The Covid-19 pandemic has been rough (okay, let's be honest - it sucks!) and some of the other things going on the U.S. and the world right now are heart-breaking, tough to hear about and let's be honest again - they suck! I've been feeling down this week so I decided to try to think of some positive uplifting things in my life that happened recently. So, ala John Krasinski (my maiden name is Krusinski so maybe we're related somehow!) below is my list of Some Good News. Feel free to add yours and maybe we can all find a little something to help brighten our days. - Last week my 23 yo DD went grocery shopping. She's a recent college graduate just starting out. When she got to the checkout, her debit card would not work. She had plenty of money in her account, but the chip had malfunctioned. She tried her credit card, but it has a low limit and the payment she just made hadn't posted yet. After 30 minutes of calling me (I live 30 minutes away) and her sister (15 minutes away) to see if we could help, plus going to the ATM at the bank to see if maybe it was the store's system causing the chip malfunction, she still wasn't able to pay for her groceries and was nearly in tears at the store, partially from embarrassment and partially from frustration. I was about to leave to drive down to pay for her groceries when she called me back. The clerk at the grocery store paid for my DD's groceries out of her own pocket - almost $100 worth! DD was in tears on the phone because she was overwhelmed with the thought that someone could be so kind to a stranger! DD went to the bank the next day and had a new card ordered and took out cash to get her by until the card came, plus cash to repay the store clerk. She also bought the clerk a gift card as an extra thank you. She emailed the store manager to tell him/her of the great customer service given by the clerk. She didn't mention specifically what the clerk had done, just in case there was a policy against paying for a customer's groceries, but she wanted to be sure the store manager knew what a great employee he/she had.
- I work at a food manufacturing company (those of you keeping a spreadsheet may know this, but I don't post all that often so I'm mentioning it again) in quality and food safety. It's a reasonably demanding job, but Covid-19-related things have added about 75% more to my workload. I'm a get-it-done kind of person and not a complainer so many of my fellow members of the management team probably have no idea of the extra workload I have right now. Aside from the bonus pay all employees are getting for being essential workers during this time, our plant has a small discretionary fund to reward people who are going above and beyond right now. This week I found out from the plant manager that I received an extra bonus because he recognized all of the extra time and effort I've been putting into my job right now. It's not a whole lot of money, but it's nice to be recognized!
- Our entire corporation has contracted to have two nurses on site 24/7 to do wellness assessments of everyone when they arrive at a company facility. We have to answer wellness questions related and have our temperatures taken before we can enter the building. It's a small inconvenience to have to arrive at work a few minutes early but in the whole scheme of things it's not a big deal. Today we got the following email from our administrative assistant: April, who coordinates the nurses, called to say thank you to all of us for being so kind. They want everyone at MY COMPANY'S NAME to know that all the employees have made working here a pleasant experience. They say it is not always the case (with other companies). Thanks for going out of your way to show kindness to the nurses. That short message really brightened my day for a few reasons. One, it was nice of our admin to pass it along. Two, it's nice that the nursing coordinator took time out of her day to call with that message. Three, it's nice that the nurses mentioned it to their coordinator. And four, it's nice that I work with a great group of employees who manage to be pleasant even with all that's going on in the world right now.

A couple of weeks ago my dad's cancer dr. thought that his treatment of last resort wasn't working. His bloodwork was horrible, but he wanted to do one more round of this targeted infusion. He went on Wed for what we thought was his last infusion with hope that the Dr had something up his sleeve. My dad's bloodwork was spot on and another test showed that the infusions are actually working. So they will continue on as planned.
I will be glad when I'm allowed to get out to Indiana to see him, but for now this good news is comforting.
My little sister is a business owner in Indianapolis. She has clinics for people on disabilty, she has mobile ultrasounds that go out to nursing homes so they don't have to transport patients to hospital for routine scans. She also provides this service to prisons. And has a team of doctors that make house calls all over the state. She is trying to get xray stations set up in drug stores to offer one low price xray service. And many of these services are happening in Michigan and Illinois as well.
Yesterday she graduated with her bachelor's degree from an online/in class program thru Harvard! During their televised broadcast of the graduation, which included the traditional students, they had 20 or so students speak. Some 1600 students submitted videos, my sister was one of the 20 selected. She rocks! Way to go Lulu!

Great news scraphappy0501! I am happy it is Friday ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) . I got most of my big work done this week so nothing hanging over my head over the weekend. That makes me very happy! My DD23 in Switzerland (who lost her job and I am paying her rent) told me that she made enough playing the stock market to pay her rent for the rest of the summer. I gave her some money (less than 3 months rent!) and told her if she even made $100, it would make me happy. She has been studying the stock market since last summer and had already done very well with a little bit of money, so I was beyond thrilled and proud of her. Also, she got two business certificates while she has been laid off. She starts her MBA next fall (2021).

What a lovely thread with so much happy news.
I don't really have any specific accomplishments of note to report, but in general I'm just quite content right now. It's such a good place to be.

