedding easier when I was recovering from surgery. Unfortunately, she had a very different idea of what I would consider wearing to a wedding than I do. It was not helpful. There was zero pressure to buy anything. Years before, I had used the service to find outfits for interviews. That experience was significantly better. That stylist quickly clued in to my tastes and found colors that worked for me and outfits that were slightly less boring and fit my style. And, she supervised the alterations as well. So, no pressure from Nordstroms on either side of the country. But, the experience was dependent on the individual stylist. The real secret to great fitting clothing, however, is alterations. A friend was on What Not To Wear and they alter every little thing. Keep that in mind as you try things on.

Yes! It was AWESOME and I highly recommend it. I did it for my two older girls, one when she graduated college and had her first job and the other when she was going on her big internship last summer.
The woman was terrific - not pushy at all; respected our price points and my daughters' choices and tastes and both girls left with really nice work wardrobes.
Can't recommend it highly enough.

I have, and have always had a good experience. After you make he appointment, they will call you to get input on your sizes, taste, and what you're looking for. It's a good idea to also mention your budget on the call as they won't ask. When you arrive, the stylist will have a room ready for you with a bunch of stuff already selected for you to try on. Then you can provide feedback on those items to help the stylist select other things for you to try on.
I have not ever felt pressured to buy anything.

I suggest you go to the Nordstrom at Northpark. The stylists are very helpful without being pushy. Northpark is a great mall located on a main freeway.

I have used a Nordstrom personal stylist several times, but I have to admit I prefer shopping on my own. Although the personal shoppers have all brought me very nice things that looked good on me, I found I ended up buying a lot of things that I loved, but didn't really fit in with my lifestyle.
For instance the burgundy leather pants looked great on me and made me feel super sexy, but seriously...where the hell am I going to wear them? Back they went, as well as a bunch of other things I bought. My own fault of course for being swept up int eh moment.

Ironically they just reported on the noon news that the Nordstrom's at the Mall of Georgia is closing after the first of the year. I've never even been in the store much less used one of their stylists. Now I feel guilty. Maybe I should go in and try this service while it's still close by.

I used one when I purchased the gown I wore to my daughter's wedding. She was wonderful and no pressure. Also my daughter purchased her gown at Nordstrom's and they helped her pull the whole thing together, jewelry, shoes, etc. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

I've had good experiences and one fabulous experience. I highly recommend them to anyone who doesn't care for shopping or needs advice. I've gone for special occasion dresses, and when I moved to a new climate and needed a winter wardrobe. There has never been any pressure- but in all honesty , I'm there for a purpose and they've always helped me find what I'm looking for, so I've never left empty handed. They're very respectful of your needs, budget etc. Like anything, there can be variability in the specific stylist, but I've never had a bad experience.
