Good riddance.
NC Governor Cooper is not backing down on his requirement for the RNC to detail a scaled back Republican convention in August in Charlotte. Trump wants the full convention with 19,000 delegates plus press and all the staff in the convention center at one time. Cooper says it is too dangerous to the citizens of NC. I agree.
I don't think either party should hold an in person convention. Conventions are largely a waste of time in regular election years. There is no surprise who will be the nominees this time. Unless something drastic happens, we know that we will have Trump/Pence and Biden/TBD. The VP nominee will doubtless be announced before the DNC convention anyway.
I think they should televise speeches by their speakers before small audiences and have the delegates vote from home.
I realize this costs Charlotte money but there are plenty of things that can return to bring in revenue if we the virus situation improves. Currently our cases and hospitalizations are on the rise. We just learned that all new cases in our county are community spread. People here are getting more lax about social distancing and hardly anyone is wearing a mask now. The protests will likely spur more outbreaks with people gathering for long periods of time.
Whatever city hosts the RNC will no doubt have more protests.
What do you think? Should the parties have their conventions as is? A scaled back version? or cancelled altogether?

Raleigh peas did anyone catch the clip of the flippant protestor speaking to the live reporter. It’s a good laugh. I can’t post videos from my phone so if anyone finds its I’d love it if you shared.

I think with the technology we have today there is no need to put people at physical risk with an in person convention for either party.

Why doesn't he hold it on a cruise ship? Plenty of room, and they can have a grand old time while supporting the crucial American cruise ship industry.

There was no way they were going to do it in person - 8000 people together in Atlanta. It’ll be virtual. If the largest labor union in the uS can figure it out, so can they.

I would be surprised if he held it at Mar a Lago and billed the taxpayers $6 billion to rent the space.

I’m sure lots of people will be mad about this, but I can’t think it’s a good idea to get all those people together in a relatively small space over an extended period of time. Just sounds like a disaster in the making.
I wonder if they’ll be able to find a big enough space that’s actually willing to have them. Maybe in Texas?

He was threatening it the other day (cant recall where I heard it...but it was a news clip). They were throwing out Dallas as the top pick. And no. No one needs to meet in person.

I think if they postponed the Olympics, any party holding an in person convention of that size is completely irresponsible and ridiculous at this point.

There is no need for an in-person convention for either party this election cycle. I hope that the Democrats switch to a mostly or all-virtual one.

If millions of public school kids and their teachers could figure out how to move their entire education onto the Internet with virtually no warning and managed to make it work for over two months, I’m pretty sure these geniuses can figure something out.

They don’t need to do this in person. Lots of technology available, and we’ve all had to learn how to use it in the past few months. Plus, it can be televised. The theatricality isn’t needed at this time. There’s too much potential for harm.
If they do move it, I’m betting on either Texas or Florida to host it.

The Georgia Governor has already reached out and offered space and said Georgia would be happy to host it. The Atlanta Mayor disagreed heavily.

As I was falling asleep last night I had the news on & heard it was possibly being moved to Texas.
It’s bad enough that we have Jerry Jones but do we also have to host Trump & his group?

Please not Texas. Bad enough that Houston has to host the Texas state GOP convention (Dems wisely had theirs online this past week). I’m sure with Texas showing signs of being a battleground state, that Trump is eager to boost his support here. But why can’t they go to a solidly red state like South Dakota or something? Or at least out in the boonies if it has to be here. Texas’ blue cities don’t want him.
