OMG they are all so far away here as it is!!! Damn I know!! There will only be one location left that's not down the shore, and Midland Park always got the least amount of goods! I can't believe they kept that one but not Paramus, East Hanover or Watchung. like I said the kept the smallest most cramped & disorganized stores in our area. They NEED an online shopping pick up in store option. I’ll get most successful stores will end up with some form if that. Container store already had it so they were up & running quickly. Trust me TM I can browse and impulse buy online possibly even better than in person. Definitely better than in person in a cramped disorganized store. I mean, I have the last 2 months. Nothing like retail therapy when your amped up & have insomnia, get with the program. I would definitely be up for driving a bit out of my way if I already had purchased the item I want & just have to pick it up

They get buyouts ( so they can sell for less money) so the inventory changes every truck. They never know what they are going to get. The container store has the same items month after month and sometime year after year.

How do other companies do buy outs online?
The world is changing, covid or no covid, they should get with the program. It’s simply a matter of keeping proper inventory Of what cones in the door vs what goes out the door.

It’s simply a matter of keeping proper inventory Of what cones in the door vs what goes out the door. The manager at one of my stores explained it to me a while back. Trying to remember exactly what was said. It has to do with what they can find in different places and how one week one store will get one of something because the sales for that store are much lower than in other areas. When they open the boxes for the things they receive they might get 1 or they might get a dozen scrap supplies also vary a lot store to store. She said the number of different items they get each week is staggering and keeping an online inventory would be a disaster and they also don't have anywhere to store it all and people move things in the store all of the time. In order to keep their costs down, they buy it cheap, deliver it to the stores and push it out the door. They no longer do the item locator anymore because the computer system couldn't keep up with their sales. Their push is to get items in hands. If they had to keep a warehouse with items the costs would rise (I cannot imagine Container Store prices would work for TM). It made sense. If you had to pay people to keep an inventory for each store, they would have to raise what they charge.

Yes, TM was always sort of a Thrift store for me, you never know what you will find, they always have different things. I think they also do not order specific items from American Crafts, they probably just pay a certain price and get what they get from the retailers, leftovers, maybe even scrapbook store returns, who knows. I cannot imagine them keeping an inventory current unless each specific store has their own website, even then it’s very questionable. Their business model is different. Where I live, we have these treasure hunt stores, and they are super popular. Company buys this returned, leftover inventory from target and amazon and resell for $5 an item, you can get a TV for $5 or get a squishy for $5. You never know what their inventory will be, they are so popular and their inventory sells out in a week so they bring more every week. TM probably has items that by the time they log them in into the website, it will be sold out. Not worth it!

Also, I think that we will see a lot of clothing items from this past spring at the discount shops like Marshall’s and TJ Maxx. Clothing did not sell well this spring and the retailers probably won’t recycle it next year as fashion and trends change. I think that some other items from retail stagnation will end up at these discount retailers. I think a lot of scrapbook collections were shown at Creativation and sold before March before the lockdowns started but I hope that our favorite scrapbooking companies survive. It will be interesting to see if we will have the usual variety and number of collections this fall/winter season and if we will see any differences in the next Creativation.

Tuesday Morning is my favorite store. So sad they are going to close stores. My local store is not on the initial list. Hope it is not on the next list of stores closing either.

We have six within 30 minutes and only one of them seems to be closing. And it's not a surprise that it's closing as it's fairly small and I rarely see anyone else in the store when I shop there. So glad we'll still have several to pick from.

I would imagine they have a large amount of loss/theft too, which would complicate keeping up an accurate inventory.
