Walk Away the Pounds is perfect for such a time as this! Can’t get out and take a walk in your neighborhood? Don’t have equipment or floor space? If you’ve got 2 good legs and a little bit of space, you can walk away the pounds! Simple enough that a child can do it. Gentle enough that elders can do it. She’s got a bunch of videos on YouTube. This happens to be the exact one mile walk I own on VHS! She usually uses some kind of gadget you could buy for arm exercises, but you can use canned goods or just nothing. youtu.be/ECxnTuzZ614Sadly, I can’t do this anymore per my chiropractor - after I think the side steps aggravated a previous hip injury. Or the repetitive walking in place. But I’m the exception to the rule. I also injured myself just taking a relaxing sit down bath in the tub. Not slipping. Just laying in the tub messed me up. But really this walking workout is low intensity. I used to love it. It’s great for rainy days and quarantine.

I now walk outside but I’ve done Leslie’s videos and will second your recommendation. She has a really good variety of walking workouts.

I forgot about her. I did her workouts many years ago. I have always been a workout at home person and it's amazing how many really good videos are available on youtube now. I probably will never go back to her workouts, but I appreciate that she got me started up again about 15 years ago.

I thought you were going to trick us with the Prancercise lady! 😁 LOL I think I saw her thanks to the peas! 😂 no this is legit. Perfect for someone just getting started or just getting back. One of my FB friends was looking for a variety of ideas to get her kids moving in quarantine and this immediately came to mind.

The peloton app also has family workouts that are geared towards kids, if they might be interested in that. They are under the cardio section of the app. There is a free trial.

Thanks for sharing! I usually walk a treadmill but this has better variety and works muscles differently. I am going to give this a try!

TFS! I really need to start walking again, but can't outside this time of year due to my asthma. We looked at a treadmill but didn't really have the room for one, and I'm sure not going back to a gym at this point. Think I'll give this a try.

I used to do Leslie Sansone videos years ago and was so happy to recently find out that she is on Youtube. I find her personality very enjoyable.
I did the One Mile Happy Walk (that I used to do on dvd) a few days ago and WHOA some of those side-to-side steps were brutal on my hips. It seems like I need to look up some stretching videos too.

I will watch this! I went from no exercise at all, to walking 2-3 miles a day in late March, April, early May. But I got on the scale and didn't lose a pound (and I walk fast)! So I gave up. I will have to check out her channel and see if she has any advice.

I will have to check out her channel and see if she has any advice. She doesn’t really give advice, she just invites you to walk with her. She may have a 4 or 5 mile walk in the past I’ve done the one, two and three milers.

A number of years ago before retirement, I had a job that entailed mostly travel (car). I stayed in so many hotels. I ate in so many nice restaurants. At first, I loved it as I grew up poor and hotels and nice restaurants were almost unheard of. However, as the years went by I started getting very tired of it indeed--especially as the pounds packed on from so much fatty food and so little exercise. After retirement, I lost a little due to getting more movement in my arms and legs. However--not enough.
So I bought a Garmin watch and started walking. I have now walked 3 years (plus a couple months) without missing a single--NOT ONE--day without getting at least 10,000 steps. I almost always get 16,000 which equates to between 6-7 miles. I have lost over 50 pounds and my blood work is fabulous compared to what it used to be. Some days are really hard (like today when it's pouring outside), but I do it anyway. I am a HUGE fan of the benefits of walking!

It’s a guy leading the same program for guys. youtu.be/6C92d9e-11oThe idea with these is the one mile walk is for beginners and then you’ll advance (or if you have time) to 2 miles. And they also have at least a 3 mile walk.

jenjie, I used to sell her videos, dvds and equipment when I worked at Jenny Craig. We worked hand in hand with her. Excellent!!! I *still * say that I never joined a gym when I had my big transformation and went from a size 20 to a 2, thru Jenny Craig. I worked out at home, using my treadmill daily and did the televised Body Electric shows 5 days/week (only 15-30 min). She had many variations to compensate for injury and disability. I had amazing muscle tone and was in the best shape of my life. Point is, most safe workouts will suffice if they take different groups into account. Anyone could get a rock hard body just at home, with a healthy diet and workout.

I haven't been able to walk outside for exercise in over a month and I miss it terribly! Pollen count is very high and it's been really windy too. jenjie - thanks for the reminder. I used to have some VHS tapes of Leslie's.

yes - I've been using her DVDs for years (on and off - I would do better if it were more often, lol) and kids sometimes join in. I have 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 mile versions and it's great to mix it up and to have an option on a rainy day or one when it's way too hot to be outside.

jenjie I found that when I squeeze my butt together while doing most of these exercises,it protects my back to some extent. I can't explain the bathtub. Sorry for your pain.

Truly I don’t know why I was able to do so much walking and exploring when I visited FL. The aches and pains I usually have were alleviated and I have no idea why!

I’d like to say modern tubs mostly all suck in shape. The house I grew up in had a lovely one with the back at just the right angle but today’s tubs mostly suck in shape & angle. It’s a wonder everyone‘s spine isn’t kinked after a bath.

It’s a wonder everyone‘s spine isn’t kinked after a bath. Maybe that’s it. The kicker is, I don’t usually take a bath but I was trying to be intentional to relax and well, that’s what they say you should do. I didn’t expect to be in pain when I got out.

Jenny Ford has similar workouts on YouTube. I do a lot of her marching and step classes at home.

I will have to check out her channel and see if she has any advice. Please keep walking. It is about way more than losing weight. Your bone density, cholesterol levels, blood glucose, blood pressure and cardiovascular health are improved so much with just a simple daily walk. Weight loss really comes down to calories in being less than calories out. A 2-3 mile walk burns anywhere from 120-300 calories depending on your size. If you are at the low end of the calories burned then it would take almost a month to burn off one pound as long as everything your were eating stayed the same.

I am a HUGE fan of the benefits of walking! This is exactly how I lost weight when I went back to work four years ago. My job involves being on my feet my entire shift (except for breaks) and I was easily getting 15,000-20,000 steps in an 8-10 hour shift. I lost 50 lbs. in the first 6 months and another 20 lbs. in the year following that. I’m a huge fan of walking . I’m not working right now but have two treadmills at home (a big one on our garage and a smaller flat one under a standing desk in my room), so I’ve been getting at least 10,000 steps a day. I really have to watch what I eat too because it’s still so easy to eat more than I burn now that I’m home all the time.