Your company's name does a lot of good for the community too! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg) I've only heard good things from people who work there.
My son had a drive-thru 5th grade graduation this week. He starts in a 6th-7th grade school next. year. They made him a poster and posed by my van while he sat in his car seat, and gave him a crap ton of little gifts. One aide gave him a t-shirt that says I virtually graduated 5th grade in 2020 because "he has the funniest t-shirts!". He's not a social person and he kept trying to close the van door on them and they all thought it was hilarious. I'm surprised I kept it together. He's known some of these women since Preschool.
Also his bus aide asked if she could see him whenever its okay with me. I still send her pictures now and then.
ETA: I don't know why the quote feature went wonky, so I put asterisks between my post and your post.

My 15yo was in the middle of drivers ed when the shutdowns started. The company tried a couple of different times to reschedule, but with each reschedule came another extension of closures. They finally decided to finish the classes online and do the driving with masks. So he finally got to finish the course and passed! And despite the school closures I was able to get his school permit form signed by the principal. Then it looked like it might be all for nothing (at least for a couple of months) because it was looking like the summer baseball season might not happen. Then the governor said summer sports could play and the district agreed to let the teams play (our district cancelled spring sports before the state shut down spring sports). So the baseball and softball teams essentially get to be the guinea pigs on how to have school sports (or any school activities) with the virus. It's going to suck having to wear a mask during hot & humid summer games outside, but DS gets to play baseball and get out of the house! It also sucks because now we need to get him a car so he can get to school for practices and games because I'm still working several days a week. But at this point I'm happy about it all...this is the first time I've ever been happy that Iowa high schools play baseball and softball in the summer...
Other great news is that my 12yo gained 8lbs since his February weight check! He takes ADD meds that make him not want to eat and he's already a picky eater. But being home for most of that time was nice because he could eat more for lunch than at school (or at least more filling options). He didn't gain anything between his August physical and his February weight check so the pediatrician was a little concerned again.

What a nice thing that cashier did for your DD!
My DD got her college degree last week- received her diploma in the mail with no date yet for the ceremony, but she was so excited to receive it and also to learn she earned high honors in her department.
A close coworker thought he had Covid but just tested negative.
I’ve been seeing hand sanitizer and TP in the grocery stores.

Yesterday our elementary school had a parade to celebrate the graduating 5th graders. My oldest daughter is/was a 5th grader. We all showed up, parked our cars 6 feet apart, and decorated the tailgates for each kid. The rest of the school had assigned times they could drive by to wave and congratulate the 5th graders, as well as drive by the teachers who were lined up at the front of the school. 🤩. It was so much fun!!!! The fire department and the police led the parade, and we all had all the feels. A very large % of the school turned up to drive through the parade, and most had their cars decorated too. The kindergarten graduates that came were dressed in their caps and gowns, and if they had a sunroof in their car they were poked out of it. The 5th graders were so happy!!! This was the first time most of them have seen each other since March. And they all did AMAZING at keeping socially distant!! 😄

The news is so awful right now I thought I should bump this thread back up. Spread some good news.
My good news is the nursing home my mom lives in has arranged for family visits. No touching. She has to wear a mask and so do we. Maximum 2 visitors. Outside and supervised. The nursing home she lives in has been working so hard to keep the virus at bay and the residents happy since this started.
Starting next weekend I get to spend 30 minutes every two weeks with my 83 year old mom. I know that does not sound like a lot but it will be just perfect for our family. My mom has advanced vascular dementia. She is not really aware of the passing of time and what is happening. It is very hard to visit with her for very long because she cannot hold a conversation.
I have not seen her for almost 3 months. I am really looking forward to a short visit with her.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their Good News. Each and every post has brought a smile to my face and that has become part of my Good News - that there are still good things happening in the world and I'm able to read about those things. I hope to be able to share more Good News and I hope others will too!

I work for a company that provides support services for the developmentally disabled so they can live in their own homes.(think cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, severe autism and so on). This often includes up close personal care. The vast majority of our staff has shown up for work. Every. Single. Day. These are not highly compensated people. But they show up every day to support some of the most vulnerable folks in our society. Very proud of our company and it's employees!

This is my daughter’s first summer as a 16 year old. I expected she’s have her license, a job, her independence. I didn’t think she would join us on trips to our family cottage or cabin. Due to Covid, she doesn’t have her license or a job. She’s on vacation with us. I’m savoring and soaking up every minute of this added time with her.
My family has started to bake and have gotten pretty darn good. My 13 year old son is a pretzel making master.
A week and a half ago I was let go from my job due to Covid. While financially thinks might be a bit tough I’m very excited for a summer home with my kids. I’ve missed that since I went back to work 4 years ago. We might not get to go to the pool or amusement park, but we will make the most of it.
All of my family have learned new things due to the safer at home orders... baking, wood carving, painting, skating, etc.
The amount of time we’ve spent together watching movies and playing board games has been amazing.
Lots of good in all of this.

I am not sure if this has been shared on here before but this guy's youtube channel and the reason for doing it are just great. So very heartwarming. A YouTube page called, “Dad, How do I?,” was started by a man named Rob Kenney from Washington whose father left him when he was a teenager. "As a teenage boy, he did not know a lot of ropes of life and was still growing up. When he did, he wanted to make sure that no other child goes through the same things he did. This led to the beginning of the above-mentioned channel." On this channel, he gives basic advice. These range from how to tie a tie to how to change a tire or how to unclog a sink.
